Hey guys! I just wanted to give up a heads up. There's an auction on Ebay for a Brazil My Little Pony in the vintage section- it was confirmed to be fakie that was released only last year. The seller refuses to disclose that fact- even though many of us have messaged him.

We just don't want anyone roped into thinking they're buying something exciting and regretting it!

Wow, that's pretty serious. Good thing I'm sticking to cheap-ish ponies for now.

I've noticed lately that there have been a lot of auctions for vintage G1 items and the starting bid/buy it now price is absolutely through the roof! Yesterday I saw an auction for "Brazilian Bowtie" for $1,299! Isn't this outrageous? I saw another auction for ponies in box starting at around $1,000 and the box looks horrible. Are these people for real? Would anyone ever pay that much?

Brazil Bowtie is extremely hard to find, especially in nice shape, and she is also extremely popular. ;)

Not $1300 popular, but she fetches a couple hundred regularly.

A couple hundred I could definitely justify for a rare pony, hey maybe even a few hundred (on a really nice payday!) :) But the $1300 just blew me away

Around 6-8 years ago Brazil Bowtie WAS a $1,000+ pony. The "pony market" crashed along with the US economy & she's been in the $300-400 range for the last 5-ish years. If its an older collector selling off their ponies, they may very well not be up to date on her current value.

I wouldn't say the pony market has crashed. As someone who's been collecting since 1997, back when ebay was auction web, and the TP was black and Pink, I've seen cycles. feel like I should be in a rocking chair typing this

New pony no one has seen before comes on the market. Price is astronomical. Most of the same pony enter the market, price drops. Time goes one, pony is still rare, but everyone who MUST have her, has her, price drops. Happens all the time. First time baby Cherry Jubilee hit ebay, $300.00. Her price has some down a lot!!

As for the buyers who list their items for $1000+, their items, they can do as they wish for them. Just as we can bid as we wish. the only downside is that other seller think their ponies are worth that price because that's what that one seller has his/hers listed for on ebay. Slightly annoying.

Prices

Yes, I've noticed a lot of G1 ponies on ebay lately with ridiculous starting bids or buy it now. I understand you wanting to get what you paid for when you bought that pony 10 years ago, but the problem is that pony is no longer as rare as it was then and not many people are going to pay that price now.

There is someone now selling Ponies in package some not in package for 300 and more with 40 for shipping from Canada. They have a sob story about needing money.

Thank you for posting this. :)

YES. I now take my OH's smart phone so I can show people sold completed listings when I come across people running booths that think dirty common ponies are worth $20 or more per piece because they saw an applejack listed for $200 on ebay. :seestars:

That said, a few times I've sold "overpriced" things. Stuff I want to sell I price to move, stuff I will happily keep in my collection otherwise I price higher. Things like duplicates of G1's I have in really beautiful, gorgeous condition. thought hey, it's a double for me, odds are nobody is willing to pay what I'd like so I'll most likely be keeping her. :) Sometimes, someone else loves that pony as much as I do, usually someone who's been after an upgrade.

LOL! I did that once, with a duplicate pony I wasn't quite sure I wanted sell. Priced her at what I thought was probably a bit too high, figuring I'd get to keep her, or someone who REALLY REALLY wanted her and would love her as much as I do/did would get her, without really breaking the bank. About two seconds after I placed her on the table, on day two of the Fair last July (because on day one I was still not ready, haha)someone gasped and essentially threw her wallet at me even as I was all apologetic about the price. LOL. Just meant to be hers, I guess!

it's kind of fascinating, though, to seethe price fluctuations, the whole supply and demand thing, being played out with ponies. Someone already mentioned it--I agree with the theory that everyone who "has to have it!!" gets them when they first appear, then the demand goes down as well as the price (eventually). I wonder if there will be another wave of collectors who go from young fans happy to get their hands on a pony--any pony!!--with their limited funds, to 20-somethings with disposable income who will suddenly "discover" the foreign variants and start the craze over again...

That is exactly it! I feel happy and guilty at the same time, but these are straight from my collection beautiful ponies, so I am happy to see them going to good homes.

Some ponies I've gone through armies of, I must have bought/owned ten or more mediocre to very nice sweet stuffs until a found a perfect one. :) Sometimes it's easier to say you know what, even though I *could* get her for $7 eventually just as nice, or find her perfect inside a lot for $2 I'll cut to the chase and I'll pay the $30 for this perfect one. So I can totally see how your buyer could get that excited!
