Are there any fans of the new G5 show/toys out there? I uh.....unfortunately need a safe space to discuss it.....

Hello all. My name is Spencer, I'm 22, and I came here as In just now getting my start on the MLP franchise in general.

Recently I have fallen in love with the new "Make Your Mark" series on Netflix and quite honestly, it is helping me heal childhood trauma as it reminds me a lot of the Shrek/Toy Story/Pixar movies I loved as a kid, plus the merchandise is....beyond amazing, and it's almost like a dream come true to me. My room has G5 stuff all over and I'm currently trying to clear old things out for more. Even have acquired a few things from G1 and G3.

However......I've been having difficulty trying to find people who are also fans to discuss with besides one or two. Yes I'm aware there is that fanbase for guys who like MLP but this is where my trouble began. I must say a few things:

1. No, I'm not a "Brony" in any shape form or fashion
2. I dislike G4 (and have my reasons to, including the quality of the toys)
3. Please do not attack me in the comments, I'm just stating an opinion after all

Those things being said, I tried going to that fanbase to find friends but.....OMG......told them Friendship Is Magic wasn't my thing, ended up having cyberstalkers and doxxers after me. I do not understand why people have to be so mean.....have been in shock for months. Was just trying to talk to dudes who like ponies because ya know, a pony is a pony no matter what gen it is.

Side note, I don't like G4 because the style is way too cartoonish, too simplistic (and honestly somewhat babyish), the toys are complete junk, basically same stuff again and again, and the show itself is a joke. The Paw Patrol style Friendship missions and the Barney level forced morals. Ugh. If those two weren't bad enough. Also became very overrated and overworked with time. Episodes/stories drag on. I already explained the fanbase to you. Has just led people down a path of ignorance like some Disney movies have. Do not understand why things have to be cult like either. Again, just my opinion.

G5 honestly feels more mature and acts like it wants to do its job right. Feels like the real deal IMHO.

Still......I know this is a small start here but anything has to be better than that cesspool of a fandom I tried to go to.

Welcome to the TP. Yes, there is definitely a thread to discuss G5 here.

Welcome to the MLPTP :) we strive at keeping this place a safe, happy pony space so you should not encounter any of that negative attacking in this community. We all have our favorite gens here and we respect each other enough to not feel the need to bash on anyone else on what they may/may not like or agree with. At the end of the day it's all MLP and we like it (besides we all know G1 is best LOL :p) but that's what makes this a chill place, everyone can love what they love and share what excites them and if others agree, cool, you got friends to chat with about it and if some aren't particularly into that gen it's no biggie they just might not have as much to contribute to the conversation but no one is going to bash on another for liking what they like around here we're all pretty friendly and just glad to chat about some ponies :)

It’s interesting to me to see someone talking highly of G5 while not liking G4. I grew up with G1, learned to tolerate G2, fell head over heels for G3, was intrigued by 3.5, but disliked G4 and stopped collecting for awhile.

My first impression of G5 is that they look predatory to me (both eyes facing forward instead of on the sides of their head) and the flat faces weird me out. However, I also haven’t seen anything regarding storylines yet so maybe I’ll check it out more before writing it off entirely.

Welcome, by the way!!

Hi! I'm sorry you had a bad experience with members of the MLP fandom. I think you found the right place, though, because in all my years of being in and out of this forum I have only ever seen positivity here! We all have our favorite parts of MLP (as a dino myself I love G1!), but the cool thing is that here is a place where you can trade what you aren't into for things that you love. It makes the thrift store treasure hunt so much more fun! At first sight, I've gotta admit that the G5 ponies look a little weird to me, but with your first post you have already left me curious about what the story is about. I am excited to find out, maybe I will end up loving G5!

Hiya and welcome to the trading post!
I'm Mintyeon! The local Mint fanatic!

My favorite generation is g3 but I love g5 Izzy to bits!
The scene where she opens that can of beans and yells "tada!" in the movie gets me every time! she's just too cute! \>o</

My favorite pony of all time and the one I'm collecting an army of is Minty!
I'm so excited to see her g5 version and can't wait to see her in the g5 show!

Another thing I was going to say that it almost reminds me of those other 80s remakes that were CGI/live action hybrid movies (à la Garfield, Alvin and the Chipmunks, etc) I also enjoyed growing up so that's yet another reason I probably enjoy it so much lol. Also.....I just want to say I tried to get into G4 back in the day. Liked it for a couple years then saw its true colors and grew out of it. Not even in its real roots either. Wasn't aware of the fanbase until recently though.

G3 (they say) was the youngest of all but after acquiring a few of the movies, it's actually quite soothing. And I've got a G1 tape I need to run through (I think G5 may be trying to be like G1 as there are a lot of similarites the original Nelvana Care Bears cartoon, which I also adore, and the two actually have a lot in common. This whole subject is another post in itself). However G4 I can't stand because it's perfect......too perfect.....and that's another thing I loathe about it. Never taught kids that friendship and signing songs won't solve your problems.

I think that one is in an exclusive set or something. Still debating on getting it.

And about the storyline, it's basically like Cars 2, Shrek 2, Finding Dory, Revenge of Kitty Galore, etc, etc, a sequel indeed better than the original and set in real time. Could even say Make Your Mark is like a New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh/What's New Scooby-Doo type show. That's how good it actually is. Definitely beats Spy Kids 2 that's for sure.

Woe betide us if they team up with that dubious dentist, Princess Rinse n Spit. ;)

I did not care for G5 when it was first announced. Their heads are still too round and humanish, the eyes too close and forward facing, and the necks are improportionately long, straight, and thin. I also can't stand the polypropylene hair or insistence on the awful core cast model.

They're not my favorite gen like 1 and 3, but they've been growing on me. And the moulded hair ones are better for customizing because I dunno how to rehair, and I'm an amateur model horse customizer.

I'd be all over the bigger ones because they have nicer manes, if it weren't for the slim pool of unique ponies. I'd like to get my mitts on Misty Brightdawn.

Overall, I rank them in the middle.

What's funny is I've been reading some forums from at least 11 to 12 years ago and it seems people had problems with "Bronies" back then even. One person even said something about a guy saying "You like G3 Pinkie Pie? You should die!" or something else awful like that. Why does it seem that they're just, oh you know, "out there" while the true MLP fans are silenced due to their noise? And uh, I don't think they understand what they're even saying when they state "G4 is the best, G1, G3, G5, etc, suck." It's like they don't comprehend the first thing about the show/franchise, which it is separated by toys and merchandise, not a cartoon.

(PS: I hear the show Bluey now has a fanbase similar to G4's with a group of people called "Bluey Adults." Why must history repeat itself? And yes, don't care for Bluey, think it's too young, you get bullied. This world man....)

Okay?? I'm a little confused on the uh... path you just took there in response.

We were not in any way silenced by the fans who choose to act toxic and immature.

And I'm not sure where Bluey comes in? Guess you could say it was "out of the blue."

The G5 Chat thread is in MLP Talk if you care to look at the toys and comics and chat with us. We're a pretty laid back and silly group. I hope you'll enjoy your time with us.

Shoot. I meant to have that as a separate comment on its own but must have accidentally hit the reply button ha ha. Anyways I go to that thread and see what's up.

Welcome in, I hope you enjoy your stay!

Not all g4 people are bad -points at self- lol

I wouldn't say I'm a G5 purist because I actually wanna get more G3 things and more G1, G2 ponies as well. MLP feels like Winnie the Pooh to me (probably my life long favorite, kinda lead me to the pony world if we are being honest), has been around forever in some form and has been enjoyed by multiple generations. Truth be told I still collect Pooh too, so much that I even have a Tigger Boat coin operated ride in my room I bought from a guy down south last year. Not joking. Either way, I totally understand you have to respect the older generations of your favorite things because that's roots. Lol.

I actually started with g4 :)

My real roots are good plain ol horses ❤️ I didn’t want pretty colored ponies when I was younger, I wanted normal color horses lol

Po-Nay (my Oc) is Brown cause I wanted her to stand out against the rest and to link it back to my dear normal horses that I loved and still love from back in the day

Truth be told I too started with G4 (but had a few of the G3 toys from McDonald's as a kid, IDK what happened to them).....it's just not as good as people make it out to be. And I too like horses in general and have been thinking about taking riding lessons again. Had to stop 10 years ago due to appendicitis :/. Overall I need to branch out more. Just difficult becuase times are tough and it's really the hardest time to try and make plans for anything really. This crazy world I swear. XD.

Welcome to the MLPTP, we accept fans of all generations here! I hope you’ve managed to find our G5 thread by now. We discuss all things G5 there and share our news and findings of all things G5 there :flutter2:

I know what you mean about how the FiM fandom was back then, those type of bronies… I had problems with them too. When I first found out MLP was rebooted I think back in 2011 or 2012, the first thing I saw after the Rainbow Dash redesign was hate towards G3 ponies, my generation I grew up with, and it upset me. I didn’t want to really get involved with how that type was and the name they were giving fans. I also saw hate towards all generations before that too. It had turned a new school year and I had just started a new school. The brony scene was in full swing online. Ponies everywhere, fan art crossovers, also the kind we do not discuss here and there was a brony in my class. So, I thought I would let him know I like MLP too. I told him I have old ponies and I like the old ones and he just looked at me and blanked me. And that’s when I knew he was that kind.

I used to get teased as a kid for liking MLP by other kids my age who were also in the age range ponies were aimed at. Now I’m 24 and I don’t mind people knowing I like ponies still. This place is a wholesome place for people like us and I hope you feel comfortable here. Even if we don’t have the same opinions, we don’t go as far as what those people did to you. We don’t stand for that kind of thing. A bad experience with a past fandom gave me a really bad time that I was scared off the internet. I still have those fears so I understand, there’s no need for them to be that way to you

Again, I hope you’re comfortable with us and hope to see you about the boards! I’m sorry my reply was really long, I didn’t expect it to be so big

Truth be told I have been getting into G3 lately and have been trying to hunt eBay for some of the stuff. Have scored a few good finds so far! But yes, it is nice to hear I'm not the only one who has had trouble with "Bronies." They don't even know the first thing about MLP which is that it's not seperated by a cartoon but by toys and the show is just made to sell them. Just like the old Fisher Price Little People videos I had growing up that featured Aaron Neville lol (I think we may still have some plus the toys around here.......grandmother never throws out anything). Have known this stuff since I was like two years old. Besides those guys don't even know what quality is and do not even get me started on how they remind me of the "GoAnimators." Don't....EVEN.

I hate to say it but I really can't do anything past G4 Friendship Is Magic and even that grinds my gears allot of the time. I had watched a little of it when it first came out and invaded the anime con scene but I didn't get very far.
I tried again recently and couldn't do past the first episode. It doesn't have enough depth for my tastes like the G1 through G3 did.
The only plus I can say about the newer series keep the fandom alive but I wish the animation was brought back to original eras.
