I was looking at my G1s recently and I was wondering, who had them before me? They were well loved and I was thinking, who played with them first?

I grew up with G3. When I played with my ponies I spread them out around the floor, like I did with all my toys. (I was spoilt >.<) Sapphire Shores was the queen. She was special because of her jewel symbol and she could breathe underwater. I can't see why my starcatcher wasn't my favourite-She's gorgeous!
I also had that large pony disco thing that came with Twinkle Twirl. I remember playing with it and using the accessories more then the set and because of this I still don't have all the accessories.
I had a Lanard fakie set. It came with a mum, a baby and a carriage. The carriage had a window at the back. The mum and baby used to give ponies lifts if they wanted them. I used to jam the baby at the back so she could look out the window. I don't actually remember giving the ponies lifts, and now I think about it the carriage would have been to small for a G3 adult and I didn't have any babies.
I think I watched the VHS that came with Starcatcher, the case is worn and the magnetic tape stuff is on the wrong side so I must have done...

I remember opening two ponies-one was Sunny Daze. My baby sister 'gave' it to me. (Well, she was a baby at the time). She was the one with the outfit, and recently I have been looking for the missing clothes downstairs-they must be somewhere!
Another was a large G3 baby plushie. I remember she was the biggest gift and I wanted to open her so badly. This was a few days before Christmas and there were gifts under the tree (I don't know why-we've never done this at home!) I asked my mum and she said she'd call santa. He said yes and I got to open the pony. Despite finding my entire childhood collection I haven't found her yet >.>
(Actually, typing this out I suddenly remembered opening another, Starswirl. She was bought from Woolworths I believe and I remember choosing her out and carting her out the shop ^-^)
((Bam I remembered another! I visited someone in hospital when I was a child (I don't know who though) and I remember opening a fakie the next day at home. I managed with the twisty ties all by myself (I was chuffed ). She came with beads for her hair and I remember not caring for those at all and just wanting the pony. I don't know what happened to her either, I'm curious now!))

I asked my mum why I had a lot of my little ponies and she said that they were cheap and she didn't mind spending a couple of pounds on a pony as it was a good price for one.

If you didn't get bored with all this then can I ask if anyone else has any stories?

It's always sweet to hear how loved ponies were and are =)

I grew up with the G1's and loved mine dearly. I played with them all the time, however I don't have too many memories that sticks out. Only two really.

I remember when I was really young, like 4 or 5 maybe, and my mother was teaching me how to do braids. The testsubject for that was my Lemon Drop and her tail XD

I also remember taking them all with me (we're talking buildings such as the Bonnet School Of Dance and Show Stable) on the vacations we used to make every summer to a cabin in the woods and how I forced my uncle to play with the ponies with me in the grass outside the cabin XD
Looking at my ponies and building now that always went with me I'm amazed that they show no wear what so ever o_O

Other than that I just played with them all the time. Barbie was my substitue for Megan as I didn't have her XD and I watched the movie and show religiously :p
It's those loving memories of my ponies and how they ment the world to me as a child that made me a collector :)

I grew up with the tail-end of the G1s (I wasn't born until 1988 so I missed quite a bit). I remember getting my first two ponies for Christmas one year (Baby Starbow and Firefly with the Firefly's Adventure movie) and I absolutely loved them! I have been hooked ever since. Those two ponies went with me absolutely everywhere. I remember when I was very young I watched an old western movie with my grandpa and decided to take wax crayons and put marks all over my two ponies so that they would look like the Native war ponies from the movie. I still have these two and they are not in great shape (I was able to get most of the crayon off but there is still remnants of it to remind me) but it shows how much I really did (and still do) love them! I would like to eventually get replacements that are in better display condition but I will never let these two originals go.
I think it is wonderful to still have some of you original ponies. It is great to be able to look at them and remember what started your love for mlp and the impact they had on your child hood :smilepony:

I grew up with G3 as well, and they were definitely my favorite toys. I think I liked them so much because I was never a doll person. I remember playing with them in the living room with my sister. They all lived in various places around the room, on chairs, end tables, etc. The Cotton Candy Cafe was the coffee table, since I didn't have the actual playset, and Princess Peppermint lived on the couch, since she was the leader of Ponyville (I don't remember her job having an actual title, not even princess). And each pony had a job and/or a place in a rather structured society, which in hindsight was kind of weird for two girls playing with plastic ponies.

I remember they all took on various aspects of my personality, too. Cotton Candy was my friendly, hardworking, and benevolent side, Port-O-Bella was sarcastic, quick-witted, and cynical, and Shenanigans was lazy and irresponsible. My sister did the same thing, so we always had plenty of contrasting personalities to play with. Looking back on it, I was surprised they became as dynamic as they did.

I also took them in the car and to various other places. One of my most specific memories was when my sister and I brought Shenanigans and Toola Roola (the first one) outside to play in the snow. We had a great time, but then we forgot them outside. I wanted to go back out, but it had started to snow really hard again and my mom wouldn't let me go out and get them. Needless to say I was pretty upset.

Anyway, those are my memories. If anyone actually read that... wow XD

the only thing I remember about mlp as a little kid (maybe 6 or 7?) was not liking it and that my dad asking if i wanted one... i always said no (I thought mlp was for girl and for girls only)...the reason he said that was because i likes horses (totally different thing).... OH THE G3S I COULD OF HAD!!! now, when i do ask for some, he says no.....

Oh boy... where do I begin...

well, I was born in 1984. Right when the generation 1 hype was going strong.

My mom, actually, started buying them for me when I was probably around 2 or 3 years old... she almost kind of collected them for me.

But man I was addicted to them. I did not object to her collecting them for me... I watched the original cartoon on T.V. every day as well, and mimicked my play with the pony figurines a lot like that of the adventures in the cartoon series.

Every day I'd grab a select set of ponies, and act out adventures with them... I had to carry so many, I bundled them all in my hands by their tails. I'd walk around with these clusters of ponies in my hands until I got to the part of the house where I wanted to play with them.

Unfortunately I did go through a weird phase when I was about 8 years old where I mimicked the episode where some of the ponies were "aged" and got gray hair and wrinkles... so I drew wrinkles on the pony's faces with permanent ink, and cut their manes and tails off thinking they'd "grow back on their own"... xDD

(Poor Posey, I've regretted doing that to you, ever since.) :winkpony:

...also could have been confused as my first indication of becoming a pony customizer.

I remember playing with mine and I kept them in a red plastic basket but would get them out and I had dozens! My mom got a bunch of the big brother ponies so my big brother would play with me.
I also remember having a my little pony puzzle probably around 1989 or 1990, one of those ones for little kids with like 16 pieces. So fun. Lol.

Lol. I STILL do this!!!:CC:

I'm one of the oldie moldies. I was born in '77, so have seen all the gens. My very first pony (and I had been begging for one for a long time) was a Blossom stuffy. Yep, the big stuffed ones. She got toted everywhere, and became the basis for my childhood collection - which grew to dozens and dozens of ponies before too long. In my memory I had about 100... but we know how childhood memories are. ;) So I'm guessing it was closer to sixty or so. LOL

My room was a little different than many peoples. I had two built in loft beds with closets under them. One had a mattress and is where I slept, and one I called Dream Valley. It's where all the buildings were set up and the ponies resided. Whenever I was done playing, I had to set them all up so that it looked like they were in the middle of some activity or outing. I'd have hated for someone to walk in and see them and NOT think it was a thriving community.
Even though I had the castle and Majesty - she did not rule over Dream Valley. Princess Apple Jack was the monarch in my little pony world. She was kind, and fair (and not a klutz like she was in the show). She was the most beautiful of the ponies and everyone loved her as much as she loved them.

My two best friends also had quite a few ponies (not as many as I did - they had more of other things), so Apple Jack was usually the only pony who would get dragged on playdates (which weren't called playdates back then). I would just play with their collections when I was at their houses, and they'd play with mine at my place. I was always pretty charismatic and could talk people into almost anything... so Apple Jack ruled everywhere. :satisfied:
And now? Now my daughter has her own pony collection. Dozens of G3s and G4s (even a few G1s, which she feels are extra extra special). And you got it! I built her a loft bed - though it's not built into the wall like mine were. She sleeps UNDER the loft, and up on top? It's Ponyville. With buildings, castles, and all her ponies. Where she can make all the same wonderful memories with her ponies that I have with mine.

I've said it many, many, many times over, and you'll hear (or read) it from me on many more occasions too: There really is NOTHING like sharing something you love with someone you love. And you can quote me on that. :smilepony:

I was born in 1981 so pony and me had a good starting time. I remember waking up to watch the show before I got ready for school with my sister.

I kept my pony in a pink dress up truck and I remember my sister and her friend asking to play with them. I said yes but warned them about if they did something to them or lost them. My sister and her friend were kind of too scared to play with them. They took the box looked at it for about a hour and brought it back. Saying we did not want to make you mad.

I was kind of over protective of my ponies and other toys lol. Bathtime was the time when I played most with them I loooooved sea ponies.

omg that sounds so rad ^/////^

And lol Far Dreamer! I also have adult customers that buy character customs of mine for the purpose of acting out their favorite video games and animes. :)

I think I did that throughout my teen years... <//////< I felt old for imaginary play, but you know... it's always awesome. I like hearing about what my customers do with my customs~

I acted out mysteries and soap opera dramas with my G3 ponies! Toola-Roola (the second one) was my favourite, so she was always the plucky girl detective or mediator when married ponies had domestic disputes.

Most of the mysteries involved murders, although one time Rainbow Dash stole Wisteria's shoes.

I had a Breezie, and she was the baby pony in the pony families. Since I hadn't any boy ponies, the girl ponies married each other. I don't think I had any stable (pardon the pun) married couples; I kind of just married and divorced the couples at will.

Well, one of my fondest memories has to be shopping at Toys R Us with my grandma for new ponies. I was born in 1977, so my shopping days were spent on G1's.

I used to make houses out of cardboard boxes.... cut out windows, glued pieces of fabric for curtains, used Barbie furniture for the furnishings, etc. I would go over to my friend Heather's house and play ponies. We would write newsletters and had a whole Ponyland thing going. She had Crumpet, who I STILL want as a grail.

I got my first REAL pony playset in a garage sale at my school. It was the front-door-less Show Stable. :) I used it more as a pony container.... when they said STABLE, I took it literally! "One man's trash is another man's treasure!" -- was the motto for the garage sale.

My brother got to buy the Big Brother ponies in order to play with me. I eventually inherited them, but they need replacing now.

I went through some old family photos this weekend while I had the holiday off and found out that I had a birthday party with MLP hats, plates, napkins and a MLP tablecloth! I spent the morning at Wal-Mart scanning in a good amount of these family pics, including those, so I'm anxious to share them. As is the way with me, I'm getting behind in my photo sharing here!

Also, certain ponies were always swimming in our pool or bathing with me. :) (No wonder some are faded or rusty!) LOL....

I grew up with G1 ponies and I have many, many memories of playing with my favorite ponies and taking them to school for my friends to check them out. It was wonderful.

I had a huge wedding ceremony between Bride and Windy. My mother made a cape for Windy and I had all the ponies accompany them in a procession. We took pictures that I still have.

Another fond memory is of my friends and I forming a 'Pony Club'. The very first friend I ever had loved ponies as much as I did and we bonded through that. During a birthday his little sister stole my Bride and kept her for months on end until he found her and brought her back.

I remember my father buying Baby Moondancer even though I must have been 3 at the time.

i was born in 81 so i grew up with the g1s. when i was little i had ponies, but was more into strawberry shortcake dolls. it wasnt until i met my best friend who loved ponies too that i had someone to play with. we would play with our ponies a lot at her place more than mine. we had some fun times. when the time came that my little sister was old enough to play with, we would play with our ponies. we even came up with some new names for a few of our ponies (not knowing what their real names are), i still remember what we called them, but not too sure she does anymore.

i can still remember a few ponies where they came from or who gave them to me. there is a good chunk of ponies i got through a friend, my older sisters friend. they became friends through aol, she is younger than me and grew up with ponies too, but she out grew them and was willing to sell me her collection. i cant remember all that i got from her, but there are a few i do know. others are from ebay or buying/trading from the mlp community. i dont see many ponies or any g1 ponies at thrifts stores. so i am not sure if any of mine are from thrift store except for one that i had to save enough though she is in horrible condition.

I remember watching My Little Pony when I was still in my crib back in the late 80's. I still remember what movie it was. Rescue at Midnight Castle :satisfied::smilepony:

I would play with my ponies and act out the movie with what I had. Aaah. Fun times and memories.

Oh, so many memories. I took almost all my ponies in the bathtub or pool with me. I didn't care, I wanted them to be at the seaside or the lake or something I guess. I should probably go home and clean all my childhood ponies, because it has never occurred to me to check them for rust or other nastiness. They're not on display, so...

Barbie was always some sort of evil overlord who kept ponies enslaved in her Fold & Fun House. SS Buttons usually led a small band of free ponies in the rescue efforts. My ponies also often battled several Power Rangers MegaZords. I never had Dream Castle or the PE or Show Stable or anyplace for my ponies to "live," so they often lived in the She-Ra castle, though I don't ever recall playing with the dolls and ponies at the same time. I don't think I took any ponies outside very often, unless they were going in the pool with me. I was never allowed to bring them to school or out shopping.

And to this day if I do not get a pony cake for my birthday I sulk for weeks.
