Do You Ever Feel Bad for the Ponies?

This question I guess is especially geared toward customizers but it could go for anyone. Sometimes when I get a new or baity pony and I begin taking it apart for customization I get such a sad feeling for it and I am sure most of you think this is crazy but I have a big soft spot for the welfare of toys and I find myself trying to "sooth" these poor creatures with words like "Just wait till you are done!" "You are going to be so unique!" "This may seem weird sitting in a boiling pot of water but it will all work out I promise." Haha... So do any of you get this feeling when customizing or fixing up those old ponies you always wanted but finally got and discovered were in bad shape and thus needed some rehairing or a repaint of markings?

LOL Yes! I don't talk to them, though. But I do feel bad when I strip the identity from a pony that was obviously loved once by some little girl. But then I start painting and watching TV and thoughts like that fly right out my head. :)

Well, I don't customise, but I sometimes feel bad for a pony when I have to brush their hair energetically in oder to get out tangles. I say, "Hold on, sweetie, you'll look so much better afterwards!" I also apologise to ponies when I drop them. :D

Aww yes that is true when you get one who has been around for awhile it feels kind of sad too... I usually only start feeling less guilty once they are nearly done.

Hahaha! That is cute. People tend to get frustrated with my hair when I am getting it done (it is kind of long) and brush it very, very hard so I know how those ponies feel. At least you apologize!

I apologize to my ponies when I drop them. I say hello and goodbye when I'm going out/coming back from somewhere.
I don't customize, and I probably never will, although I love customs. I just try to restore them as themselves.
Once or twice I have rehaired a pony in different colours than the originals, but they do look awesome afterwards...
I apologized to my Tabby for washing her out with this nail polish remover (with acetone) I had the windows open and a mask on, but poor Tabby was getting it poured all over her, inside and out. I felt terrible.

And omg would you believe this...

I feel like such a baby....

I made her a mask of toilet paper!

*dies of embarrassment!!*

How sad... I think I'm losing myself... *pinch- OW!!*
Nope, I'm alright. But maybe inside? Something has snapped....

I was blushing writing that. Hehehe..

Haha, I know what you mean. Of course, I've done far fewer customs than I have restorations, and it's hard to feel guilty when you're restoring them to their former beauty. :) But I do feel a little bad when I'm cleaning tail rust, and I have to leave the pony beheaded and tailless while it dries before reassembly.

I think the worst I've felt is with my G3 customs. I try to find baitier ones, but usually end up customizing ponies that are more-or-less fine. But I find them prettier as customs, and they're more unique that way, so all in all I usually feel really good about the whole thing.

shame on me, i don't... but in my defense... I've only helped them look prettier and not customized someone fully, not yet atleast :)

But I have apologized to them for dropping them before :)

Hmm good question.

I Do because ive only done g1s and they are old lol. Older than myself some of them. I mean the g1 babies ive been working on I was like oh no I should of just had a mega baby army of firefly, surprise, glory and moondancer.

But I keep thinking my adults need babies so thats my logic. **** hasbro for not making more.

haha yeah i feel very bad for all the ponies. so i hardly ever bait anyone. i'd rather wash them up and keep them as is with their scratches and such :) i love the underdogs, the ponies you know someone else would bait. and i try and make them as pretty as i can. love it

I do and don't feel bad. I feel bad because I am taking their identity away when I make a custom, but at the same time, I know that some would be destined to the landfill if they weren't in my hands. Ponies for me have to be seriously gross to become customs though, as I have a soft spot for manky ponies in my herd.

I know what you mean! I only feel good when I customize really baity ponies-otherwise there is guilt! I have a hard time when it comes to beheading-when I look into their eyes when I'm trying to get their heads off :( And then when I emove their symbols and their eyes-thats tough :( But oddly nough un-hairing isn't so bad.

I love it when I re-paint, re-hair and put on new symbols. I feel like they're waiting to find out I'm not such a terrible person and at last they see how beautiful they are :D

I don't feel bad, personally. If I were baiting something I ought not to (like a rare pony or minty one), I would, but those aren't things I do so it doesn't really matter on that part.

I figure that if they're bait enough to be turned into customs, there isn't much more they have to lose, lol. Customizing is a way of saving a baity pony, and giving them a new lease on life. So I can pull off heads and rehair knowing that they'll be more valuable and more appreciated than they were as manky, abused baits.

So no, in short, I don't feel bad. ;)

I am a sucker for sad toys:hide:. Yesterday I could not pass up a poor Windy that some dog chew the horn off, part of her muzzle, holes in her body and a part of her hooves missing. I have two windy,s already but felt sorry for this one thinking no little kid will love her again.
I was thinking to myself, "it,s alright I make it so someone will adore you again"
so her chewed hoofs now have fins, the muzzle refilled and her horn redone. Now just waiting for my airbrush to get back from the shop.

I have a flat foot cotton candy that has cancer spots all over. I feel sorry for her but can't decide if I should give her a new look or not. What do you think?

Well, if you like her this way keep her. Otherwise make he rinto something you'll appreciate more.

I don't customize, but I apologise to my ponies when I drop them, tell them how pretty they are, try not to "hurt" them when I'm brushing their hair and stuff like that ;)

I have never done any custom work on a pony, but I have done custom work on other things and there is a certain apprehension when changing something like that. I can relate though as I have a pony here that a dog got a hold of and I have worked just as hard to restyle her hair with perm rods and get her looking her best because, its not her fault a dog decided to take her on in a battle. As it turns out the poor, messed up, chewed to death ponies can be some of my favorites and I wish I could paint and reroot successfully because I would love to custom.

I do often appologize when I drop a pony and say hello and goodbye when I go in and out of the Pony room. Customizing I don't feel bad, but my Roommate is always teasing me about it: "OMG, you cut off her head! OMG you're boiling them! OMG!" :p

I'm always traumatizing visitors with my table full of dismembered ponies lol. I don't think I've ever apologized to one, but I remember being really weirded out the first time I wiped the eyes off of one.

I feel really bad for the bighead Sweetie Belle. They made her look so deformed, and she is soooo small! She is smaller than some of the McDonald's ponies!

I also feel bad for the Super Long Hair Rarity. I found one at a thrift store, her hair was tangled to a point where nothing could be done, and she was missing some hair plugs. My daughter and I then found her, brand new, at a toy store (that tends to sell rare and no longer made toys). Well, not long after she was opened, some of her hair plugs started to fall out! The same ones that were missing on the other Rarity!! So now, we have two Rarities with bald spots. The poor thing.

Also, with Rarity and Sweetie Belle, I feel bad that Hasbro couldn't be bothered to give them unique symbols, and just reused Rarity's for Sweetie Belle.

I feel sorry for the ponies with bad sellers. :(

They never get to go somewhere they'd be loved because of their seller and if they arrive in less-than advertised condition, they mostly become a source of shame or anger.

.... I think I'm projectin', lol.
