Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere else, but someone was asking on a different thread what the Core 7 was, so I thought I would describe in detail for those that don't know.
In 2007, Hasbro decided to limit its production of new ponies to seven core ponies/personalities: Cheerilee, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, Starsong, Toola-Roola. Most all of the releases since then have been those Core 7, however some past characters have been re-released in the new Core 7 poses. For example, in Winter 2008, Minty was re-released. So far, Minty is the only non-Core 7 pony besides special collector and fair/convention exclusives to be released.
Here are the core 7 with their names down their legs...
Cheerilee (formerly Cherry Blossom) - dark pink
Cheerilee loves stories and enjoys reading a new tale or sharing one with her friends. She has a great sense of humor and is always ready to share a laugh!
*used Cherry Blossom's modified symbol
Pinkie Pie - pink
Pinkie Pie is everyone's best friend! She's always dreaming up something fun to do that will keep everyone laughing and smiling all day long!
Rainbow Dash - blue
Rainbow Dash is the glamour girl of Ponyville! All her friends come to her for advice on fun fashions and ways to look their very best!
Scootaloo - orange
Scootaloo loves to play games. She's always on the go to meet and play outside with all her pony friends!
Starsong - purple pegasus
Starsong is a talented singer and dancer who shows off her skills best when she's on stage. Sometimes a bit shy off stage, she loves to be in the spotlight putting on shows for her friends!
*used Silver Glow's Symbol
Sweetie Belle - white unicorn
Sweetie Belle is a young playful unicorn who is sweet and kind to everyone. She always wants to play or meet her friends for a snack at the Sweet Shoppe!
*used Rarity's symbol
Toola-Roola (name re-used from different pony)- pale pink
Toola-Roola loves to decorate and have fun with arts and crafts. She is always thinking about creating her next masterpiece to share with all her friends!
