Buy cleaned ponies OR buy & clean yourself?

Please, excuse me if this has already been asked. I tried searching the forums, but got no results.

I have G1 ponies to sell/trade. I am not the original owner & some are dirty or have marks on them. I understand cleaning them MAY make me more money. However, I prefer to clean/repair things myself. So, I'm wondering how everyone else feels about this. I'd rather have happy buyers/traders than make a few more dollars.

Thanks for your time and attention.

I won't buy a dirty pony. I prefer to see them shining and looking good. The only exception to this is if I buy from a thrift store. Now I did buy a pony once that was supposed to be mint and she was covered in cat pee so, even I can somehow end up with a stinky, bad ookie girl.

I've found ponies (or anything else for that matter) sell faster and for better prices if they have at least had a basic cleaning and have their hair combed. I personally will go a couple steps farther than the basic cleaning and also fix tail rust and tame frizzy hair, but any major restoration like rehairing or paint touch-ups I leave to the buyer. There seem to be far more people out there that want their ponies already clean and styled either because they lack the time to do it themselves or they are just not confident enough in their own skills than there are people wanting to do all the work themselves. Also, people who are looking for clean ponies will not buy dirty ones, but those willing to buy dirty ones will also buy clean ones.

I am glad to find a dirty Pony and clean her up. It is actually part of the hobby I enjoy, taking something and making it look new again. Dirty ponies look so sad to me, so i like to think I'm cheering them up!

I would say clean them and style the hair. You will sell them faster than dirty ponies. I personally love buiyng clean ponies since I am so lazy nowdays to clean them.I have box of ponies bought Dec 2015-Feb 2016 that needs cleaning but I haven't have time or energy for them :( (and they only need basic cleaning, I am sooo lazy LOL)
Little bit effort for the ponies appearance and the photos you took from the ponies (making them look pretty in photos) and you will sell them faster ;)

I think most of us prefer to buy clean ponies. That being said, I wouldn't go above and beyond to pop off their heads and clean up the insides, just concentrate on the outsides. Hard-core collectors will re-clean them anyways and go the necessary mile like boiling them and clean out their insides if they need it.

I prefer clean ponies. I don't mind if they're a leetle dirty or have a few small marks, but when the seller makes an effort to ship one to me all clean smelling with shiny, groomed hair, that's awesome! They made an effort. I didnt mind cleaning Starhopper but the amount of rust inside her was redonkulous!

You can fix up a lot of hair problems with a dunk in boiling water and then brushing out the tangles and magic erasers get rid of a lot of surface gunk on ponies. Online most people don't typically buy dirty ponies unless they're in a bait lot of customs. A quick clean up will increase their value too

If they're G1 or G3, I don't mind, as long as the price reflects it, because I actually enjoy the restoration process. I have some girls waiting to be cleaned in the bathroom as I type this from a thrift store find a few months ago.

I think people like to buy clean ponies more, but I find more deals if the ponies are dirty. I also find it kind of fun cleaning them up and styling their hair. :D

I'm the same. :) There's something very satisfying about restoring things like that, giving things a new lease of life. :)

That is a very good point though. :)

I will definitely buy dirty ponies but usally those are the kind i get for a few bucks as "bait" While I love fixing up my ponies it's totally not a lost on my part to buy them already cleaned and ready for display

I prefer to buy and clean the ponies myself. Its quite fun and relaxing to give my ponies a bath :)

Clean and sparkly ponies (or anything else!) will sell a whole lot better and fetch a higher price.

I prefer collecting "bait" G1s so I tend to buy dirty, icky ponies and clean them up.

There's something really satisfying for me about cleaning and restoring old ponies. I prefer to do it myself! I'm also not really a collector though, just a cleaner, so there wouldn't be much point in me buying clean ponies.

Simple solution: Post them for sale before cleaning, say when you will start cleaning them and that they will be a little more expensive once they're cleaned, and you end up selling dirty ones to people who like that, and probably a priority list for which ones to clean next if there's any demand.
