This is my first attempt at digital art. I hand drew an image, then scanned it into the computer. From there I used some of the Photoshop tutorial and learned all about the pen tool. :091:

I'm not entirely amazed but I've very pleased. I worked on this extra large though, so I think some of the details were lost. Also somewhere in the saving process I got that nasty white background. I'll have to fix that.

So, what do you think? How did I do? Also any help with shading in photoshop would be appreciated. I edited gradiants to get the shading I do have.

Very good. Nice smooth lines and nice shape.

It has been a long time since I attempted to make digital art. The shading is the part that always gets me. I am not a great artist and my husband is and tries to show me how to shade and make dimension.

Keep showing more when you make it.

Very good for a first time! Do you know how to use layers in Photoshop? It's not too hard. What I normally do for shading is start a new layer and title it "Body Shade" (say I'm shading the pony's body) and then I use the eyedropper tool to select the color, make it a tad bit darker, change the layer properties to Multiply and then I select the body with the magic wand tool, move to the shade layer, take the brush hardness down to 0% and just paint on the shade. Another way you could do it is to use the burn and dodge tools, but you don't want to overdo it using them or the drawing could end up looking really over-shaded and that's not a good thing.

I think she's great! You did a great job!

You've earned a treat! ----------> :candycane3:

Thanks for the tip on shading Fizzy. I have been looking and some prefer that burn and dodge tool. Not sure what that does....yet I may have to give that a try once I rest my eyes. Originally that was about uhmm 8x10 before I scaled down. :)
Yep, I did use several layers in photoshop. I seperated it fairly well into layers I think.. but if I was to use the burn/dodge tool to do shading I would have a problem. I didn't seperate the colors of the hair etc..

I should get photoshop too and great job Gypsydancer. That's a very beautiful art, maybe if you ahve time you can turn it in to an adoptable for everyone.

Thanks everyone. Chun-Li, right now I am just starting out. Perhaps later on I will get into adoptables, but right now I just want to work on my skills.

Fizzypop, I tried following your instructions above but am having a hard time. I sent you a pm, I'm hoping you can help answer a few questions.
