County Fair :)

Hi there. :)

I was flipping through my fair's entry booklet this year (Contra Costa County, CA) and I kind of want to do a display case of ponies! I don't know if other fairs do this, but our fairs out here will provide display cases (with a lock) that you can display collections in and educate the public. I'm not a huge pony collector (I have quite a few but I don't go out and buy), but I kind of think it would be fun... as it should appeal to 80s kids and children alike. :) I could do all the generations and the history of ponies... even for non-pony collectors it should be kind of interesting, right?

What do you guys think? Anyone ever done something like this?

I think it's great.....and educational! :) I know I would enjoy looking at that if I was at the fair. Do you have a My Pretty Pony? Since she was brown, you could show how MLP had roots in horses that look more real, and then moved into a more fantasy look. :)

I remember someone on the board did a display at their local library in one of their cases. There were 3 shelves and they had all three generations with signs and short paragraphs explaining release dates and stuff like that. It was really nice since it was a lighted case. You'll have to see if your case will be lit, that will help you decide how much to put in it.

Sure sounds great to me being a collector of course. I would flip out if I saw your display. Good luck and have fun.

Rock-on! This is very interesting, I would go for it! Excellent, sounds neat..

I did this one year at our fair and it was a lot of fun. And I got 3rd place as well. Lots of people seem to like it. I had a great time putting up the display as well.

Someone does one at my fair every year, they do a small breyer, mlp, and ceramic display.

That would be rad. I remember once, when I was a kid, there was a huge collection of MLPs at the San Diego County Fair (formerly known as the Del Mar Fair). It was really impressive and it inspired me to take better care of my ponies. ;)

Oh, that's really cool! I'm pretty sure our display cases aren't that big though, nor with multiple shelves... it's basically like a large glass box. Space is probably going to be a factor with what I can put in there. :p I suppose I can always use pictures too (like a picture of a my Pretty Pony) for things I don't have.

I know I'm going include a G1 Earth Pony, Pegasus, Unicorn... I probably won't go into "types" of ponies (like TAF, Princess, etc) but maybe use a picture card to show what they look like. :p I've got G2s and G3s too... the funny thing is that I don't have a G3.5 yet, but I'll probably find one before the fair in June. I have a dream castle in okay shape... I might put that in. :)

Also, I might include MCDs ponies (g2 versions, ponyville-like verision, g3 versions, and g3.5 versions to choose from) because I'm sure many people are familiar with them. I also might put in some fakies to show the difference? Annnd I have an Italy and US Skydancer, which might be cool to show the country difference...

I also kind of want to put a kind note somewhere noting that collecting ponies is just a fun hobby and that most ponies aren't worth significant amounts of money (I wouldn't want people seeing my collection and pulling out ponies from their garage thinking they're worth $15 a pony, that drives me crazy), or is this in bad taste?
