This is probably on everyone else's list of "common sense" but...
Always make sure your container is clearly labelled, tightly sealed and as far away from small things as possible when in use. Six years ago I had an acetone related incident in a chemistry lab. The bottle it was in was typically used for water, and when I saw a label reading "acetone" I picked it up and sniffed it to make sure. I haven't smelled ANYTHING in 6 years(not to mention the burning, gagging, and gasping for air-I didnt take a big sniff either, just a little one).
So, keep your acetone away from curious dogs, cats, children, spouses, etc.
