Wheeee! I finished my first custom last night! I'm so excited ^.^

So I plan on making some real customs here soon, but wanted to practice first. I have a bunch of fakies, so I thought I'd start experimenting on them xD

Ok, so the specs. Black Dahlia started life out as a rather scary Bratz pony fakie. She has these awful lips, these horrid yellow shoes... She's rather frightening.

Well, those shoes and lips were bothersome. I didn't know what to attempt to do with her. But then I thought... ya know, these could be kinda cute if I gave them a punkish/gothic twist. So that's where the purple/black color scheme was born. I knew she was gonna have big black lips, and that made me think "Black Dahlia." So her name and symbol were born.

She is a full body repaint, a mix of Apple Barrel and Folk Art acrylic paints.

And then the hair. At first, I was going to use the hair I removed from her - it was going to be super short, so I was going to give her a mohawk. But then, I remembered I had a really baity Cloudpuff - full of regrind - and she still had her tail. It was a frizzy mess, but there was much more of it than the original hair and tail of the fakie. So Cloudpuff relinquished her tail, which got a RIT dye job of black fading to purple. I rerooted her last night, and here is the final result. Unfortunately, not sealer, so the paint chipped around her neck - next time, I need to remember to leave it off when I paint. I had to remove the head again after painting. I may still style her hair, but I really think the poofy frizz kind of fits her, so I dunno.

So what do y'all think? Please give me contructive criticism! ^.^

She's pretty & I like her hair color! :D

Thank you DB! ^.^ I love purple and black together. But RIT dye really stinks xD

Is the hair actually black or a more darkish purple? To me it looked dark purple...

It's black at the roots, and fades to purple on the tips. ^.^ The parts where the two colors meet though are a mix so they are kind of a darkish purple in the middle ^.^

Oh, but in the sun, the black does have purpley looking shine to it.

wow that's cool! :)

Wow, you really took all the advice you got to heart! She looks great! Are you sure this is your first?

Great job BB! I love how you explained all the details and put a lot of pics. You did an excellent custom and I can see how it's not believable that this is your first!

Awww wow... more warm fuzzies. I love hearing that a first custom doesn't look like it's a first. Y'all are so sweet. Thank you so much Pika <3

I was worried there would be too many pictures, but I really wanted y'all to see the transformation ^.^

she is simply gorgeous! i love the color scheme you yused and those lips! she really does look like a pouty punk goth girl. and her hair looks really good; te frizzy has an "elvyra" feel that just adds to the goth-punk nature. i personally love her!

Awwww thanks Kat. That makes me feel super good about her. Y'all are really making me want to make some real customs now. Squee this comment gave me super warm fuzzies too. *hugs* <3

Those Bratz ponies are really cool. I like how they are in style with their lipstick and high heels. Good job.

Terrific first custom! The dark makeover is a vast improvement over her fakie-fail former self. She's got style now! I like how you did her eyes. I kind of like her hair frizzed/ratted out like that too. Maybe you can crimp it to help the frizz look intentional. Goth ponies are what drew me into collecting in the first place, they hold a special place in my heart. Even the fakies!

Awww thanks for this sweet comment Kar ^.^ She was rather an 'epic fail' before xD I'm rather pleased with her makeover. I like the darker side of things too ;) I'm actually trying to hunt my crimper down! xD I thought it really suit her. Thankies bunches :rose3:
