Wow, is it just me? I know I've been out of the swing of things for a while, but I was just looking at G1 lots on eBay, and I was shocked at some of the prices they were bringing! o_O The FIM craze has brought on a huge onslaught of new collectors?

If I ever wanted to build my G1 collection back up again, I'm afraid I'd be broke! :cry2:

I think it has more to do with sellers thinking they can get those prices - especially the sellers with shops. I had a **** of a time trying to find common ponies for some swaps recently due to ebay prices.

I find ebay is usually way over priced and I see a lot of the same ponies from the same sellers going again and again because they are not selling but the sellers don't seem to realize that their price is too high. I think the popularity brought from the g3 and g4s has shone a new spotlight on the collectors and so now every one who has a box full of old ponies seems to think that because they are "vintage" and "collectible" that they are worth far more. I have seen people trying to charge 15-20$ for really common ponies like Cotton Candy and Baby Moondancer, it gets pretty crazy. I find that the forums are much more reasonable for prices because most people are actual collectors and are a bit more knowledgeable about rarity/condition etc.

Yeah, i would agree. your best bet for good prices is via here or the Arena. Although there are alot of ebay sellers who are also forum members as well.

in my experiance with all the g1 i have sold in the last few months prices on the common ones have gone down slightly, and it seems the harder to find ones are going down slightly also,
they still sell for a good price and are easy to sell but they don't bring as much as they did.
people ASK really really high prices for them on ebay but they rarely bring that

I haven't noticed them going up really. I have noticed more people are pricing lots super high and then they don't sell tho. There's a few on craigslist near me too, like they have maybe 5 common baits and then 1 common but in great condition and they're asking like $100....

I only buy when I can get them super cheap. I prefer to find my ponies at thrift stores and garage sales. My last set of ponies I got like 10 for $2 or something crazy like that! I have bought a few at full blown "retail" on eBay or on here but I don't do it that often. I think the only ones I paid their full value is Cremesicle the giraffe and then I bought a couple banks. Then I really want Toppy so I'm about to pay for that one on ebay too.

Something similar to this happened in 2011-thereabouts - when the Hub was showing "Jem and the Holograms". Ebay prices on vintage Jem stuff went crazy.

With eBay, I like to remember the line that Rick uses on Pawn Stars -"those prices? Is that what they're *asking*? Or is that what they're *getting*?"

Years ago I got tired of crazy prices on '80s GI Joes - until I made forum friends and some great deals buying and trading. :)

Ebay can be out of hand quite a bit of the time, especially with the G1's. Yes, it's vintage, but a manky, common Cotton Candy should NOT be priced at $20+!!!!

Don't let this discourage you from ebay though, there can be some great deals on there you just really have to watch and be careful not to get gouged. I always search the forums on here for price checks before I buy anything off of ebay and have gotten some good deals. Unfortunately they are just few and far between on there. :smilepony:

exacly what i have been seeing, people have been asking crazy high prices. the SELLING prices are trending down for the most part, except for g4

You can always search by what the pony has sold for in the past on ebay. I've contacted many sellers about dropping their prices before. Sometimes they're more than happy to others they feel their pony is worth a million bucks.

Maybe someone on your forum can help me with some poor dead Joes and Dreadnoks I have in a bag. The bands broke and I am having one heck of a time finding a good replacement to restring them!

Poor Ripper. He has to drag himself to the refrigerator by his elbows to get a grape soda, leaving Snowjob to watch his legs.

eBay can be nuts, ESPECIALLY with G1. The prices go up and down like Minty flying a balloon lol!
