Has anybody tried these strange cleaning ideas?

So I have a ton of ponies that need cleaning, and I've been putting it off for way too long. XD But I also have some ponies that have more major issues. Namely, highlighter and permanent pen marks.

I was grumbling around the house about the fact that I can't really sunfade anything because I live in western Washington state. (We get all of one to two months of sun a year where I live.) So I set out looking around the house to see if I had anything else that might work!

My two random finds that I'm very, very curious to see if they work: teeth whitening strips and Biore pore strips for pulling out pindot mold! XD

Has anybody tried using either of these while cleaning or restoring ponies? My (strange) thought process is that whitening strips contain peroxide, which would lighten marks. (Maybe using in conjunction with sunfading it would shorten the time?) The pore strips I was curious if they would work on pindot mold: if it can pull gunk out of the pores on my nose, why couldn't it pull grime out of the pores on a pony? :D

Unfortunately I don't have any baits at the moment to test on, so I just wanted to see if anybody has tried either of those things before I hunt down a bait to test them on. :D

Just adding to the thread on something I've been curious about people trying. In terms of sunfading, has anyone tried using a magnifying glass and quickening the process?

I just sunfaded some penmarks off a pony yesterday. Even though we didn't have a lot of sun (it's the middle of winter up here), it worked really well. 24 hrs in the picture window & 10% peroxide acne cream took care of it. I'm not sure how the strips would work, since it is the sun that makes it work so well. As for the pore strips, they might work if you boil the pony so the plastic is flexible & the pores open up.

Nope, haven't tried either.

I wouldn't say sunfading is hopeless- I'm above your state on Vancouver Island. I've managed to fade marks out of a few ponies successfully so far. But sadly, It takes months longer then members living in places with intense sun.

As far as I know peroxide works better with the addition of heat and UV light. I don't see why the whitestrips wouldn't work, but it may take numerous applications adding to the cost. :) Peroxide hair bleaching cream may be a more cost effective alternative for spot treating though.

Be really careful with your sunfading products. I'd try them out where you can't really see first. I did have some acne cream bleach the color right out of the pony's body. I think hair bleach and whitening strips may do the same if there are other stronger components in them.

If you could angle the magnifying class in such a way that it aimed a really strong ray directly on the spot, that would be interesting to try.

You wouldn't want to burn the ponies. My mom told me once that they used to catch ants on fire this way when she was a kid. :vscared:

I'd be curious about the pore strips, but you probably would have to boil them a bit first to make them soft. People noses aren't made of hard-ish vinyl plastic.

I wouldn't say your thought process is strange. The result probably depends on the whitening strips. Some contain sodium perborate, which in theory should work.
Haven't tried them myself since I don't like the price of the teeth whitening kits. If I could get my hands on a good soap with borax in it I'd try that, but it seems to have fallen out of popularity.

Ugh to sun fading in the PNW!!! ( I'm in Willamette Valley OR) I haven't tried either of your ideas, but I love where you are coming from. Aren't the whitening strips a little pricey? I don't have any pony with pindot, but I think warming the pony up first might help. If I can find the supplies, I will give the whitening strips a go. I wonder if a UV light might help to speed up the fading process.... I'd rather try that than the magnigying glass...trying to get that aimed at the right spot, and then getting it to stay there, which seems like a challenge. Besides, the sun changes angles throughout the day.

I also have a strange cleaning idea that I was wondering about. I work in a window and glass shop and we recommend armor all on the vinyl windows. I wondered if anyone had tried it on vinyl ponies?
