Fanfic recommendations?

As someone who has been into the fandom for more than a decade surprisingly I haven't really read any fanfics, other than the creepy pastas when I was a kid
So I'm asking if anyone has any good G4 or G5 fanfic recommendations

I'm not interested in romance :/
I'm looking for stuff with world/character building and/or stuff about the princesses
Totally A-Okay with darker stuff, I like Angst ;P Also happy with OC's and AU's

Fallout: Equestria is definitely up there if you're okay with darker stuff!
One of the most popular ones back in the day was called Past Sins, and I think it was about Nightmare Moon or a version of her? Never read it myself but people seemed to really like it.

I knew about Fallout Equestria, I havent read it but always been meaning too I'm a big fan of the fallout games and It's so funny that there is a fanfic merging the two
its one of the longest fanfic for MLP and there are even physical books you can get that I love to have myself someday!

I enjoyed Fallout Equestria (but it does have a dark tone), although I admit I started skimming the long descriptions when I was in the tail end of the story, ha ha.

"Under the Northern Lights" is good, but I don't know if it was completed, I haven't checked up on it in a while. I used to be a beta reader for that one.

"Somewhere Only We Know" by PatchworkPoltergeist is my absolute favorite. It's just a short story, though. There was a parody Rainbow Dash Presents animated version of it, and it's pretty decent, though take it a bit less seriously. The story will make you think of Black Beauty.

I haven't read much myself, either, so that and "Anthropology" are about all I've read. "Anthropology" has some interesting back story for Lyra if you have not seen anything about it before. And I know that one was printed, too, so it is another one you could own if you like!

I wrote some fics myself as Penelope Anne Ink, but I fell out of it since I was kind of burning out while writing my second one. I wrote the first one for me and my now husband's OCs as a side story to the MLP Movie (2017). I have the rest of the series as a draft but I couldn't bring myself to complete it.
