i have finally made the choice to sell off most of my collection. i am saving the funds i rase from my sale to put aside for a future move..

wish i could take them all, sadly no room, so i kept only my hard to get backs and favourites.

i know we all buy ponies, sell doubles and trade. however thing later in life causes us to downsize the ponie we have...

i am in the same boat as many others... I like to hear you're stories..

have you ever had to down size. for some reason..

need funds for move
buying a house
need money to fix a car..
bills getting to high
need money for medical bills
funds for college
repairs to home

mine would be moving with limited space causing me to downsize and some help to raise fund for the move. chose too keep the most expensive to buy, favourites and a my childhood ponies.

like to hear youre story too, please share.

I'm in the process of downsizing my collection AGAIN right now. I moved cross-country (UP-country, I suppose) and I sold over half of my collection to help pay for that move. I downsized again to switch apartments once I was up here, and now I'm hacking it down a little bit more, to move again since I recently got married and am trying to get moved into an apartment to share with my husband...if immigration ever lets him come live with me. We're also having a belated wedding ceremony/reception in October that we're paying for ourselves, so I've sold a lot of stuff from a lot of collections to pay for flowers and a dress and all the other shenanigans that go into having a wedding. LOL

i downsize and upsize all the time, but mostly due to space... but with the move i'm making, i'm going to do whatever I can to keep who I can, and only sell those that i'm not attached to... or part of a specific collection... but I don't have that many to begin with, if I had a collection over 100 I'd probably downsize a lot more often.

I had 900 ponies and went down to about 30. It was because of breaking up with the ex and needing bill money.
It was awful. I regreat that more than anything else in my whole life. I miss my pony room and my old collection very baddly. I am buying the ponies again slowly....but they just aren't the same. Stupid I know....but the leaper I found for 10 cents in the thrift store ...gone. Sure I got one at the fair this year, and he is great, but he is not my amazing find leaper anymore.
It's stupid to be so emotional about just toys...and most look the same as any other, but my emotions just can't seem to listen to the logic in me.
I also miss how involved my Mother was before. She made every holiday a pony fiesta for me. Got me nothing but ponies for Christmas and my Birthday and she was very good at it. She got me great stuff. Now she says she will not buy them for me anymore since I just sold everything and now want to start again. That really hurts.
Well anyway...here I am building it up again....and while I am far from 900...I will hopefully get there!

I did when I got married. I wasn't done collecting, so when we finally had space/money I started up again, only my tastes had changed and now I mainly collect merch and nirvanas. And whatever else catches my fancy at the time. I'm all about pony wear lately.

And Milky Way stuff, obviously. ;)

I've been unemployed since March, so Ebay has been my life raft.
I've had to sell a lot of my toy collection..Including Ponies I NEVER thought
I would sell ( my dutch shell pony being one of them)
It's been very hard, but I still have my favorites, and still have a
Nice. Little collection. I try not to think about the ones I had to sell :-/

Oooh... -wince- I wouldn't be able to bear getting rid of anything in my collection!! In my younger years my mom sold some of my stuff but only a playset and a magnet thingy. Gosh, I can feel your pain. IT BURNS!!!!!:-(

I sold off a huge chunk of my argentina ponies a few years ago. I kinda regret it now as some I will probably never get again :(

I have a closet full of G3's that I want to get rid of, I dont have the room for them all and I plan on PERMENTLY leaving alaska soon.

I'm selling my entire collections of G1 G2 and G3 for college fund and it hurts to see those G1s go... Some of them I sorta wish I hadnt sold. (like my cancer riddled Celebration that I remember picking up for 25 cents same with Tickle... :( ) for some reason, for me its really strange ponies that I became attached to. I'll probably just end up keeping the Colombian one and my galaxy of course... There are also other ponies that I got for presents (like the lil sisters) that I cant imagine parting with. I cant imagine when the boxes will be empty...

I had to downsize for a few reasons: Lack of room for a pony room anymore, issues at home made it to where I can barely stand to see them, my kitty Lazarus getting sick on me, and my obsession of the Monster High line. It is VERY hard to part with some of them but I know they are going to people who can love them more. I rather not keep them in storage in fear of them never getting seen ever again. I think at one point I had over 300 ponies in the house and now I have 50 at the very most. @_@

For me its not so much a pony collection as a collection in general. I tend to horde. So for me getting rid of anything perfectly useable even if I'm never going to use it myself is difficult. Papers, containers etc. If I get too crazy with ponies i Might start to horde ponies!! o_O

I am redecorating my bedroom, and making shelves for my ponies. They are taking up too much room, I am downsizing quite a bit. I'll probably just put the unwanted ponies in freebies, honestly. So be on the watch for some G1s and G3s soon!

I have allways collected G1 ponies.... and then there came G2 ponies and I bought a lot of them.... I think at the top I had about 70 of them.... then came the G3 ponies and I started to collect them as well.... but since I was living in a small appartment I had to downsize the collection.... and sadly the G2 ponies draw the short one.... they went to a nice home with a member on this site.... and after a while my interest for the G3 faded.... I guess it was when they started to release 200 ponies a month.... lol
anyway, now they are up on my trade list..... so the ones I collect now is G1 and G4(cause they are so small and take no space, thank god)..... And NOW I live in a house.... :icon_smile_lachuh:

I had 400+ ponies that I had to sell before moving. Each one of them gone. i had some rarer ones, but i just had no room where i was going and keeping them in a box was a big no no for me. i didn't try to make profit off of them as much as i tried to sell them to people who wanted them. that didn't go over so well, however, as i sold them on ebay for cheap and a scalper bought them up and resold IMMEDIATELY before i even shipped them to her for profit. that was hte most upsetting thing.. but i guess that's what people do and i was selling it cheap and they can technically do what they wish afterwards.

i only kept a few ponies, very very few. but not as much as i would have liked.

it's a good thing though. the experience has made me stop my obsessive hoarding of ponies and now i'm only going to buy rarer ones in perfect condition or nothing. have something to really display, not just any old pony.
