Inspired by a thread about Christmas ponies, I wrote this in a fit of silliness. Mods please lmk if there's a better forum for it!
Ahem...
T'was the year ninety-eight, and we were all set
for our first Christmas solo. Our parents did jet
to visit some family and mayhap the elves,
so my brother and I had the place to ourselves.
We cleaned up the house, and we set up the tree,
and cranked up some holiday songs on CD.
"We'll make a fine dinner! The halls we shall deck.
Let's get out the deco! But wait, what the heck?"
For nary a light string nor garland nor bow
could be found in the closets. We searched high and low!
We looked at each other and let out a huff.
"What could we set out that's 'Christmas' enough?"
I considered the various things that I owned
'til some toys came to mind I thought I had outgrown!
Into the crawlspace I hauled my teen hide
to seek out a box with old treasure inside.
And when I emerged like a diver for air,
I opened its lid, and look who was there!
A Merry-Go-Round and a Perfume Puff Pony,
and one of my newborn twins! Big Top? Or Toppy?
Skydancer! Princesses Starburst and Misty!
Two floaties, but only one Sea: Water Lily!
Parasol! Spike! Some accessory things!
Bow-Tie, and Megan, and two Summerwings!
My wee Sugarberry and dear Tux 'n' Tails,
whom grandma had helped me to order by mail!
And finally out came the effort's whole reason:
a pony with colors just right for the season!
A gleaming white unicorn, symbols a-glitter..
Her green and red hair made my heart pat-a-pitter.
Gusty's sweet smile from up on the mantle
gleamed of the season like glow from a candle.
The rest were so precious, I thought it a shame
that I couldn't remember quite all of their names!
So onto the Web with a dial-up squeal
I went to research, and my fate was soon sealed.
A happy one, that, of collecting, and friends!
Many ponies to all! May the fun never end!
