So I finally got around to buying both belts mentioned in a previous post from a nearby-ish Journeys and Journeys Kidz and they're terrific! I got lots of compliments while wearing them, some of which might have even been genuine. These pics were taken with someone's iPod touch (don't ask me which gen, I have no idea), so I apologize for the quality.

To start with, they're both made in the USA under license from Hasbro with Buckle-Down buckles & Red Monkey Designs strap, distributed by BeltsDirect.com exclusively to Genesco, who owns the Journeys group. They use thick, tightly woven, & rather heavy nylon webbing with steel buckles and endcap-things. I'm not sure if it's stainless steel, but it doesn't leave a metallic smell on my acidic hands which leads me to believe they are in fact stainless. The G4 MLP logo looks to be a curved plastic plate epoxied into a recess in the steel buckle. The plastic is good enough quality that it might actually be glass, I can't be certain without destructive testing. I must say I'm quite impressed with the material overall. Even if they weren't MLP, they'd still be my favorite belts, hands down.

The kids belt is 38.25 inches long including buckle with a 1.25 inch wide strap. The adults belt is 11.25 inches longer and according to manufacturer will fit up to a size 46 waist, giving the kids belt a max size of 34 or so. As with all web belts, they are infinitely adjustable downwards and can be cut down to reduce excess belt material on smaller folk. The cut material could make for a nifty bracelet or choker with the right fittings.

The kids belt design is very similar to the adults; the differences being a busier & more colorful background and the ponies being slightly "zoomed in" compared to the adults. The kids belt has two full repeats of the design and the adults has just under three repeats (sorry Rainbow Dash fans, you only get two close-ups of her mug either way). The borders and back of both belts are black, so in theory one could simply remove the buckle and flip it around for a more subdued look (as subdued as a pink & purple MLP logo can be, anyway). I love the designs and am very glad the ubiquitous stock pony images weren't used.

The buckles use a hinged jaw closure which I really like so far. The kids buckle has some sort of black lacquer applied to it for a dark gunmetal hue. They're both a little under 1.5 inches wide and 2.25 inches long. The lockup is tight enough to stay firmly attached throughout the day, but still pulls apart without fuss when needed. The last web belt I had kept slicing up my fingers on thin stamped steel edges with its sliding rod lock; no chance of that happening with this beefier construction!

Unfortunately, the adults belt is no longer listed on the Journeys site, but it still sells at some Journeys stores for about $18. The $15 kids' style can be found here. As I may have mentioned, I love mine! I hope anyone else who grabs one likes theirs just as much. ;)
