I’ve purchased a bunch over the years. I typically spend anywhere from $5-40usd per cell, usually a bit more on the high end if the cell includes the production sketch/cleanup/background.
With in the last year, there were two episodes of MLP Tales that were released and I believe each cell was going for about $40usd (cell only) for any main character scene. So, with approximately 37,500 individual cells per 25min episode there’s a lot to go around.
A lot of production studios are selling off old productions and people buy the mass lots and sell off each piece so there’s literally 1,000’s of these to go around. They’re not nearly as sought after as say a Walt Disney or Waner Bros (early Looney Tunes specifically) and don’t carry the same value to the general public.
However, to us in the pony community we’re always looking for unique pieces like this for our pony rooms and collection pieces.
I personally collect animation cells from many productions as I am a huge fan of everything animation and have always been fascinated with the process of animation. So things like this always interest me as it holds a piece of not only pony history but also a lost part of animation history.
