Any Transactions you could just shoot yourself in the foot over?

I just found my old transaction log that I've been keeping since 2000 and was shocked at what I found. When I was first starting out I was not very aware as to how valuable a couple of ponies I had were. I made some stupid mistakes and lost them into the abyss. One of which was when I was scammed by *Brooke* from Florida. I know many of you have had dealings with her in the past. I lost a baby princess sparkle to her. *shakes fist*I was supposed to be getting Munchy. The other one was a stupid trade. I traded away my L'Il Tot for a meager Happyglow and Barnacle. :weird:

Have there been any transactions you could just shoot yourself in the foot over?
That if you had to do it over again you would change?

Yes,

When I first joined here (years ago now) I didn't realise that G2 ponies had any real value. A member traded me a MOC G2 Silver Glow for Daisy Jo G3 MIB.

It was only later that I realised what a terrible fool I had been.

Sometimes learning is hard, but it still hurts a bit that someone would take advantage of a newbie that way.

Yep, not a whole lot, but a handful.

There was a time when I started to thin my G1 herd, trying to keep only the ones I really, really liked, and I traded off - not even sold, but traded my Princess Tiffany, Peppermint Crunch, and Lavender Lace. I want them back, I now really regret that- it's not that they were bad deals at all, I just regret doing it. Two of those I traded for some G2s and accessories, and I like them but I kind of wish I hadn't done that because the G2s don't mean much to me.

Luckily i've been walked into the world of collecting, by the person who became my best friend in real life (LovelyTickle) and who was already a very skilled collector^_^
There's only one trade i regret, but i have not lost anything.
I've traded a perfect italian collector pose Sparkler for 5 or 6 ( i don't remember, it was like 6 years ago) moc ponies.
I still miss him (yes in Italy he was a him), even if i've replaced him with another one^_^'
M!

I can't really think of any! I've bought tons of ponies I don't really care for just to complete sets and I wish I had just bought the ones I really want first and worry about completing sets after.

There are countless ponies I remember seeing for cheap on eBay a decade ago, that I wish I had bought.

I made another gargantuan "oopsie!" when my parents bought me a MOC Surprise Twins Pony, and I opened it! If I could just go back in time, and stop myself! Uuugh!

It kills me now the most that I became a MOC pony collector.

The only thing I regret is that I used to see ponies all the time at garage sales, and never bought any. To think all the jewels that I probably passed up. Now I never see G1's at garage sales. :(

Yeah. And it still burns me.
A whole bunch of members never got their stuff from this seller, who was at the time a popular member of the community... but when we all finally got together to say "Hey, did anybody else get their stuff..? What's going on?" she said it was all of our faults for not having asked for insurance because Texas post loses stuff all the time.
But, after telling us we were at fault because we all somehow should have magically known Texas post loses things all the time so insurance was practically necessary (*foams at the mouth* HOW would we have known that? If SHE knew that why did she never mention it to us before??), she so graciously offered to make mine up to me somehow because we had traded while most other folks just bought stuff outright...
and she made it up to me by promptly vanishing and never responding to me again.

*grumbles*

Way back when I first started collecting I had gotten a Princess Moondust in a really cheap lot. Her only flaw was a small red mark on one side, she even had her ribbon. BUT I didn't want her so I traded her for Tiffany who I really, really wanted. What bummed me out was that the other person didn't clean Tiffany (she was DIRTY) and she had some pen marks that hadn't been mentioned. I don't think I would have regretted the trade so much if Tiffany had been in better shape :p

I've been also scammed a few times; if I had only followed my first instincts/ asked for referemces I wouldn't have bothered with those sales.

For me it would be overpaying for some ponies that I bought at auctions. I entered a huge number on impulse but the later on I saw a buy it now option on the same pony for half price that I paid for but at least I still got the ponies. I was scammed before for buying some anime figures on an online store using a money order, that was the last time that I ever used a money order since there is no buyer protection plan.

Yep, at the beginning of my collecting I became friends with someone who sold me ponys for hundreds of pounds at a time, when I look at some of them now and thier faults I wonder whytf I thought she was my friend. I was scammed left right and centre alot of times from people who thought it was ok to do that to a newbie, it had the knock on effect of making me very bitter towards people in the community, the best thing is not to dwell, I'm older now and I mostly have the collection I want so I tend to sit back and not let things bother me now, but the scrabble at the beginning from people who thought of me only in Pounds and pennies is really nasty.
I also have WONDERFUL trade buddies now, like the lovely Kar, Momo, Lhati and I try to buy from reputable people from ebay like Binky...it a much nicer enviroment when you stick to people who care about you :bighug:
