Are there any fans of the new G5 show/toys out there? I uh.....unfortunately need a safe space to discuss it.....

Welcome!

I am so deeply rooted in G1's that i have a hard time accepting G5. Took me a long time to accept G4, though I don't collect them. But I don't consider myself snobbish to diss anyone that likes them! This forum is a safe place to like any generation of MLP!

Hi, fellow G5 fan and 2001 baby! I haven't actually been keeping up the Netflix series, but I do really like the style/ toys. To me, they almost seem like a sorta return to form, as it reminds me of a mix between G2 and G3, which will forever be my favorite pony gen (I'm not a fan of G4's art style either). Hope you enjoy your time here! :Flutter3:

I hate to say it but I really can't do anything past G4 Friendship Is Magic and even that grinds my gears allot of the time. I had watched a little of it when it first came out and invaded the anime con scene but I didn't get very far.
I tried again recently and couldn't do past the first episode. It doesn't have enough depth for my tastes like the G1 through G3 did.
The only plus I can say about the newer series keep the fandom alive but I wish the animation was brought back to original eras.
Again, G4's toys are just.....awful. G5 and G3 really do have the best. But as far as the G4 fanbase.....well.....I met someone who is working in the military and let's just say G5 is more than what meets the eye. In fact it was a complete corporate psyop because the base itself is full of ****s, those people who want to hurt children, and all other crazy kinds in between. I'd believe it, since the Ant Bully was a movie by DNA Productions (same company who made Jimmy Neutron) that was so bad it flopped, bankrupted and shut down the whole studio. Sure Toy Story may have been the first of the first but G5 certainly "Makes its Mark" (no pun intended).

Then again I suppose it's just a matter of different generations of people who enjoy different things. I mean, I was practically raised on Pixar and DreamWorks and a lot of the franchises I know now I was introduced to through a movie so......

But the bronies need to learn not everyone can and will like the same thing :/.

I will! And I'm trying to acquire a few G2 things atm. I mean, it's....okay for what it is. And as I told another commenter, G3 is starting to become a close second. Also G5 really takes me back to an innocent time where CGI was huge, those programs that were just made to sell toys were beyond decent, and toys themselves were of utmost quality. I've developed an emotional attachment to it.......is that bad? Lol jk. But still, G4 is just.....well.....long story short it's very overrated and very overworked. And it doesn't teach much unlike G5 does.

Welcome!

Heh. I feel like I'm already deeply rooted in G5.....and G1 is decent honestly. Also I have nothing against anyone who likes any older gen, as long as they give me a good reason for liking it.

PS: I'm trying to get over some cognitive dissonance from everything as it is. It's such a mind game lol.

Hello all. My name is Spencer, I'm 22, and I came here as In just now getting my start on the MLP franchise in general.

Recently I have fallen in love with the new "Make Your Mark" series on Netflix and quite honestly, it is helping me heal childhood trauma as it reminds me a lot of the Shrek/Toy Story/Pixar movies I loved as a kid, plus the merchandise is....beyond amazing, and it's almost like a dream come true to me. My room has G5 stuff all over and I'm currently trying to clear old things out for more. Even have acquired a few things from G1 and G3.

However......I've been having difficulty trying to find people who are also fans to discuss with besides one or two. Yes I'm aware there is that fanbase for guys who like MLP but this is where my trouble began. I must say a few things:

1. No, I'm not a "Brony" in any shape form or fashion
2. I dislike G4 (and have my reasons to, including the quality of the toys)
3. Please do not attack me in the comments, I'm just stating an opinion after all

Those things being said, I tried going to that fanbase to find friends but.....OMG......told them Friendship Is Magic wasn't my thing, ended up having cyberstalkers and doxxers after me. I do not understand why people have to be so mean.....have been in shock for months. Was just trying to talk to dudes who like ponies because ya know, a pony is a pony no matter what gen it is.

Side note, I don't like G4 because the style is way too cartoonish, too simplistic (and honestly somewhat babyish), the toys are complete junk, basically same stuff again and again, and the show itself is a joke. The Paw Patrol style Friendship missions and the Barney level forced morals. Ugh. If those two weren't bad enough. Also became very overrated and overworked with time. Episodes/stories drag on. I already explained the fanbase to you. Has just led people down a path of ignorance like some Disney movies have. Do not understand why things have to be cult like either. Again, just my opinion.

G5 honestly feels more mature and acts like it wants to do its job right. Feels like the real deal IMHO.

Still......I know this is a small start here but anything has to be better than that cesspool of a fandom I tried to go to.
Hi ☺️

It’s so nice to meet you! I’m so happy you are enjoying My Little Ponies, thanks to Make Your Mark!
I was a kid in the 80s so naturally I fell in love with the original ponies and the G1 pony series. My parents were 1980s D&D playing/Renaissance fair going types so mythology and folklore are a big part of who I am. The G1 My Little Pony series really added to my magical childhood world of fairies, dragons and unicorns.
Each series of pony toys is very different. I agree that the G5 toys are great!
I find that the G1 and G2 toys are the very best for me, however, as far as the cartoon shows, they all have their merits.

It took me a long time to give G4 a chance because I agreed with many of your reasons for being put off by it, and still agree with some. For me, magical horses in any form, are very precious and meaningful. I looked past my reasons for being skeptical of G4 and can now appreciate it, but it’s not my favorite either.

That said, I absolutely adore G 5! My two year old daughter does too, and we have a lot of fun together with Make Your Mark. It’s not too scary for her, and we can let our imagination soar with the beautiful characters❤️. I appreciate that even though it’s funny and cute at times, it shows respect for itself, (if that makes sense in context to the other series. I almost felt at times that G4 was self deprecating.).
I think Izzy is one of the coolest characters of all pony time! I enjoy seeing such rich textures in the animation. I normally prefer hand drawn cartoons, but I am very pleased with the effects. The storyline is lovely and positive without being convoluted. Another great thing is that they include male characters like Hitch. I think that is very fun and inclusive to have a main character that is a boy pony with the gift of animal language.

Normally, I am very partial to more of a medieval castle type of world, or a place with a lot of mythical monsters and creatures involved in the pony stories. But with G5 you have 3 different worlds to explore and magical friendships to strengthen!

The world of pony magic is infinite and there is a place for everyone who is kind and friendly❤️

I don’t have a lot of time to participate in discussions as much as I would like to because I am always watching my little one. But I think this is a lovely place to connect with other people who appreciate the deep and special power that horses and ponies bring to our spirits and imaginations!

Yes, I too agree G5 is really trying as G4 really acted like Wonder Pets and Little Einsteins (which I have also far outgrown) by having the whole "problem is automatically solved by friendship" thing followed by "hey kids, don't do this or that" on top of everything else. Villians just suck too. Really feels like it talked down to kids :/. Also I've been exploring how MLP in general works and I've found it to be a mix between Chuck E Cheese (as they are mascots for whatever decade and CEC has some pretty dedicated collectors), Power Rangers (since there's been how many now and they're all the same lol), and Pokémon (not my cup of tea but saying this because it's existed for generations). Personally I'm starting to like G3, mainly for the art. Shows are decent, not like G5 of course, but anything is better than G4. And because of G5, I've grown into a new and different appreciation for MLP. I've loved Pixar and ponies for a long time so.......

PS: I'd like to try and get a few G1 things at some point. There's a clock I've had my eye on for a while. Just have to balance the check book though.

While I don't agree with some stuff you said about mlp g4 (as you can tell from the pfp), I'm not here to harass anyone, even though I consider myself a Brony, you are free to have your opinions, I'm free to have mine. (Also, stalkers are gross.)

I think old gens are pretty good too.
I consider Brony to be a broad term, which includes fans of old gens, but I don't force people to use it.
I also like G5, but I don't consider it as good as G4. (just my opinion that is shared by many Bronies, it is not shared by all fans of mlp.)
I think many Bronies are toxic and it got too much from the ***** culture and degeneracy. (Although it improved over time, but still not perfect.)
You have a very high expectations of shows I can tell.
If it wasn't for the G5, you would have probably described mlp as garbage.
I hope I wasn't negative, I just shared my thoughts and I also didn't share some of my opinions to not offend you. (I hate dramas)
I hope relations betwen Bronies and fans of old gens will improve.

Anyways, welcome, I hope you are doing well and will enjoy it here.^^ /)

Oh I will! But yeah man, I'm probably one of those fans that enjoys this thing more for the toys than the cartoons anyways (which have their merits). G4 really feels like a scam, seemed like Hasbro just wanted you to buy the toys which are crap quality. That and I was disappointed on how they kept re-releasing the Mane 6 over and over without giving the princesses or more mystical creatures like griffins actual toys. Heck there's one toy from the G4 movie that's a pony that wasn't even in it. And you can definitely tell they just used the same molds over and over. G5 does this better and I like how it has a set of great characters that can be translated to just about any kind of merch you can think of (I dare to say the Mane 5 are like the original Winnie the Pooh characters, which is also another longtime favorite of mine. Kinda led me to the pony world in a way.) Even G3 had higher quality merchandise despite most of the shows being.....eh (but I kinda like them in a way, not as much as my beloved G5 though).

But yeah. The G4 fanbase just makes me want to scream. I'm just very boggled on how a program that was specifically designed to sell toys got such a big following. It's not like other "girly" cartoons didn't have men enjoying (IE, Kim Possible, Powerpuff Girls) and people have been watching things outside their demographic for ages. My grandmother saw a lot of the original Walt Disney films with my late grandfather before my mother was even born if that says something. Oh well. I guess it's just a matter of different generations of people enjoying different things. Besides story driven cartoons never held my interest much, I got bored quickly. Could never get into Adventure Time or Gravity Falls even. Episodic shows work better for me, probably why MYM holds up for me on multiple rewatches. And Pixar and DreamWorks have been life long passions of mine. But MLP is MLP no matter what gen. Also.....

"My Little Pony is not separated by a cartoon, but by toys, animation only made to promote said products."

To Infinty and Beyond New Friend ;).

Not all g4 people are bad -points at self- lol
Totally agree with that! I include myself as well. /) (Although I admit I may not be the best haha, my apologies in advance.)
I actually started with g4 :)

My real roots are good plain ol horses ❤️ I didn’t want pretty colored ponies when I was younger, I wanted normal color horses lol

Po-Nay (my Oc) is Brown cause I wanted her to stand out against the rest and to link it back to my dear normal horses that I loved and still love from back in the day
Po-Nay is such a sweet and cute name! <3^^
Welcome to the MLPTP, we accept fans of all generations here! I hope you’ve managed to find our G5 thread by now. We discuss all things G5 there and share our news and findings of all things G5 there :flutter2:

I know what you mean about how the FiM fandom was back then, those type of bronies… I had problems with them too. When I first found out MLP was rebooted I think back in 2011 or 2012, the first thing I saw after the Rainbow Dash redesign was hate towards G3 ponies, my generation I grew up with, and it upset me. I didn’t want to really get involved with how that type was and the name they were giving fans. I also saw hate towards all generations before that too. It had turned a new school year and I had just started a new school. The brony scene was in full swing online. Ponies everywhere, fan art crossovers, also the kind we do not discuss here and there was a brony in my class. So, I thought I would let him know I like MLP too. I told him I have old ponies and I like the old ones and he just looked at me and blanked me. And that’s when I knew he was that kind.

I used to get teased as a kid for liking MLP by other kids my age who were also in the age range ponies were aimed at. Now I’m 24 and I don’t mind people knowing I like ponies still. This place is a wholesome place for people like us and I hope you feel comfortable here. Even if we don’t have the same opinions, we don’t go as far as what those people did to you. We don’t stand for that kind of thing. A bad experience with a past fandom gave me a really bad time that I was scared off the internet. I still have those fears so I understand, there’s no need for them to be that way to you

Again, I hope you’re comfortable with us and hope to see you about the boards! I’m sorry my reply was really long, I didn’t expect it to be so big
Exactly my thoughts! Those [REMOVED] types, I don't really like them either. [REMOVED] As a Brony, I don't agree with everything Bronies say and/or do. (Including the homophobia that was prevalent back in the early days of the fandom and still is quite popular in this fandom unfortunately.) I think there are 3 factors why this fandom specifically blew up at this specific time at a specific place:
-[REMOVED] (pretty self explanatory, learn about its lore and especially how it's related to Bronies for context.)
- irony (grown adult men watching something that is meant for pre-school little girls, children to sell toys, and treating it like a Hollywood show, biggest concert and Superbowl-type sports event combined and treating the show too seriously, because it was out of expectation, because they expected to bad, but it was great at that time, although albeit exaggerated, cause cartoons sucked at that time, so MLP was a standout.)
- Bullying (it caused the opposite effect, it's not that surprising to see many of the biggest Anti-Bronies turn out to be most passionate and obsessive and lot of times annoying Bronies later on. Also, many people wanted to be interesting and wondered why people care about this thing so much and some wanted to just simply be apart of something out of norm and/or troll, with many trolls accidentally becoming passionate fans. Some just joined cause they wanted to make people mad or become popular or something.)

If you think about points and make research, it would make a lot of sense why this got so much attention it got and not the other thing. (MLP was first thing what most people thought and think about when they think about what little girls like, so it makes sense why it wasn't the other girly show, we can say it stole the crowd from Barbie Movies, which could have had a Brony-sized following or close to it if G4 FiM wasn't good to the people at that time, including to me.) Still quite surprising.

Well hi there! *Waves*
So for full and for disclosure, I joined the My Little Pony fan community with generation four. However, I also don’t identify as a brony. because I’m not a adult male fan of G4, and because, well, I’ve been working in MLP fandom spaces as a organiser of events for almost a decade now. If you can think of something? I’ve probably seen it! A lot of my friends ID as bronies and only watch Gen 4 and that’s fine. As you said, ponies are ponies after all! :)
However, I love Gen 5. I really, really do. With G5 I’ve managed to be here from its very inception! There’s something so exciting about being here from the very start! Watching the generation grow! I’m a huge Gen 5 defender. Pipp Petals has become a character I’ve related too and had a personal connection with that’s been stronger than, well anyone. Real or fictional! She’s fantastic, I love her characterisation in the comics as well. Which if you haven’t read? I hugely recommend! It’s brought me to tears more than once now I’m happy to admit.
G5 has adapted to the modern age really well, I think Pipp is handled in a really mature way when we are living in the age of social media influencers. She displays a lot of, humanity for lack of a better term. She’s flawed and struggles but genuinely cares about the well being of her followers and fans and does her best to be a positive role model and protect them. Even when that means she needs to open up and be honest about the person behind her ‘brand’.
It’s insanely refreshing to see that. I’m someone who has a large TikTok following myself of, let’s be honest! A lot of children. I am very passionate about being serious about the responsibility that comes with a large and impressionable audience like that. I feel like, when I see, read about Pipp? I feel like she’s saying my own thoughts back to me. There’s a reason Pipp was the first character I ever felt compelled to cosplay. I’m communications and social media lead for the longest running my little pony convention, and largest in the UK. So I really am in many ways, a irl Pipp Petals! Which I revel in a lot hah!
But it’s more than just Pipp obviously! I just love any excuse to gush about her! Misty overcoming her trauma and standing up to her abuser? Gods that’s so powerful. It’s going to stay with me for the rest of my life I think. As well as the variety in body types, hair textures, designs, gradients, markings and colours. G5 is so diverse and beautiful! It really shows how jumping into a 3D space from 2D flash cartoons can really allow you to develop really amazing designs!
I also feel like the fluffy fetlocks and separate hoof feet, feels so beautifully Gen 2! A lot of the body style of G5 feels like it draws inspiration from G2! Which is so fine by me because that’s another totally under rated generation!
To be totally upfront? The main way I engage with and enjoy G4 now is via the equestria girls movies. I watch G5 and G3 all the time and those are really the only two gens I actively collect toys from as well! I have almost every release of Pipp Petals now!
I’m also a fan artist and I draw Gen 5 all the time! The detail they put into the wings is genuinely astounding! I love how they are layered, it’s so much fun to emulate and draw! Having eyebrows for giving the characters more expressions - as well as how much they emote with ears! It’s all such a massive step up! :D I also love the swirls on the unicorn horns vs the normal swirl. It makes My Little Pony stand out among generic unicorn art pieces! What I’m getting at here is.
You are NOT alone! There’s folks out here who adore Gen 5! You can and will find your people and I HUGELY suggest attending and going to non brony conventions. Find My Little Pony cons which started before Gen 4! The change in atmosphere is such a shift and it’s a very welcome one!

You are NOT alone! There’s folks out here who adore Gen 5! You can and will find your people and I HUGELY suggest attending and going to non brony conventions. Find My Little Pony cons which started before Gen 4! The change in atmosphere is such a shift and it’s a very welcome one!
Well.....I appreciate this by a LOT.

Also I was going to say something about the fact G5 actually adapted into the modern age well. Last time I saw a remake of an 80's cartoon that was designed to sell toys to little girls do this was with 2003 Strawberry Shortcake (which of we are being honest, it has a lot of similarties to G5). Yeah there's been other versions of Strawberry since, but it just that one in particular really stuck with people.

Overall I'm glad I'm not alone. Also, FiM does not even feel like My Little Pony imho. The spell wears off eventually and you see it's true colors. But yeah, I'm not a G5 purist either - mind you I grew up around G3 and I actually do collect some items from that incarnation.

(And the last time I think I saw a CGI remake of am 80's cartoon with such great detail was with Garfield (2004). IDC what critics say, that was my you know what as a kid! But seriously, G5 really digs deep into nostalgia, which is something most shows like this wouldn't do)

Yeah also not a Gen 5 purist here! I don’t think I’m a purist for any generation to be completely honest! I find joy in all of it to be upfront! :D
I also agree on what you said about the toys as well, the articulation on the G5 toys allows them so much more ways to pose and it’s fantastic!
I have very few Gen 4 toys, I’ve got a couple just of characters I like but the toys themselves? Really don’t do much for me like at all. I mostly collect the little blind bags, but I actually love the Gen 3 Ponyville toys and the G5 Mini World Magic toys as well and think they both do the? Tiny pony toy idea much better! ;D
