In general I just wouldn't touch the so softs because the flocked look on them, at least as they've aged, doesn't appeal to me. In some situations though it's not really avoidable as an adult design was only released in a so soft form, such as (poodles) Fifi and Crumpet, both ponies I adore. Are there people who deflock so softs to sell, or is it something one has to go asking around for as a custom? My guess is I'll end up buying so softs with a lot of flocking loss and just doing it myself in the end, but I'm still squeamish about cleaning or customizing ponies, afraid I'll do something wrong lol.

It’s really quite difficult and tedious. Even ponies with significant flocking loss it’s still quite a task!

I tried and I gave up. It took to much effort and time for me. But if you’re determined, I’m sure you’ll be successful.

Deflocking is a lot of work, but it's hard to really do "wrong". Most of cleaning a so soft is about desperately trying not to accidentally remove flocking.
All you need is hot water to loosen the glue and elbow grease to scrape it off with your fingernail, or some kind of not-too-sharp tool. Acetone will loosen the glue even better, if you aren't afraid of using it and avoid painted details.
If you've ever scraped a stubborn price sticker off of something, you can deflock a so soft. Just be prepared for it to take ages.

I bought a Bangles years ago that someone had started on the de-flock and given up. She was a solid task then and I will be selling her soon but sometimes you can give a pony a new life by letting them shed that patchy flocking. I still maintain that most are better with flocking loss vs de-flock but there are diamonds under the fuzz too!

Oh she looks lovely! I just find the way the flocking tends to obscure the symbols unappealing, you can hardly tell what some of them are, y'know?
