Displaying Your Ponies

Does anybody else have any problems with displaying their ponies?

My collection is steadily growing, and I'm running out of places to put them all. I'm still living with my parents so i can only really display them in my bedroom. And I don't want to put any ponies on my windowsill in case they get damaged by the sun Dx

Does anyone have any alternative advice to just downsizing my collection? =\
 
I feel your pain! I keep my collection in a china closet. It's never been the ideal place since it's dark and the shelves are so wide. I have to stack the ponies 3 deep and you can't see any of them very well. As I have been adding to my collection recently, I have realized that I am just about out of space in there. I don't really have room for another such cupboard, so I don't know what to do either. I certainly don't want to downsize at this point. Sorry I don't have any ideas, I need some too!
 
I only display the ponies that I am actively collecting.

Which to me are : G1 Sparkle and Twirly Tails, and the G3 babies.

Most other ponies, if opened, are in a storage bin, in plastic storage bags (not quite sealed all the way), with their names on them.

Those ponies NRFB are in boxes in the closet.

I do have some ponies on a bookshelf (or multiple bookshelves) on display, but only because I have not had the desire to move them off the shelves yet, or because they are plush.

I have a "master list" of ponies I already have on the computer and next to it. And a wish list that I can cross ponies off as I accumulate them.
 
I bought a big open shelf from Ikea so you can easily see the ponies even 3 rows back. But I am running out of space and some of them have started to make thier way onto my computer desk. What about building a small shelf that runs all the way around the top of the wall in your room? Then you would be able to display a lot of them and see them easily without it taking up too much space.

Oh wow, that's a really good idea xD I might just have to do that, it'd free up the space on my other shelves and they'd look neater and I'd be able to see them better ^_^ Thanks very much for the help! <3
 
You should check out this post, http://www.mlptp.net/forums/mlp-discussion/37955-making-best-small-spaces.html it has lots of great tips, including using shelf "risers". I bought some shelf risers and they let me put almost 2x the amount that would fit on the shelf before the risers. It's awesome and it makes it look really good too, you might be able to create more space for your ponies if you get these. (You can get them at Target or Walmart, and online if you search amazon.com for "expandable shelf" or "shelf risers").

In this photo, you can see that the 2 top, left shelves are using the risers, and none of the others are.
Notice how many more I can fit on one shelf with those risers!

I second the risers! :D Although I made my own out of cardboard boxes. (Because I'm thrifty like that. X3 ) And I got some cheap shelves from Wal-Mart. I think they were about $8 each. And it doesn't take up all that much room. (It looks like it take up more room than it really does. It's probably four feet wide at the very most.) Here's what my shelves look like:

OK, since Clair and Momo are showing off, I will too. I am fortunate enough to have an entire wall free for ponies..... and to have a handyman for a father. My Dad built me these shelves just for my ponies. I'm thinking about risers to maximize the space since it seemed to go very quickly. Plus, my MIB ponies are behind the loose ones, and you can't see them very well.

I display my ponies on a bookcase and I've got risers also. Dad made them for me out of leftover timber (we just finished building so there was heaps). They were very simple to make just a board the length of the shelf with legs whatever height they needed to be nailed together.

I can get 2 or in some cases 3 times as many ponies on each shelf now. To finish it off I covered the risers in panne velvet in a deep pink colour. It looks really pretty on display and all the ponies are really visible. Well it will when I finally get the last of my ponies organised on the shelfs instead of sitting on the floor in front of the bookcase. lol

I also pop baby ponies in front of their mums were possible. You can still see the mums behind because they are so much taller so in effect you gain another line of shelving - and they look so cute together :)
 
I display my ponies in a cupboard. It is actually a hide-a-away desk. Never have to dust and I can keep my ponies beside my desk in my living room since I can close it when company comes. :D

That's such an awesome idea, Avea.
I have mine in a closet, but it's not the same. I can close it when company comes, but I cannot really keep them from looking, and it's taking up a whole closet. Where did you get this hide-a-way cabinet?
 
Thanks SoSoftClaire! I got it at Canadian Tire, but I'm sure they sell somewhere in the states as well. It's called a Sauder Armoire Cabinet. I had to adjust it to suit my needs, but I wanted something deeper than the normal cupboards so I could display my nursery. I took out the keyboard and printer shelf and added another full size shelf. My fiance built me a step shelf for the top part. I had built one out of cardboard, but it kept collasping under the ponies weight. I have just over 150 ponies displayed it in so it's nice for medium sized collections - or for displaying favorites.

I have a set of shelves, but I ran out of room on it, so now the ones that aren't on there are in boxes. lol. Although at the moment, I am in a 1 bedroom apartment which Jim. Once we buy a house, I am going to get some nifty shelves like others have posted here. :)
 
I only have around 45 ponies so I just display them in two book cases in my room. I have two ponies decorating the back of my car but that's it. My pony room is my room and my favorite part of the house!
 
I love everyone's pics!! I display my G3s on a shelf that,when I was smaller,held most of my stuffed animals. I have doubles (waiting to be customized),playsets and my fave G1s behind my bedroom door. The rest of my G1s are packed up in a big computer box.
