Let's hear some hot takes!

My hot take: Starlight Glimmer is a terrible character, even after her "redemption" arc. Aside from leading a literal cult, she continuously uses magic to remove other ponies' free will and manipulate them. Seems like a very weird choice for her to get a redemption arc over any of the other, more likeable villains.

My hot take: Hasbro is clueless regarding Pony media. Pony could be much more monolithic then it is. Whatever one thinks of G4, it provided the opportunity to cement more respect of the line. I feel like Hasbro is squandering that.

By this time, there should be at least 3 shows, sort of the way Star Wars, etc. are doing: one for very young viewers, one like the cgi G5 for a titch older, then one for longtime fans that's darker, more adventure-filled and with (IMO) a more anime style (like Rescue at Midnight Castle -- though even more so).

I really think Hasbro squandered the opportunity to make something new with G5. Idk, maybe it'd grow on me if I gave it another chance. But it feels like it is to much in the shadow of G4. Plus they just kept pushing the flat face bobble head designs. At some point it stops being a pony and starts being a human headed horse. I honestly would've rather had anthro dolls lol

Maybe Hasbro is too scared to leave G4 completely in case it won’t get as big for them as G4 did. Piggyback off the previous gen. Maybe to them, G4 is the most recognisable generation of the modern day and with how huge it got, they don’t want to leave it all behind in case they lose the fans they got from G4

I feel the same, I remember I disliked G4 when it first came out but then loved it a few years later... However, after rewatching the show a couple of years ago, I was sad and surprised to find I only enjoyed very little about the show! I get the feeling it was always a thing I liked just to have something to like, and to fit in with a fandom... I still like a few things about G4 though such as Rarity and Apple Bloom.

Then again, the same thing happened with G5 for me, I loved it with every fiber of my being and was seen as one of G5's biggest supporters but then it disappointed me more than any other fictional thing ever has haha. And people said the newest batch of episodes is excellent but I tried skimming it and Zipp and Hitch irritate me too greatly plus the animation, expressions, dialogue etc "annoy" me somehow... Is this how parents feel when they watch little kids' shows like Peppa Pig?? Am I becoming a boring type of adult??? Yet I still like lots of other little kids' shows, and love A New Generation and the Maretime Bay video game.

Anyway today's hot take is that Twinkle Wish Adventure is one of the best MLP media and the G3.5 Core Seven is the best main cast MLP has ever had--in my opinion at least!
Enjoying 3.5? Now that's a hot take. They look. They just... look. Like that. And I don't find that very appealing, but I love that you enjoy 3.5 as much as you do. I've never given 5 a chance, and I don't think that's ever going to happen. I would like to have Minty from the Rainbow Celebration release, her hair is amazing but it's not enough to receive all of the other toys, and that's the only release I've really liked? I've kinda been ignoring 5 tbh.

That is why they fail. G4 is vastly over-hyped. Most kids don't want 50 of the same toy. The show is average and didn't break any new ground, the main cast did not have a single unique character that hadn't been taken and mutated from another gen. Most of them are G3s anyway. The toys are poor quality.

But Hasbro refuses to let go because it's the generation that let them be extremely uncreative and lazy while still turning a profit.

Gen 5 continues that trend of laziness, which is a shame, because for just a brief shining moment, it looked like something new finally.

Little kid me didn’t like having duplicates of same characters from things because “I already got a [name] for this game, why would I need another? I can’t have two there should only be one, there’s only one [name]”

Even now I don’t like duplicates. Yes, I may have four G4 Pinkies but my choice to get those is based on designs instead. If she looks unique enough then from another, fine I’ll take it, but I want them to go back to having a nice huge range of different characters and designs, not [name] mk. 7

And seriously, Hasbro still hasn't gotten the memo. Outside of Jazz, and Pipp, I have never seen anyone but Sunny and Moonbow being sold by themselves in stores. They're either sold in packs or online. It's ridiculous.

At least HQG1C and Basic Fun have been giving us new things.

G5 is dead at my store, they've even filled in the place where ponies once were with random dolls, I think once they clear out the ones in the clearance stuff I probably won't be seeing anymore of them.

In my town's toystore, they rarely had My little Pony for years. If you ask for them, they ask if you mean Filly ponies

I've never had any when they were new but, I don't care for the look of original flutter pony wings. Especially the shape. I like people's beautiful custom wings way more. So many creative people out there. Wish mine looked as detailed.

If they were more difficult to make and I hadn't started winging my own flutters, I'd definitely have bought some of the lovely insect wings from ShadowontheMoon.

Doesn't ShadowontheMoon also make replacement bandanas? I wonder if anyone (reading) has bought those or the wings can review quality.

I like the original flutter wings, but they were so fragile. The design was to make them flap, but the slight bending and narrow insert tab caused them to tear so easily. Simply widening the tab and thickening could have made them last longer. I also think they're proportionally small and many custom wings look too small, too.

I made my first pop bottle replacement wings when I was around 4. The flutters came out less then a year before and those wings broke off soon after I got them.

My random throught the other day. I don't remember my Wind Whistler with pink hair. She faded before I was remembering much. That means Hasbro kept using fading pink knowing the dye faded quickly.. Why didn't they improve it or replace it in design with another pink? They encouraged kids to collect but made a temporary product.

I have no idea if Shadow makes bandanas?

I mean I do love me some Filly ponies, so I wouldn't mind, but I understand the frustraion.

I went to Ollie's yesterday, which is a store in the northeast U.S.. It's a huge store that buys all the things that don't sell from other stores (great deals). They had so much G5 stuff I can't even tell you. I've never seen so much Pony collected together all at the same place. It was mostly Sunny and Izzy stuff. In fact, I'm not sure I saw any other ponies but them ...but TONS of them.
