Did I miss something? mlp crazy!

Not offended at all ;3 I understand that people have way different opinions.

I loved the old G1 cartoons (I had a few on VHS) but I've never been able to get ahold of My Little Pony Tales. Are they on youtube? (not to derail the discussion, just curious)

Yep, mlptfan has the whole series uploaded in high quality - YouTube - mlptfan's Channel I know the style isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's quite a good cartoon for its time, I think. Nice writing with morals that aren't shoved down your throat like in some kids' shows, good animation and great voice acting. It's just the "human world" setting that seems to put most people off.

</end derailed discussion xD>

I don't think we would see many of the people come here, as I'd say it's pro ally not about the toys or collecting. Just about the latest Internet fad. If this is the case, then it's totally different IMO...

I think that is one of the key differences, that a lot of bronies aren't into the toys, and the TP and Arena are more toy-collecting-oriented.

That said, I don't think it qualifies as a fad either. If it were just the memes maybe, but the non-traditional demographic is actually watching every episode. To me that simply makes it a popular show, like Dr. Who or Community.

I was thinking today, I'm actually glad more bronies aren't getting into G1 . . . New fans are often all about customizing first and checking to see if it's rare after. I just know someday I'll open a thread and see a Mimic slathered with glitter or turned into a zombie pony.

i don't think it is a problem, but i do think it is when they write those bad stuff all about the mlps. grrrrrrrr!

It's been impossible to find bargains for ponies for YEARS, they've been considered "collectible" for AGES, certainly since this the whole retro craze hit the world a few years back. I don't think it's a problem at all, I'm just so happy ponies are so popular now, after years of being the scapegoat brand. I really HATE the whole "them and us" mentality, to be honest. I don't judge people for enjoying the cartoon anymore than I hope people won't judge me for collecting toys.

I can honestly say I have no idea what is going on. I did watch the first episode of FiM and buy one of each pony MIP, along with Princess Celestia and the McDs. Other than that... I'm out. I have no idea what "bronies" or "derpy" or any of that is. While all of that is going on I'll be adding to my G1s and awaiting the next Fair, Con, and G5 ponies.

I guess I'm just too old!! I've sat by and watched each gen come and go. FiM will run it's course just like the others.

I just know someday I'll open a thread and see a Mimic slathered with glitter or turned into a zombie pony.

:hysterical:
I can imagine the pitchforks and torches coming out for that one

Regarding the different types of MLP fans, im starting to think that i personally belong to a rare species. See, im neither a collector or a "brony"/FiM-fan. Im a young adult male whose main interest in the franchise stems from the G1 cartoon and movie. I loooved that stuff during my kindergarden years in the very late 80's and very early 90's. Spike, Fizzy and the Smooze were some of my favorite fictional characters back then (along with the Hulk and Zorro :p). I am totally going to have the G1 cartoon intro playing at my funeral lol. :lol:

Anyway, in regards to how the recent popularity of FiM has effected MLP and it's fanbase at large, i can say that i too have noticed a lot of nasty hatred towards our beautiful G1 ponies and the other earlier generations as well. Pretty much the only G1-related videos on youtube that mostly avoids such comments are the ones that shows things from Rescue at Midnight Castle. I guess that episode was just TO awesome for even the most spiteful hater to pretend otherwise.8)

And it wouldnt surprise me if the MLP fanbase have indeed accuired a lot more of those nasty things that most fanbases have thanks to the bronys. You know, tasteless pornographic fanart and crap (I havent stumbled on much of those things myself though).
