Making custom ponies is a great way to breathe life into an old and usually damaged figure. Chewed bits, highlighter spots, mold... the list goes on and on. Sometimes, however, things don't work out as planned. On every customizer a little rain must inevitably fall.
Meet Silverlight!.. then wish that you hadn't.
This was never meant to happened. Originally I was trying to fix up a beddy-bye-eye baby Sundance. Spots on the body, horrible rusty eyes... I was trying to de-rust them when some of the CLR made the plastic go cloudy and the eye lenses and backer paper with the printed irises just dropped out. Eww. Now eyeless, I gave up on restoration. I figured I'd just fill in the sockets and paint on new eyes but why not try a change of color? There aren't many black or grey ponies so why not? It seemed like a great idea!
Boil boil. Check the pony, it's only slightly grey. Throw it back in. Boil boil, still not enough, you can still see the highlighter marks. Boil boil, boil boil, boil... burning plastic smell. Check the pony, it's been cooking merrily! Look, half of its 'skin' on one side is stuck to the bottom of the pot! I wanted a unique pony and I certainly have one now.
Sure, I could have thrown the smoldering wreckage of what had once been baby Sundance away, but why not try to get something out of this unfortunate incident? She's still mostly in one piece! Hadn't tried rehairing a pony with salvaged hair or using tinsel before. Having empty sockets is creepy though, how about stuffing metallic beads in there? Now it looks like a ghost! A wraith, maybe.
The name is vaguely related to Shadowgate, an old point and click adventure game. There's a wraith in the castle that just hangs out, not really threatening anybody, just floating around and casually obstructing a door. It's banished with the light of a special silver torch. So, Silverlight. The unburnt side of the pony features a silver torch with silver and lavender glitter flames. I wouldn't have done this intentionally but she's still kind of pretty despite being a scorched mess.
Enough about Silver, though, what bizarre abominations have you accidentally wrought? Pics if possible.
