Finding Ponies at Goodwill/Op Shops/charity shops?

Actually, I just remembered I saw a Craigslist ad for a local antique mall recently and sent Aadra to go get the ponies pictured, and when she got there they were ridiculously overpriced for damaged ponies. So my last "in the wild" find was actually really disappointing. I think I ended up having her get maybe 3 of about 10 ponies?

I found some Ponies today at a yard sale. They were beyond baity (one only had three legs) and marked $8 each (which seems a very odd amount). They were very common G3s too (Core 7s at that). The woman told me they were collectible, and very rare and I just smiled and went on my way. Poor baity Ponies will have to be rescued by someone with deeper pockets than I.

On the bright side though, I scored over 40 hardback and paperback sci fi books, many of them from the early 70s. For a quarter a book! Sweet victory!

I've had luck at the Savers closest to where I work (the other is on the opposite side of town). I find G3s there with some regularity and G1s very occasionally. G4s almost never. Athough the G4 FS Applejack I sold a few months ago came from there. I go twice a week and that seems to help my chances a lot. I almost never go to Goodwill.

At goodwill, I mainly find stuffed ponies. Every once and a while I see playsets (only ponyville ones so far), and once I found a G3 Amberlocks stuck in a bag with a bunch of random toys. :)

Yesterday I went to Thrift Palace inMcKinney TX. The place is skanky, but I'll dive in dumpsters, so I'm not real picky. I walked in singing My Little Pony which is my good luck song o find... yeah. Ponies! And there was a bag with two G3s and a bigger fakie. I was stoked! Then I saw this adorable little girl with an even bigger bag full, skipping off. Now, my instinct as an evil rabbit is of course to bop her and take them, but she seemed so happy with her find I found myself momentarily charmed. I went back to digging through bags when the kiddo came back. Mom had said 'no' I guess. She spotted the bag in my hand and said, "Would you like these too?" What a sweet kidlet she was! If only I'd had time to pay for them before they left I would have given her some Ponies.

Ended up with Bumblesweet, Cupcake ll, Dainty Daisy, Lickety Split, Sweet Breeze and the bigger fakie and the fakie's baby! They had been in separate bags. How sad it would've been had they gone off in two different directions instead of ending up together.

Also got two huge bags of vintage Fisher Price Little People, including most of their accessories! I was entirely delighted because I got the stagecoach with horses, driver, and an Indian in a headdress. My uncle would call the ACLU! LOL!

Also went back the the church sale and they'd put more books out. I scored a big stack of detective pulps from the 50s. DREAMY!

Normally I can find some G1s & G3s at the Methodist Mountain Missions around here. They're sorta like Goodwills & Salvation Armies. But the sad thing about it, is they will write the price on the bottom of their foot in permanent marker. So far my finds have been G1s SS Surprise, Sundance, Ringlet, & 25th anniversary Snuzzle, G3s Periwinkle & Cloud Climber. If I see a pony I can't help it, I have to save it. People shoot me the craziest look when they see how happy I find ponies. Also we have Peddler's Malls I haven't been in long while, but I used to find lots there too. I live in KY.

I know my local Goodwills ship everything seen as "collectible" straight to headquarters to be put on Ebay. I do find fakies on rare occasions, so I keep on going back in hopes that someone will mess up and put out a real pony by mistake. The local Salvation army almost never has any toys to speak of...and they are located in perhaps the worst possible location so I don't frequent there to try and snag any.

Like many of you, I have had better luck at flea markets and little peddlers junctions and such. But Ebay auctions are still my primary way of acquiring new herd members.

We have Goodwills and a few privately owned thrift stores in my area. Just like in some other parts of the country, my Goodwills stock only stuffed animals, big toddler toys, and newer packaged toys that must have been donated by closeout stores or something because they always have a bunch of the same thing. Sometimes, I'll find a loose nude Barbie thrown in but rarely anything else. The thrift shops don't have many small toys either and they tend to be quite a bit dirtier and more expensive than Goodwill.
I've been out of state to some better thrift stores where they package toys in plastic bags and I have found a few Zelfs, ponies, and 1 monster high doll! But even then, it was slim pickings.

Flea market. Nothing else. Thrift stores are pony haters. I should move to Foofoo's now :S

You should come move here. I will let you sleep in the library, it's cozy. Our mornings will be spent feeding the ponies and playing with puppies. They we'll go into the bigger cities in search of PONIES.

Then we'll eat a big ol' cake to celebrate finding tonnes of fine, fine Ponies.

What a lovely thought.

What? Have a party with the ponies and puppies without me? That's it! I'm crashing the party, and I'm bringing a giant slobbery dog with me:p I will send him on the hunt for ponies...he seems to like them (just don't expect them to be mint when he brings them back..)

Bring that big bad pooch over and we'll call it a party! I do love Danes. Maybe we can get Ology and her sweet Diesel to come too.

(Wouldn't it be fun if it were that easy?)

I have ONE thrift store I go to every single Saturday, if possible. I find ponies there quite often. Although, it has gotten to the point of if there is a G1 to be bought, I'll usually buy the bag, because they've gone from reasonable to out of this planet prices on toys. And I have no idea why.

This past weekend, I bought a bag solely because it had a movie Firefly in it with a pony wear dress. A couple of months ago, I struck gold with finding a perfume puff shop filled with G1's for 25.00. So yes, I occasionally have awesome luck. (I have found one of each MPP there as well)

But I've passed on a LOT of G3's lately. Not because I didn't want to rescue them, but because I'm simply not going to pay 13 bucks for a bag of four ponies so close to Christmas. Ebay with shipping would be cheaper. (But I do examine the bags in case there are rare ones inside, in which case, that price would be worth it)
