Last week Hasbro unveiled the toys it is sure will be jostling for space under Christmas tree boughs this year at a special play-lunch held at its Sydney headquarters.

Several iterations of My Little Pony (MLP) are sure to tempt girls no matter their age or interests ranging from the new fashion doll line, Equestria Girls Rainbow Rocks, classic MLP collectables – the Twilight Sparkle Rainbow Kingdom – or the new MLP POP customisable pony line.

Whether it's a Rebelle, a zombie hunter or fighter seeking to prove their dominance in marksmanship, Nerf has the item to settle the score. Key additions to the Nerf arsenal include the Mega Thunder Bow, the Agent Bow which fires whistling arrows, or the Zombie Strike blasters with an irresistible toss-rachet action.

Star Wars Command is a new tabletop battling game that features the first radio-control (RC) item produced for this licence, an Imperial Star Destroyer craft. Kids will be able to channel the new villain from the new animated Star Wars Rebels series, the Inquisitor, with the Inquisitor's light sabre which offers three ways to play.

Other items predicted to do great things at retail later this year include the new Go-Go My Walking Pup; the new customisable edition of the classic game, My Monopoly; the 50cm tall Transformers Stomp and Chomp Grimlock; and the new arts and crafts range, Doh Vinci.

The new Littlest Pet Shop items show the strength of the creative reinvigoration of this collectable series for girls with a return to the classic bobble-head form on the animals, and the colourful, modernist appeal of the shops and houses.

I especially like the look of Rainbow's wings in the topmost photo. Beautiful!

If only Hasbro would give us more variety for our Ponies. The Mane Six are nice, but I do so miss having a large variety to choose from. And while I know there are those who just love the Equestria Girls, I want more focus on Ponies, not Peoples.

And why are they so loathe to branch out and give us some Seaponies or Big Brothers? Are they really that mired in focus groups and investor profits that they don't want to invest in some new molds?

Fiddlesticks.

I'm just itching to know when they're going to release the new Equestria Girls dolls because I really wanted to get Aria Blaze for my brother, and I want to know whether it'll be a birthday or Christmas present. =D

Seconded. It was one of my major draws to MLP back when I couldn't get into it and now that I can it's merely secondary, it seems. Darn you, Core 7! You started this! And why did you boot off Minty? Why? WHY-
Ahem. Though... I'm okay with the peoples, to be honest. ^^;; Must be my soft spot for fashion dolls. And alternate universes. Plus to me it's a testament as to how the characters are strong enough that you can take them out of their original setting and give them a different appearance and they will still be recognizable. Though I do have to say, I don't mind Equestria Girls getting more development as a line as long as it doesn't overtake the main one.
Hm, now that I think about it, what Hasbro is doing with EQG is what I feel they should've done with the main line from the beginning. Seriously, compare the ratio of non-Mane 6 releases to Mane 6 releases in EQG to the main line, and tell me something isn't off.

I think the main problem is that Hasbro is innovating and branching out... With everything else besides the main line, with blind bags and EQG being the prime examples. I wouldn't be surprised if it's gotten to a point where they're not adding anything to the main line, character-wise, because when all is said and done, they don't really need to anymore. In short, the main line has become a minor subset of the franchise instead of its backbone.

Fiddlesticks.
Indeed. Xp

Ooh, that looks like Spitfire's hair on the Apple-pop!

Man I wish there were more ponies and less EQG dolls on the shelves, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen any time soon.

Princess Lio, is that a new avatar? It's so lovely. I liked the old one, but that's just beautiful. Is it from a larger pic?

I suppose I'd just like more of a clear line between what are really two different franchises. The dolls are pretty, but I'd like them to be more separate from the Ponies themselves. I hate being forced to buy an Equestria doll to get a Pony, like with the special Celestia and Twlight. I don't mind the doll line itself, I just don't want to buy something I don't need or desire.

I think you're sadly correct though. I think the brushables are going to be limited because they really have bigger moneymakers. Blind bags can be manufactured for pennies and sell well, so they're almost pure profit. the dolls are madly popular, so they're being pushed harder. We Pony fans will just have to eat the crumbs they throw us and be happy until things cycle back to a focus on the Ponies, which I sincerely hope will happen once the EG craze dies down.

That's exactly how I feel. I mean Equestria Girls are very cute but I just don't like them. I want to be able to collect ponies, not dolls. I wish they would start making a variety of ponies again. It also bothers me the only way you can buy some of the pony toys is if you buy them with the Equestria Girl doll.

I am absolutely in love with Rainbow Dash! Her wings are stunning <3

If you'll all excuse me for being a Miss Grumpy Drawers, I also kinda hate their boxed sets. They'll have one or two new Ponies then more Mane Six. If they had new poses or expressions or something I wouldn't mind but they're almost just always the same ole same ole!

At least with the Pony Mania set they all have a completely new look, even if they appear to be heading for a burlesque show. I'm still hip. I can get down with that!

Woah do the brushables have newer new head sculpts? The muzzles on RD and Fluttershy look really square...

I've been peeking a look at the G4 MLP toys whenever I'm at a store that carries any, and the only ones I've ever felt tempted to buy are the beanie babies (but they were inexcusably expensive for their size, so I didn't). Everything is so tiny and monotonous and expensive, so many toys don't look like the characters they're supposed to be, and the packaging is the same darned hues of pink and purple again and again. I'm going to go grab my crane and wax nostalgic about the days when ponies were big and squishy and full of wacky diversity and clearly delineated sets with minimal duplication, and their packages were covered in beautifully rendered illustrations and a plethora of colors.

Preach it, PurplePowder!

I'm so excited about that single release the equestria girls Sunset Shimmer! I've been wanting her for a while, but not with Twilight. :p

Hope the mods will forgive me for the slight off-topic here...

Yep! My old avatar looked very badly compressed in the new layout, so I decided a switch was in order. I still wanted to use the same character, so I dug this one up. It's actually kind of hard to find good pictures of this guy... That's Anubimon, a Digimon, in case anyone's curious. The world at large seems to have forgotten about him. Actually scratch that, he was never relevant to begin with, to tell the truth. :p At least he shows up in card games, which is where this scan is from. I just LOVE his design. And the Ancient Egyptian inspiration, but that goes without saying. :D Thank you so much for the compliment! :)

We now return to our scheduled programming. :lolpony:

A little thread drift never hurt nobody. I think. :p Thanks for the info. Just love the design!

And on topic, my Wal Mart has the new Fashion Style Celestia and Luna. I had no intention of getting them because of money, money but my son bought them for me as a surprise! I might not have to murder him after all.

Agree, 100%. G4 is making G3 look like it had a lot of variety, which is saying something. I do miss the G1 days with so many characters/designs/molds/colours/accessories/variety! I do love the G4s, but would it kill Hasbro to give us a brushable Big Mac or Doctor Whooves, or any other new character?

I also try not to hate on the dolls, but I've never been a fan of dolls at all so I just have no interest in the EQG portion of the line, and I find myself feeling increasingly jealous of the attention that Hasbro seems to be putting on them - how's about some new brushable pony characters, Hasbro?

Hmm...they do look like they've been wearing clothespins on their noses or something.

Brushable G4's do have new head sculpts. They've been using the new one for about a year, though not all the releases had the new heads, I don't think. They all do now though.

Same here. I got into MLPS because I didn't wanna play with dolls. I understand that they want a piece of the Barbie/MH pie but dear Hasbro stick to your strengths kay?

They have the Shining Armor mold, would it be so hard to make two more--one earth and one pegasus--and give us some brushable boys? The hard part of designing the mold is over, just clip off the horn and smooth it over for some earth boy brushables, add wings and you've got a pegasus. There are boy ponies all over the place in the episodes, G1 Big Brothers only got one ep but we got a lot of brushable boys. Anything but the Mane Six again. How are they still getting sales? If I were still a kid my mother would have told me I aready HAD those ponies, a new accessory, a little different paint, or a new color in their hair isn't worth buying them again.

I agree with this. I have doubles of the mane 6, but it's either accidental or because they came packaged with other stuff. I don't go and buy every different variant of them, not even my favourites. I only purchase and collect new characters.

The problem is, the parents of today are the kids of the past, who either got everything they asked for and think they have to do the same for their kids, or who never got what they wanted and so feel they have to make up for it by giving their children everything their eyes see. There are also a lot of really bad parents in the world today; you need only look at the way some young children behave and how their parents let them, and then get furious at people who try to discipline their child when they themselves won't. Parents like these give in to their kid's demands just to stop or prevent a tantrum, and they're the same people who'll believe their precious little angel can do no wrong and take no responsibility when the child becomes a bully. It's likely toxic parenting that's driving the G4 pony market. That and obsessive bronies who only collect the mane six and need every possible variant both loose and mint...

I guess the core 7 of G3 just continued on, they really need to do something different.... I know very little about the G4 line but from what I can see, more variety is definately needed.
