Bronies

imho the "brony" movement is the BEST thing to have happened to MLP since... ever, frankly. They are creative, inspiring and above all passionate. They've provided us with video games, animations, beautiful art, songs, song videos and comics. If people are REALLY going to be so narrow minded as to tarnish an ENTIRE fandom or subset of fandom with the same brush because of a FEW bad eggs, then I really don't know how they'll cope in the real world when they find out not everybody in their community is lovely. The world is made of good and bad and sadly the bad always shouts the loudest, and sadder still, the bad are always heard the clearest, too.

I suppose it's very easy to be in denial about the problematic elements of a fandom when it doesn't happen directly to you; e.g. "bad things only happen to other people." Personally, I have seen a lot of horrendous, offensive stuff from Bronies, and that's all I'll say on the subject.

But in an attempt to 'turn around' the thread, I'll share some positive stuff Bronies have done for me, personally! :] (Since it's easy to say "oh they've made X and Y" which isn't really FOR anyone, I'll stick to stuff that's happened directly to me.) For example, when I was helping a Brony get a set of McDonald's ponies at-cost, he sent me $15 extra, just to thank me for helping him out! It was very nice of him, and not something he had to do at all. :]

I also had someone email me and offer me their unwanted pony accessories (the little animal friends!) for the cost of shipping, so hopefully soon I will have a tiny box of pony accessories in my mailbox! :3 And again, they didn't have to do that at all; it was just something nice they felt like doing for me, because they were friendly and I mentioned liking them.

Does anyone have any nice stories about Bronies to share? I'm sure there's more; even though there are a few notable 'bad apples' in the bunch, I've noticed a lot of very friendly, very kind new collectors, too. :] I've gotten a ton of warm comments on photos I've posted of my G3 collection, for example! And when I posted some pictures of ponies I dressed up for contests here on the TP, people said they looked wicked cool! ;] Maybe we should have a G4 dress up contest!!!

I think Ive shared this already but on a brony facebook page one of them said how it bothers them that a lot of bronies arent tolerant of people who like older ponies. So yeah, there's definitely ones that really do understand what their message of tolerance is supposed to mean. One of them also suggested bringing back G1 villains, for what its worth. I said that's awesome as long as they don't get ruined....

To keep the "good" brony stories rolling, I'd like to add :3

I've actually had an "in real life" random encounter with two bronies, surprisingly at all places the bookstore I worked at back in July. At the time, I had an image of Pinkie Pie in my nametag (not to mention a Sugarberry pin) and when the two noticed it, well, that was that XD They were real nice guys (one was a bit loud, but I think he just lacked an internal volume control and didn't intend to be so extreme), and we actually shot the breeze and talked about several different things for quite a bit of time.

What I found interesting was that one of them seemed quite relieved to talk to another individual in person who understood ponies, wasn't judging him, and didn't think him crazy---which is a lot of mentality we collectors have with other non-collectors.

We exchanged emails, and I chat them up time to time.

Aside from this, I infrequently check out a brony's (leaving name out to keep these stories anonymous) livestream because he's a descent kid, pretty much doesn't sit for the crazy drama in his chats, and tries to keep it clean as it were. Though I can't speak for everyone I find in his chatroom, it's always been a generally good experience. And they're tolerant of me XD I've made it a point to them that I'm first, a girl (they tease me over this, which is fine), and that I'm foremost a collector.

And, as an additional aside, there are some treasures the bronies have created that I quite enjoy. In particular the music. Granted, I don't approve of 95% of it, but that small select 5% is just pretty amazing, especially if one is merely viewing it on an artistic scale versus a fandom scale. Music is music, I like what I like, after all.

That isn't to say I haven't had my own bad experiences, but my post here is to share the good times. Anyone else?

We're all in this together. I think it's time to put our differences aside.

Every pony equal. Every pony loved.

I agree 101% percent. As for good brony stories, well... thousands of dollars raised for charity for a few sketches by Lauren of the FiM cast is a good place to start.

I will reply to this though; "
denial about the problematic elements of a fandom" - I'm not in denial at all. I'm merely acknowledging truthfully that the majority of this fandom, like any other, is good and awesome. :)

On the positive side, a brony did a class presentation on My Little Pony and researched the previous pony generations quite thoroughly.

They even included the info about G2 continuing in Europe until G3 kicked in.

As a male G1 Big Brother Pony, I have suffered horrible abuse from Bronys on both the net and in real life. While there are good ones, there are also many bad apples in the community. For a group that espouses love and tolerance, they sure don't have much when it comes to differing opinions other than their own.

Although I still think you cant lump them all together, I hear you when it comes to what commonly happens. I had this youtube video and some people were talking like G4s are superior and whatnot. But what really gets me is when they make it sound like its just obvious fact, not their opinion. No matter how respectful and not-rude their words sound otherwise.

There are people however who will say things like "You were a brony even before G4s? That's really awesome and brave!"
And I love those.
I'm probably one of the few people who has made gamer-related content that has non-G4 ponies in it.
:)

Since this thread has been bumped again, I'm just going to give a very brief but firm reminder to keep things civil.

See my previous response here: http://www.mlptp.net/forums/684370-post100.html

I think we can all agree that there are rotten apples in every bunch, no matter what the group of people is or what they represent. Here at the Trading Post, we have pre-G4 collectors and Bronies alike, and our focus is to try our best to make everyone feel welcome, which includes respect for each other.

And, if at any time anyone here finds themselves in a situation where they are being harassed by anyone on the TP (for any reason!) please contact a mod ASAP.
:eek:k:

No problems from me, I have a lot of Brony friends, and I do like watching G4 myself. I mean no disrespect to any on here, and in my last post I did say there were good ones as well as bad.

No worries, Firehooves :) Just trying to douse a flame war before it begins, as some people have very strong opinions about this phenomena, and sometimes those opinions get a bit contorted through the all-text world of the internet. ;)

My only problems are with the bad apples, regardless of how many there are or how common I say they seem to be.
I also consider people who treat the whole bunch the same, to be apples equally rotten.
:)

Despite the fact that I found you guys via the FiM fandom (after, of course, having ponies of my own as a kid) I learned a LOT from that guy's presentation. Great link.

I have to admit I loved the whole brony thing when I first got sucked into FiM, especially after having been more accustomed to the current cynical troll culture that's become so pervasive online. After a while though, it was kind of apparent just how much of the brony culture was derived from that same troll culture, but were trying on this new and unfamiliar costume of "love and tolerance." That's not to say there aren't good people in there of course, just enough who aren't that I got tired of it and wound up mostly disassociating from the lot.

Yeah, not a big fan of wubstep that all the kids are into now, and the heavy use of Frooty Loops type stuff has kept me from exploring their music scene too extensively. Not A Clever Pony has some stuff that's not bad though. I'd be interested to hear what you've found that you liked.

Oh no! I just realized when I was looking at this thread how old it was and the fact that I bumped it up and opened old wounds! I actually mistook the thread for an active discussion, not a closed matter I dug back up! What a horrible way to intro myself to the board! I never meant to be so uncivil!! I apologize to both the boards Bronys and G1 fans for doing this. :(

Hi guys... Long time no see. ^^'

I've... had both good and bad experiences. My good amount friends--one of which I "converted" myself, are bronies. (Heck, a guy from an anime convention I go to started a mini-pony meet there. We ended up being good friends afterward.)

At the same time, I had to SHUT DOWN MY GOOGLE + ACCOUNT due to bad bronies. Bad, terrible bronies.

Love and Tolerance. Just remind me of that if I ever start a comic and I get one piece of...

Hnngg. I am not even gonna say it.

Anyway! Yeah. Bronies. Like any other fandom in the world, y'gotta take the bad with the good, I guess.

I don't think you did anything wrong. I hate it when people treat "necroposting" like its the end of the world.
