Yesterday I was in Target looking for this item. I found it and was a little shocked by the size. The one I saw had two ponies inside and they were adorable. I thought this was going to be so much larger but it was tiny and very expensive to me for what it was. I can't remember the price now. I was hoping maybe it was mismarked on the shelf..two ponies and a few plastic toys shouldn't be that expensive. I don't know why I thought this was going to be bigger and better than it was. I am pretty sure it was the castle because it said that on the box. I left it there. What is up with the prices? We went to TRU and bought the ponyville size G4 set and it was 24.00. Doesn't that seem a little high? These are just pvc figures. They cost pocket change to make. I don't know how anyone is affording toys for their kids anymore. Went through the entire TRU and the prices were just through the roof on everything. There was very little pony stuff really and the shelving space for pony stuff has been reduced to a fourth of what it was two years ago. I was in a very affluent part of town so you would think more would be out there. Am I alone in the frustration on finding things that are MLP in stores now compared to the past?

No. you're not.

my boyfriend and I were talking about this recently, actually. about the toy industry and how it's going down the drain.

most things now are cheaply made, quickly made, recycled molds, unimaginative. A lot of toys don't come out on their own anymore either. they're mostly based off of shows. they aren't fun, they don't have good paint or poseable parts. You know, nothing sets them apart. just a cheap, plastic toy.

I hate to say too but hasbro is probably one of the worst with it. that's just the truth. they're notorious for recycling molds and making quick, cheap plastic toys (I'm saying this with Transformers toys in mind too). Legos have gone down the drain too.

on top of being cheap and boring things are expensive.

the toy industry is releasing anything they can get their hands on. like Squinkies? wtf is that? have you even seen the paint/plastic job on those?

i refuse to believe "oh well it's just kids playing with it, they don't care they will just destroy it". not true. Kids deserve creative, well made toys that will be durable and stimulate their imaginations too.

mini rant over! =] maybe not so much a rant as just disappointed really. toys and play are essential things in life for all ages. not understanding what happened. economy? maybe. I dunno

Yea I know I agree. As far as squinkies are concerned I have many of those and so far the ones I have had perfect paint jobs. I like them because they remind me of the little rubber animals and monsters I got as a child in the gumball machine when gumball machine toys were actually good compared to now. But...I will admit the cost of squinkies is just plain ridiculous. I like the hello kitty ones and disney ones best. I have plans to use them in art projects so they will be really cute when I am done with them. I do have the conern though that the paint might rub off over time. Nothing lasts anymore. ARgh

I think you were looking at the wrong set. There are two, well actually three sets labeled Canterlot Castle. The first set is in a box actually shaped like a crown? with 3 spikey "spires". At first you may not notice it's a box because it's sitting in it's lid. It cost's about $30. It's called Celebration at Canterlot Castle.

The second set is MUCH bigger in size and also only has two ponies, many accessories including Rarity's carriage. This set is more rectangular and the sides fold in to be secured by string. It costs about $40.

The third set isn't really a castle but says Royal Ball at Caterlot Castle and has all 6 ponies with capes, crowns on for the ball. I believe this set was $35.

I would supply pictures but you can find them easily enough everywhere. Just google My Little Pony Canterlot Castle and look at the images.

They are all very expensive for what they are indeed.

Yes, it's in target, and I thought I saw a post saying the Canterlot stuff is on sale at 20% off ( again) this week. I was pleasantly surprised with the Castle ( the big one), despite its being made of cardboard ( fine for a collector who will use it for display, but for kids to play with? gimme a break, it will be ruined in a week), but still think it's overpriced (again, kids are gonna be sad when it crumbles and folds or gets wet and falls apart, and parents will wonder what they paid good money for).

A couple weeks ago, the store had quite a number of them. Fwiw. Good luck in the hunt.

I know not all Targets carry the larger set. I wanted to see it in person when the Canterlot stuff first came out and I had to go to 5 stores before finally finding it. By that time, I had decided to just go ahead and buy it and an extra just in case someone else had that problem (I have it posted at cost in the sales forum).

Target does have it listed on their site now; so, you can check to see if they have it in a store near you: Target:My Little Pony Canterlot Castle Playset

Here's another picture of it:

Oh, and the smaller Celebration at Canterlot Castle set is $20 not $30.

Ah man, I agree! The prices nowadays are awful and the actual products are just cheap! G4s are so small but cost a bunch more than they used to. And they used to have big, quality, PLASTIC castles. Like Celebration Castle, (G3) was $20 and came with a pony and a bunch of accessories. But now for $20 you get two tiny ponies, a few accessories and a CARDBOARD BOX. Whoopdedoo! (The whoopdedoo was sarcastic.)

Yep this is the reason I am tempted to just let most of this line pass me by and try to find things at the thrift because I have a feeling they will hit the thrift stores quickly. Too much money for cardboad. Not just hasbro is doing this. I love La La loopsy and noticed their case house had a cardboard insert..that was a disappointment so I put it back on the shelf for the price..duh...come on.

I hear you about waiting and finding things at yard sales and thift shops. I really want Starbeam Twinkle, but I do not want to shell out the money for the playset. I know that's my own issue though. Special ponies with playsets is nothing new. That's been going on since G1.

Oh noooo, it was hard to find? I got that Fisher-Price castle at Value Village a few years back but eventually donated it back to V.V. when I moved, because I needed more space and didn't think anyone would pay the shipping for it. D:
