Anyone remember their first 'Love at first sight' moment with a pony?

Anyone remember the first time you saw a certain pony in a store, online, wherever really, and you instantly fell in love? I think it's safe to say this has happened to all of us :winkpony:
My first love at first sight moment was with G4 Cherry Berry. I went into Toys 'R' Us late one night to get a Twilight for me, and whoever for my sister. I grabbed Twilight, and right behind her was Cherry Berry. I just loved her color scheme, and her cute eyes and oh she was just so perfect. So I went back the next day and got one for myself! The same happened again with my G3 Tropical Surprise. I saw her online, and was instantly hooked. I had to have her. I have her now. She is pretty :satisfied: I'm also in love with Rainbowberry :surprisepony:
She's just so perfect and pretty looking. I hope I can get her one day... Oh, fun fact: The reason I'm posting this is because I was looking at my shelf of G3s, and suddenly out of nowhere, I fell in love with Desert Blossom. Love at 746th sight <3

I'm kind of weird in this regard. I tend to fall in and out of love with ponies at pretty much random, and most of the time I can't buy the ponies I'm in love with at a particular moment, so I end up getting over them and moving on. There's only 4 I can think of right now that were indeed a case of "love at first sight" instead of slowly realizing "hey, I actually love this pony!":

Baby Princess Sparkle. Currently my Grail pony, and the one who's been in my wishlist the longest, since I first met and fell in love with her around 20-sth years ago. Cutest princess pony EVAR.

Taffy. I'm a sucker for simple, yet effective design.

Baby Starbow. She reminded me of the early 90s so much, it's not even funny.

G3 February Violet. My birth month represented by a gorgeous pony. Me likey.

I guess that's it?

My first love at 1st sight was with A G1 Sunlight at Wal-Mart when I was about 5 or 6. I just saw the pony as was like that one that one I must have. Luckily I was very good so I got to pick out one toy under 8 dollars that night. So sunlight came home with me.

This might sound crazy but I thought sunlight was a boy to this day I can't make myself think its a girl. He was my Majesty King pony any way and Prince Cuddles daddy. LOL I had a royal group.

My only other really love at 1st sight was firefly and baby firefly they did not have them when I saw Sunlight or I might have gone gaga over her. I got her and baby firefly for my birthday.

When I started looking online to try to identify my old G1s, I came across Sugarberry for the first time. I feel in love right away. I'm a sucker for Red/Pink/Green/White combos. And strawberries. I was lucky enough to purchase one from here a couple of weeks ago. She's the only G1 in my collection, and I love her to bits!

Mine would be the Merry go ROund Ponies. I was obsessed since youth with the beautiful, hand carved antique carousel horses at the texas State Fair. I would go admire them forever every year. So seeing them in Pony form just made me swoon. Sadly mine were swiped, so now I'll have to buy more. I have Sparkler, so she's the start of my new set.

I remember when I was a child, I always looked through the little pamphlets that came with my G1s and fell in love with some of the ponies they advertised, but I was never able to get any of them. I also envied some of my friends for their ponies. But I think the only one I ever owned that I fell in love with instantly was Bridal Beauty. She was my absolute favourite of favourites, and the one I miss more than anything. Taking a look at the MLP Wiki and at Strawberry Reef to help me identify old ponies, I've also discovered a lot of others that I adore, and that's pushed me to make a new collection wantlist for G1s on top of the list of childhood ponies that I need to reclaim.

Then with G2, when they first came out, I especially adored Clever Clover and Secret Tale. I took a glance through the G2 index and added a few others to my wishlist, but none of them have quite the same appeal for me as my old G2s do. I missed G3 entirely, so I had to go look what ponies there were in that generation, and in doing so I fell in love with Marshmellow Coco, Valenshy, Periwinkle, Port-o-Bella, Twilight Twinkle and Minty. I think I fall in love with the poses first, and then with colours, so anything that's in a pose I like immediately gets my attention, then if it's a pretty colour I get drawn in completely. If it has cute accessories, that just seals it for me then and there. When I finally decided to actively collect G4s, I looked at the listings of what ponies were available other than the mane six (which you can, in fact, have too many of), and I fell in love with Blossomforth and Dewdrop Dazzle instantly. Poses aren't a thing anymore, so I go purely on colour, and those two leapt out at me.

Though I know what interests me in a pony now, I don't know what drew me to the ponies that I had when I was little. I know that a lot of them were gifted to me, and some of them I had before I could even remember getting them. But I also remember that back then, when I had the choice, I went on instinct with every pony I asked for. Now I have a tendency to pore over my options and take a long time to decide which ones I actually want. I also don't stick to a lot of my decisions for more than a week or two, and end up going back and revising my wishlists.

I've become very picky, especially with quality control (I stand for 15 minutes in the shop picking through boxes and eyeing G4s for factory errors before I buy them), and I never grab something on impulse. I guess it's not as easy anymore because, as adults, we finally understand concepts like "affordability", "price vs. value", being "on a budget" etc. that as children we were happily oblivious of. Back then we just wanted everything our little eyes saw. Of course, it's different when you collect toys that are currently on shelves than it is when you collect secondhand vintage ponies, because with G1s you're more likely to take what you can get. But even then, when you don't get lucky enough to find a jewel or even a big lot at the charity shop, you sit and compare prices, scrutinize eBay listings for unmentioned flaws, calculate shipping and handling costs, and debate whether you're able to afford snatching that wanted item, or if you should save up for a rare or grail pony. It's hard being a grown up!

Ummmmmmmmmmmm...........I think it was G1 May Lily of the valley....May is my birth month........ I REALLY love the collectors pose. She was a combonation of both so, naturally..... I wanted her.

First one was the playful pony line Rainbow Dash. First official, non McDonald's toy of my favorite character I'd ever seen (had just gotten into the show a few months ago) so I was like "Ooo...". I was just looking though, I didn't have much money then. I believe my mom walked over (was helping her with grocery shopping). She bought me two RD brushables & a few blind bags. :$ I love those particular ones~

But my first one based on sight alone was the apple fritter blind bag. I loved her color!!! I debated over not buying a pony that wasn't really in the show (which is what I say to myself to avoid buying up entire sets XD) & then she appeared in the show! So I went back & grabbed the last one lol.

Before becoming a collector, while hanging out at a pony meet wIth DB, I saw g3 Midnight Dreams. She wasn't for sale, though, and I went on an ebay hunt soon afterwards. :)

My best friend got me into G1s (the first ponies to catch my eye) and I think the first one I ever really looked at properly was Dancing Butterflies. I quite liked her although it wasn't "love at first sight", and it was her twice-as-fancy symbols that did it for me. So I was told about the TAF ponies and I trundled off to have a look.

:ponylove:

There she was, my love-at-first-sight pony! Merriweather. <3 I love purple, and I love rainbows, and she has such pretty yellow hair. Plus her name is adorable. I would so name a pony that in real life!

And, well... now I have four Merriweathers, and I'm always looking for more to adopt. :)

Snuzzle! She was one of the first G1s I ever saw, on a great website (ponylandpress.com). That same website inspired me to start collecting in the first place. :smilepony: It was most certainly love at first sight! I still don't have her though, even though she's not that hard to get :-(

One problem I have is "love at first sight" with foreign, hard-to-obtain ponies. Most of said ponies are hard or even impossible for me to obtain so that just makes it all the more difficult!

Hopscotch and Baby Hopscotch. I was never terribly interested in them, then I saw them in person at a pony meet and HAD to have them. That color combo! :shockpony:

I agree with Ology, some ponies just look male even if you know they are female. I had that problem with TE Sweetstuff:LOL: still think of her as a boy! And my Sunlight, that one also looks like a boy:LOL:
Anyway, my first love at first sight was baby Moondancer! I know she is consedered a common pony and everyone exept me has one and sometimes even more than one:sadpony: but I love the Glory pose, and Moondancer has the soft colouring to go with her inocent face:smilepony: otherwise, I'm over the moon about any twice as fancy baby pony, cutest little things EVER! And I'm so sad that they didn't make baby ones of all the TAF ponies:cry2:

I saw Fun Fairy in 'Kimono's Townhouse' and just had to have her. The same happened with Pumpkin Tart. I love her colours. She's so very halloween-y. :winkpony:

More recently though I saw a G1 Painting Time and fell completely in love.

I think my first fall in love head over heels was Chief. My cousin had him and I spotted him in her box and started playing with him. (I use to think he was a girl) I brought him all over the place that summer until we went back home and I had to give him back. To this day when I see him my heart skips a little!

When I first started collecting ponies the first one on my list to search for was Sugarberry, I knew it had strawberries all over the pony but I wasn't sure what her name was. Finally I found a guide online and started looking throughout the whole guide. When I finally found Sugarberry, I was so happy. After that of course I looked through my guide book when I purchased mine off of Amazon and kept buying other ponies that I knew I had to have!! There's so many beautiful ponies out there and I strongly believe the pony we love secretly speaks to us in their own special way! It's like their begging for us to buy them so we can share the love we had with them when we were a child! And of course for the ones who just started collecting, they'll speak to them as well. Ponies would never leave anyone out. Deep down I'm a big daydreamer and I always used to Daydream about the Pony land. You may think I'm crazy but I speak to them as well, lol and tell them how lovely they look. I love all the ponies I collect: each one is unique in their own way. :ponylove:

It just makes me feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only one who talks to my Ponies, forms little families and alliances and interacts with them. I love you guys!

At least if I'm kooky, i'm in great company!
