I was having one of those terrible, no good, very bad weeks; the kind where getting up in the morning was a chore, and going to bed at night was another long battle with insomnia. Things downright sucked, school-wise (I'm in my final year in university and preparing my fine art thesis project and batting heads with the art establishment over it - don't ask, you don't want to know, and I WILL tell you...)

Anyways, I needed a pick-me-up, and what's better then stopping into the local Value Villiage on the way to class? Though OF COURSE, you NEVER find anything, so it was more a carless whim then anything else. I still had a few momments to spare, so in I went.

The toy isle was full; it looked as though I was in luck, at least they had stocked recently. I looked through the bags absent mindedly, carfully manovering around the lady and her big cart which was parked right in front of the racks. It was all the usual suspects, McD's toys and barbie dolls and random uninteresting action figures dejour...and then

... and then...

... HAIR.

You know it, you know it when you see it, you know every pony collector is looking for it when we're checking bags. You know in all reasonbility it could just belong to some funky doll or heaven forbid a fakey, but you gotta dig it out anyway, you gotta find where it's coming from... and...

..and...

... and it was PONY HAIR!

There was a bag of ponies, a BAG OF PONIES! Not just one pony in a bag, as has so often been the case and so far and few between, but a FIVE PONIES IN A BAG!

I could hardly believe it as I turned them over and over in my hands, allready rushing towards the cash as my street car was visably rumbling down the street towards my stop. I paid my money and got there in time, and found a seat. Then I began to look at the ponies again...

the first one....

GLORY!
pony1.jpg

Glory! Of course, becuase everyone needs a token Glory to add to the others in thier trade bin. Becuase you need hoards of Glories so they can start there own sect, and wage war against the hoards of SS Buttons that also seem to mulitpling. But at least it was a pony. And she had company. It was....

....

...

... GALAXY!
pony2.jpg

Becuase, every little girl loves pink unicorns, and you can't get pinker and lovilier then a Galaxy. She's a nice pony, even if she dosn't take a good scan. I suppose we can't all be photogenic...

.... next in the bag...

....

oh!

....

... BONNIE BONNETS!
pony3.jpg

Wow, how did this happen? A typical run-of-the-mill pair of ponies in typical "well loved" condition, and here, swimming in the bag is a near-mint TAF? Look at those curls! Really, that's an odd find, purely on the grounds of chance.... but wait... who's the next pony.....

....

...

eep!

...

....

... it's HOPSCOTCH!
pony4.jpg

Okay, now I'm dumbfounded! I've never found a "forgine" pony at a thrift shop, in all my years and years and years of collecting. Never! And like Bonnie, she's in nice condition. Lovely! Now what are the odds of that?! When you consider the odds of finding any pony, it's pretty astounding. And wait, there's one more....

....

... oh, look, she's wearing a dress, how cute :p

...

she's off white, rainbow hair, AH-HA! it MUST be UK Confetti, to go with the Hopscotch, that would make sence, huh? I mean, after finding theses ponies ANYTHING would have to be possible...

...

.... wiat....

.... her feet are pink?

... and they say....

.... Italy?

...

.... eek!!!

It's ITALIAN PARASOL!!!
pony5.jpg

That's right, and that's that! Five ponies in a bag, and one of them even turned out to be Italian. Go figure; I know I can't, lol!

They all need bath, but I will have fun doing that this weekend. What a great find. The Italian is definatley a keeper, but the others should go up for grabs as soon as I get them tidied up.

This just goes to prove that ANYTHING is possible when you walk into a thirft shop, included a bag of five ponies - including a TAF, a UK, and an Italian - and all for $2.99.

The pony gods are smiling :)

Where the heck do you live gal O___o;

I've -never- found thrift store ponies.. let alone ones from other countries!

Wow. Awesome score! How much were they? :>

Oh I am so jealous of Hopscotch! What a bargain you got :D That Bonnie is lovely, I have a soft spot for her because she was my first pony way back when :p

Woah!! That is the first lot I have seen that I have actually exclaimed out loud about!! You got a fantastic deal there!! If it were me i'd keep all of them just because they were such a bargain, as a sort of good luck charm!

Wow..! That's what I call luck! Huge congrats! You must be VERY happy! :D

That is just way too awesome!congrats!Maybe i'll randomly stumble upon Italian ponies in the non existant thrift stores around here.... :?

What a wicked cool pick me up!

How brilliant! You're so lucky! What a find! I bet that made you feel better :D

Wow! I'll have to go thrifting in Toronto more often.

P.S. will you be at the toy show next sunday?

OH wow! That's some great luck. I live in Canada too, and I once found 2 italians at a flea market. I've always wondered how they ever got over here. Weird eh?

!

Wow, the only foreign pony I ever found at a thrift shop here is UK McDonald's Ivy..heh.. That is an awesome find, I exclaimed out loud too on that one!

How funny, LW! Great find indeed!
And two foreign ponies in a Canadian VV...Oh, if they could only talk

I know, I know! I've found a few UK pony "items" from time to time (mostly books and the like) but these were my first ponies. I suppose some lucky little girl must have had some aunts abroad!

PS - who's that adorable horsey in your avatar? *G*

My little neighbourhood VV, go figure! I must have beat the ebayers there this time :D

(grin) That's a Thoroughbred gelding I sold. His new mommy is a 14 year old up near Owen Sound. I do have a new horse now though (which makes a grand total of 2!), and there are photos in the Friends Discussion board. Shes' beautiful :)
