Argh, any tips for packing ponies? They will be kept inside in a slightly-air conditioned house and checked on every week.

I bought those big plastic storage bins with lids at wal-mart, is it better to lay them all down, or try and stand some up? is it better to wrap them in baggies or tissue? My wingers, I am going to just display somewhere safe in my house and maybe my SS too, because I don't want their fur to get indented, any suggestions, tips, and advice are appreciated,

Hopefully they will only be stored 2 months, my dad stays with us at out house and he's going back to Hawaii for 2 months, so until he comes back we are moving all my ponies into his room, so we can build shelves.

Thank you, Kat

they should be in plastic bags, in case one or two have contagious mold. That way it won't spread.. plastic bins and boxes are like pony mold incubators.

I wouldn't worry about anything other than that.. padding, etc. because even though they're collectables and mean a lot to you, they're still all plastic =)

good luck on the shelves, and I hope you have enough patience to brush all their hair again later on, lol.

It's best not to stack them on top of eachother in the same container. You can get large but short containers for under your bed that work great for storing them. There are boxes this size too. Great for stacking in closets.

You don't want to start a smooze plague. If they have mold, I hear boiling them and washing them stops the growth. Bleach water should do the same trick, but be carefull with colorful or white ponies and rinse thoroughly.

If you wash them beforehand, MAKE SURE THEY'RE COMPLETELY DRY (especially by the tail) before storing them in any sort of sealed container. Wahs them, then them in a position with the tail hole as the lowest point, squeeze them so that all the standing water comes out of the hole, and then set them on a mug/cup in that position to dry at least for a few days.

Water proof containers are great in case you have a flood or fire, but I worry about mold spreading in there or them just stinking, so I like to use cardboard boxes and keep them in a dry place. If they have a scent or are so-softs or very rare ponies, I bag them.

Don't store them in a damp place (damp basement) or place that gets too hot (attics). Room temp is best.

ashlyne gave some excellent info!

I personally use those giant tubs (except for storing flutters and so softs)

But, I wouldn't worry about ponies becoming moldy unless,
a) they are not fully dry when you store them
b) you store them in a damp or humid place

remember, some ponies can take a few weeks to air dry fully! (if you submerged them in water)

I have tried to send mold from one pony to another in a clean, dry environment. (one pony with cancer and mold & one that was clean- both ponies were completly dry) I left them for over 3 months together and it didn't work :?

but, my second experiment of putting a few ponies (with NO cancer/mold) in a slightly damp place sure got them all spotted in no time! (I left them under the bathroom sink :D )

so, I don't think it's the "mold or cancer" itself that's contagious, but the reason why it's spreads through a herd, is improper storage conditions.

**yes, I have a lot of time on my hands, **
