So my friend one these two "G1s" in an arcade in Australia. We both doubted that they were genuine 1980's G1s, and on the bottom of their flat feet, it says Hasbro 2007.

So these would be the anniversary ponies, correct? Would that be the 25th or 30th anniversary, and did different versions of those sets get sent out to different countries? And how come an arcade was able to get a whole mess of these two ponies? Were they up for sale as prizes? Or did they just buy the three packs and give them away seperately?

Are you sure Minty is a reproduction? I remember her being much brighter than that. Blue Belle is definitely a reproduction, though.

Yeah, the eyes on that Minty look too nice to be the repro. :seestars:

They both had 2007 on their feet, so they're both repros. There were multiple Blue Belles, but a lot were in poor condition (yellowing, glue globs, messed up/matted hair), and that was the only Minty they had.

Perhaps they made different versions for different countries?

Yep, Hasbro had to rescuplt for that 25th anniversary set, they no longer had the original mold. which is why they are smaller, but chubbier. That pose had been re-sculpted a few times during the G1 run too. :)

As for why they had so many, no clue. I'm assuming they got unsold extras in bulk somehow, or ones that were too "irregular" and were not included in anniversary sets.... But stuff like this happened with G1 ponies too, some we had in boxes/cards here ended up MIP included randomly in playsets in Europe/UK (baby nightcap was one).

I have those two, both from an arcade too. I wonder if they were the same arcade...
Although, it is an arcade chain, so the head office could have gotten them and distributed them throughout Australia. They're all owned by different people, so they're all run differently though.
I was super excited to see them, i should've tried to get more. xD
