Did this as part of an art trade for Colormist.

I'm not sure about the pose...Something about the front legs seems a little strange. Critique is more than welcome.

The transparency is a little crazy, I know. XD It was my first time trying it. Art trades are great like that, they're opportunities to try new things out. ^^

Also, if anyone knows how to do/has a tutorial for a metallic metal effect in Photoshop, please let me know! <3

He is cute I like him ^^

I think his problem is not in his front legs but in his back, a bit short maybe? to me it seems that he is facing us but whith his back jegs trying to face right :/ so maybe a longer back would be better :)

I like your style of drawong and the way you do the hair :inlove:

there is something really rather odd about his chest area, the lines just don't fit right.

i agree about the chest area, there is something wrong, it looks too rounded maybe? I also think that the body is too short for those legs, and the horn seems to be coming out of his eyebrow..... it doesn't seem central enough.

I will try to be as constructive as possible, so no offense meant. But it seems to me to be out of proportion. The size of the head, torso, and legs appear mismatched.

Personally, i think his nose looks like its "wry" (twisted to the side) which makes his scull appear twisted. And i agree that the legs are a bit wide, and the torso a bit short.

I agree with Millenium 100%. No offense meant, its a beautiful character design!

Also, i just noticed the horn, i agree that it could be more centralized.

Keep practicing though! You wont learn unless ya keep at it!

the horn is definitely off-center... like it's coming out of the middle of his hair or something. *cocks head* also, the way the chest is drawn makes the legs look completely detached... if the line didn't go all the way across his legs they would look better... like if there was a V where his legs meet, and then some space, and then lines going up to his shoulders, ya know?

^_^ I knew there was something wrong with the legs there. Thanks.

I've been messing with horn perspective and stuff lately. It's difficult. XD Obviously it still needs work.

Thanks, manateejaq. I used a tutorial for that, it was my first time trying colored lineart. ^_^

Very nice drawing. Here are some problems with the drawing:

The hooves are as big as the head, which is certainly not in propotion. Is Silver Swirl part elephant? I'm just curious. There are no nostrils, how does he breathe? I see two lines, but I'm not entirely sure what those could be for...maybe someone drew on his face when he was sleeping? The ears are overly large, almost as large as those of a donkey. The chest is too inflated, normally legs are at the front of the body, with space in between due to bone structure, speaking of which, I don't recall horses or ponies have such human-like collar bones. The back legs and front legs are too close together, unless you meant for him to appear as if perched on a pin-head. The head is misshapen, and the nose is too squashed in and round. Also the horn is off-center, and is positioned just behind the right (his left) brow ridge. And one last thing, the angle at which he is standing is off, and looks like he is about to fall down at any moment, but this could be due to the leg problem I mentioned earlier.

Again I would like to stress, nice drawing.

reminds me of an emu or another large flightless bird, it looks like he only has one eye. is he supposed to be winking?

emu? I think I missed that.

Anywho,
I'm really surprised by all the great crit in this thread! ^_^ I wish there was more constructive critism all the time. It's always nice to have compliments, but personally I think that real progress can be made when there is critism.

Too bad I don't think your critism is sincere. It just seems to me that you're all trying to "get back" at her for her critiques on some unnamed threads. Is it really necessary?

Actually so far the criticism I see is all right on. The drawing does look odd to me, and if I'd commissioned it I would be unhappy with it.

The spite and rudeness you're thinking of is being kept to the CF board, and Rose has been sent a link to the thread. Whether she shows up or not is her own choice.

It looks like it's about to fall over. Kind of reminds me of those goats whose legs lock when they are scared. The colors are nice though.

Are these a part of the "right on" to you? It is crit, yes, but it doesn't seem very constructive to me.

Both of those are from one poster, who stressed "nice pic" at the bottom. I didn't read that (the "nice pic") as being sarcastic. *shrug* Maybe they were.

I think those are funny ways to get the point across...the critiques are true at any rate. The feet are huge and the head is odd. Rose seems to be taking the criticism very well, so why not? If this were somebody who was freaking out that she was getting any criticism, I'd say that was over the top. But rose is being so smooth with everything, and I read those particular comments as being in jest, not as malicious.

(Btw, rose--I don't think the horn is off-center. It lines up well with his nose. I think his ears are off center...moving the left one to the right a bit might make his head less awkward looking.)

Well said, 'jaq.

Honestly, it's art that I asked for and I couldn't be happier with it. I asked for Rose to draw me SilverSwirl as a male and she's rather fond of him/her as a female. Most people get offended if you try to genderbend, so I was quite pleasantly surprised to get a blatantly male SilverSwirl. I love him!

I'm also glad to see that you tried out a new technique on this drawing. A lot of artists I know get stuck in a rut and don't want to try new directions on their art. It's an honor to be the first. ;)

And yes, we all saw your snarkiness on the Catfights and we all know that you're ganging up on Rose to get "back" at her, so don't pretend like you're being nice when you clearly aren't.

I would greatly appreciate it (since this is my GIFT from Rose, and you're critiquing something that is under my ownership now) if all rude and callus remarks towards my artwork would discontinue.

Thanks.

And Rose, if you're still reading this thread and would like some honest critique, you might consider saving your transparencies as pngs (if you can). You'll lose the white gunks around the edges that way. :)
