I've done all my customs thus far by hand-painting them in acrylics. However, I have seen some gorgeous results from airbrushing, like a pony with a red front body that shifted very subtly to gold in the hips and back legs.

So!

1. How much are airbrushes?
2. Do they vary in quality? If so, any recommendations?
3. Are there any tutorials available regarding the airbrushing of ponies?

I'm curious about this, and if anyone out there thinks they're worth the investment.

Hey, I'll ask my bf about this when he gets home from work. He's an airbrush artist, and does wonderful work with it. The only thing I could tell you know, is that it is very difficult and very expensive (atleast in Europe) ;)

airbrush

..never tried anything but pullin a trigger and makin little splotches. I'd be afraid to try it on a pony. BUT--somoene a while back did some "real" colored ponies and listed them on Ebay. I forget who made them..but I want to say the artist's name had something to do with wire?? They did like 3 ponies..Might have even entered them in a contest? This ring a bell with anyone?

I bought one of those cheap airbrush kits that use cans of propellant about a year ago. It cost about $26-28 I think, and replacement propellant cost about $8 a can. But I stopped using it after the first can because the airbrush part developed a leak and was wasting the propellant. The one can was enough to do about 3 ponies, but it might have done more if it wasn't leaking. It really did produce nice results, and I'd like to try again some time with a higher quality non-leaking airbrush!
