What genres are you interested in reading: fantasy, nonfiction, philosophy, poetry

What are some of your favorite books of all time:
This is so hard for me. I'll try to make a small-ish list.
The Last Herald Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lackey, The Plague by Albert Camus, All the Crooked Saints and The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater, Black Sun Rising and the Coldfire trilogy by C. S. Friedman, The Great Book of Amber by Roger Zelazny, All Men Are Mortal and Ethics of Ambiguity by Simone de Beauvoir, Remembering and Imagining by Edward Casey, The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevesky, Deathless and Comfort Me with Apples by Catherynne Valente, The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan, The Devil's Dictionary by Ambrose Bierce, A Man Called Ove by Frederik Backman, Get Well Soon by Jennifer Wright, Plenitude by Daniel Karasik, B by Sarah Kay, All Systems Red and the rest of the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells.

What length of books are you generally drawn to? (under 300, 300-499, over 500)
I can go for any, but I tend to the middle.

Are there any genres you don't enjoy?
I'm not a big fan of mystery.

Which of these things most appeal to you?
  • Character-driven
  • Strong character development
  • Learn about the human experience/behaviour
  • LGBTQ+ author and/or heavy cast os characters

I'm OK with anything except cases of racism, sexism, transphobia, and other sorts of bigotry that are either not denounced/challenged in the story [either implicitly or explicitly] or that match with the public viewpoint of the author.

Which of these "book moods" appeal to you? Which ones do NOT?
I'm down for any of those book moods! Here is my chart from Storygraph though:

1687384634915.png

Are you interested in moving outside of your comfort zone with books (partners will NEVER send anything mentioned on the trigger question), or would you prefer to stay with your usual?

I love reading, and I am genuinely excited to try whatever you think is awesome, with the one exception already mentioned above (don't send me Orson Scott Card, JK Rowling, and others of that type)

Anything else you want your partner(s) to know? Books are my coping mechanism. I really enjoy them. The more I have to think about the human condition, the better. Light and fluffy is also appreciated.

----------------
Here is the link to my goodreads. I use storygraph more now, but I will admit that goodreads is easier to use when trying to determine if a person has read something, so I am sharing that: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/6970064-lys

What genres are you interested in reading: fiction, mystery, easy fantasy (no Game of Thrones here LOL), any period fiction with strong heroines, holiday themed stories, interested in classics and banned books

What are some of your favorite books of all time: The Fannie Farmer Cookbook LOL, honestly this is tough, I feel like I'm all over the place and many of my favorite books of all times are considered young-adult, like anything from Roald Dahl, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury, Harry Potter series but more recently I've read and enjoyed anything from Leila Meacham, The Queen of the Big Time by Adriana Trigiani, Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series, The Kitchen House and Glory over Everything by Kathleen Grissom, The Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson, the last book I read was All the Forgivenesses by Elizabeth Hardinger (so good) but now I'm currently reading a **** Van **** biography LOL so yeah, little bit of everything.

What length of books are you generally drawn to? anything at all

Are there any genres you don't enjoy? not really heavy sci-fi/fantasy, scary, romance, I don't read much non-fiction typically

Which of these things most appeal to you?
  • Plot twists
  • Character-driven
  • Strong character development
  • Loveable characters
  • High-quality writing
  • Woman-author and/or women-heavy cast of characters
  • Diverse characters
  • Happily Ever After
I'm gonna add in, I think most of the stories I've enjoyed seem to be strong female characters overcoming challenges. Typically coming from being set in times of hardship, slavery, Jewish in WWII, Great Depression or poverty, times of suffrage and inequality for women. I do prefer a happy ending or I guess as happy as you can get given some of those topics. I like light and fluffy too though, I can only take but so much intense stuff, I break it up with a fun, easy read. Also like a good ol' mystery, who dun'it!

Which of these, if any, turn you off of a book?
  • Predictable plot
  • Flat characters
  • Poor writing
  • Dense writing
  • Gory horror/ v-olence (I enjoy a murder mystery and am not squeamish but not "scary" horror)
  • Confusing/ambiguous ending
  • Sad ending
What type of content do you NEVER want to read about? (triggers, or just dislikes): I'm open to most anything, though I don't care for really disturbing/graphic abuse or killing of animals for malicious reasons (I'll read a good murder mystery where a person dies but I don't wanna read about someone hurting someone else's pet! LOL)

Which of these "book moods" appeal to you? Which ones do NOT?
  • adventurous
  • emotional
  • funny
  • hopeful
  • inspiring
  • lighthearted
  • mysterious
Do you have a list of owned books that you would like to share? No, I have not made a list

Do you have a list of books you want to own that you would like to share? Does this count LOL I've been intrigued to read the All Creatures Great and Small books by James Herriot, His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, Shady Hollow series by Juneau Black, Mordecai Tremaine mystery series by Francis Duncan, The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill and The House of Eve and And Then There was Me by Sadeqa Johnson

Are you interested in moving outside of your comfort zone with books (partners will NEVER send anything mentioned on the trigger question), or would you prefer to stay with your usual? I'm open to trying new things :)

Anything else you want your partner(s) to know? I am that sad episode of the Twilight Zone, Time Enough at Last  I do strive to make more time to read. I always had my nose in a book growing up but adulting gets in the way and now I don't get through them as quickly as I used to so I tend to stay away from anything with too many characters or plots to keep up with since I may read it in spurts with a few days gap inbetween, I like something I can easily pick up where I left off if that makes sense. Honestly though, I happy to try anything out :)

What genres are you interested in reading: contemporary romance, romantic comedy, cozy mysteries, historical fiction (especially stories happening during WWI or WWII), fantasy, romance manga and graphic novels, classic and contemporary Japanese literature (these are my comfort zones, but I'd be very happy to read outside them as well! I look forward to opportunities to explore other genres)

What are some of your favorite books of all time: The Sight (David Clement-Davies), Inuyasha (Rumiko Takahashi), The Travelling Cat Chronicles (Hiro Arikawa), Orange (Ichigo Takano), Malibu Rising (Taylor Jenkins Reid), The Love Hypothesis (Ali Hazelwood), Blue Flag (Kaito), The Dead Romantics (Ashley Poston), Station Eleven (Emily St. John Mandel), the list goes on!

What length of books are you generally drawn to? (under 300, 300-499, over 500)
Generally mid-length around 300-350 pages

Are there any genres you don't enjoy?
I am not a fan of sci-fi that includes cyborgs/robots, dystopian governments, virtual reality or things pertaining to that. However, if there is a good sci-fi title that you think is good for someone first being introduced to sci-fi then I am willing to try it. I'm also not a fan of dark horror, although I do enjoy campy horror (for example, I enjoyed the Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix).

-Although I have definitely read books where a parent or a loved one dies from cancer, I'd really prefer not to read something that has too much detail of someone suffering from cancer or other terminal illness.

Which of these "book moods" appeal to you? Which ones do NOT?

Appeal to me:
  • adventurous
  • funny
  • hopeful
  • informative
  • inspiring
  • lighthearted
  • mysterious
  • reflective
  • relaxing
Do not appeal to me as much:
  • challenging

Are you interested in moving outside of your comfort zone with books (partners will NEVER send anything mentioned on the trigger question), or would you prefer to stay with your usual?

-Yes, I'd love to learn about genres outside of my comfort zones! If it is a book you love and want to share, I'd love to hear about it even if it isn't what I normally read.

Anything else you want your partner(s) to know?

-I'm a librarian so I have a pretty good awareness of popular and best selling titles and authors. But that definitely doesn't mean I have read them all! (I've haven't yet read a Colleen Hoover book yet actually, believe it or not). I'd really be interested in hearing if you have some lesser-known titles or authors that you think deserve more recognition. That being said, I certainly don't mind if it is a book by a best-selling author or is well-known! Like I said, I can't read all the best sellers. So, if there is one you have really enjoyed and it happens to be a best-seller, I still want to know about it!

This is for my hard copy partner. I am filling it out for my kiddo, since hard copy books work better for reading together at night.

- Tiger Wild - Gwen Millward
- The Good for Nothing Button - Charise Harper
- Vamperina Ballerina - Anne Marie Pace

What length of books are you generally drawn to? Short-ish. We've done some longer books like Hitchhiker's Guide and Shakespeare's Sonnets, but they aren't favs (yet).

Are there any genres you don't enjoy? Nah

Which of these things most appeal to you?

  • Fun pictures
  • Robots
  • Animals

Anything else you want your partner(s) to know?

Nixie loves to read. We read 4-6 books a day. They are a fantastic kid. Picture books and board books welcome, but picture tends to be more appreciated.
If the words on the page have things different colors or sizes or anything, that's cool :)

Hope this isn’t too vague and might edit it a bit before the due date but >

Probably under 500 for now

Are there any genres you don't enjoy?

Really heavy fantasy can sometimes be a little hard for me, especially if it’s a lot of different concepts and names to keep up with! Same with sci-fi

I left in what appeals to me! For a little more detail, I typically don’t mind corny stories honestly - I find them pretty heartwarming. Even though I like the good romance corny novel, I also LOVE stories with really sad and leave me empty (catharsis!!) so I can go Ethier way.

Do you have a list of owned books that you would like to share? (Links to Goodreads or Storygraph are permitted in this case)

I don’t have a huge list but I will say I already own Madeline millers book Circe and it’s on my to-be-read list right now, so whatever book you grab don’t make it that one!

Do you have a list of books you want to own that you would like to share? (Links to Goodreads or Storygraph are permitted in this case)

Not really - I’m using this as a chance to get a book I hadn’t really thought of before!

Are you interested in moving outside of your comfort zone with books (partners will NEVER send anything mentioned on the trigger question), or would you prefer to stay with your usual?

I have recently gotten back into reading after taking a break for a couple years, so I’m using this as an opportunity to get some cool books! There’s a couple things I just generally don’t like - but otherwise I’m open to seeing new stories!

Anything else you want your partner(s) to know?

I’ll just give a little info on specifics of what I usually like!

I really like graphic novels and manga, but am not really a fan of super hero stuff.

I LOVE a good historical drama too, period pieces are really interesting to me.

I love books with animal main characters!

The big thing that I would steer away from are heavy fantasy/sci-fi. Basically if I have to learn a whole new vocabulary to read it it’s hard for me to get through. I can do like fantasy, but I would rather it still take place in the real world with fantasy elements if that makes any sense?

Ok, I have been having trouble with this cos my brain has been like soup, but here we go!

Are youinterested in moving outside of your comfort zone with books(partners will NEVER send anything mentioned on the triggerquestion), or would you prefer to stay with your usual?

I would love to receivea book that my partner would recommend. Maybe their favourite bookthat they think more people should know about :D

Anything else youwant your partner(s) to know?

I wanted to be a children's book illustrator as a child, so I would be happy to receive illustrated fairy stories or things like that as well. I also have a small collection of funny kids books (such as I Want My Hat Back). Anything fantasy or anything funny about bears or rabbits would be cool lol.
I have also been meaning to collect old Peanuts books, but haven't gotten round to it :O

I am currently in a non fiction binge, I guess I want to learn about new stuff. Though,if you think you have a fiction book that can break the streak...challenge accepted! lol

What genres are you interested in reading:

I love non-fiction (especially history and true crime)! I'm also interested in non-fiction about animals (both wild and domestic). My specific interests in non-fiction are medieval European history, women's history, and medical history. I also like fashion/clothing history, analysis/explanation of daily life in certain historical periods and food/cuisine history. I'm big into biographies as well, including analysis or contexualization of famous people's work (such as JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, or Jane Austen). As for true crime, I'm kind of a serial killer junkie.

What are some of your favorite books of all time:

Mindhunter
Helter Skelter
Salt, Sugar, Fat
Anything by Bill Bryson
Gulp by Mary Roach
Jane Eyre
Watership Down
Frankenstein
Wuthering Heights
Northanger Abbey
The Lord of the Rings trilogy

What length of books are you generally drawn to? (under 300, 300-499, over 500)

I like long books (500+) but am open to books of all lengths.

Are there any genres you don't enjoy?

Pure romance (as in the entire plot is romance), historical fiction, westerns, cozy mysteries

Which of these things most appeal to you?

I would very much not like to read about animal abuse.

Are you interested in moving outside of your comfort zone with books (partners will NEVER send anything mentioned on the trigger question), or would you prefer to stay with your usual?

I'm open to moving outside of my comfort zone!

What genres are you interested in reading:
Any and all Fantasy even set in real time periods, Romance set in any period of time, Mystery, Murder Mystery, Medical Mystery, Ghost Stories, etc

What are some of your favorite books of all time:
<3 The Silmarillion <3 , Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, All of of Tolkiens LOTR related works, <3 My Grans True ghost story books she left me <3, The Song of Achilles, The Cruel Prince (im weak for YA dont judge me ), Unicorns of Balinor (i read them growing up and they have always had a special place in my heart). The Narnia books, especially the first.

What length of books are you generally drawn to?
Length doesnt really matter as long as it carries my attention.

Are there any genres you don't enjoy?

I dont like Biographies or books about real peoples lives. They depress me i think? They tend to be sad and I would rather be in fiction. While I do like medical mysteries I draw a line at anything involving epidemics/pandemics now for obvious reasons lol. I in general dont like overly depressing books that are going to make me feel bad instead of good in the long run. Even the books i love that do make me sad at least still make me happy to read. If something is so depressing I cant even feel good reading it then i dont wanna. I respect that its important I just dont wanna be genuinely real world sad haha. I also do not like anything about apocalypses. Dystopian is fine, just not full apocalypse.

Which of these things most appeal to you?
  • Strong world-building/other-worldly
  • Plot twists
  • Character-driven
  • Plot heavy
  • Strong character development
  • Loveable characters
  • High-quality writing

  • LGBTQ+ "" ""
  • Diverse characters
  • Happily Ever After
  • Happy for Now (somewhat)

Which of these, if any, turn you off of a book?

  • Flat Characters
  • Extremely Poor Writing (i can take most writing im not picky, but something extra poor maybe would bring me out of it?haha)
  • Dense writing
  • Shock ending
  • Sad ending

What type of content do you NEVER want to read about? (triggers, or just dislikes) *if it is of a non G-rated topic, or something you don't wish to publicly share please message Gingerbread/Darklys directly*

I dont wannna read about current real world problems. Hate Crimes. Apocalypses. Zombies. Pandemics. Heavyyyy heavy Grief with no relief.

Im fine with all of this, the only thing I would say is, I dont mind sad moments or even soul crushing moments, as long as theres a way out from it in the story. It cant be ALLL sad with not even some happiness to be found later on. Basically, I love all the thingssss even sad, so long as thats not all thats there.

Are you interested in moving outside of your comfort zone with books (partners will NEVER send anything mentioned on the trigger question), or would you prefer to stay with your usual?

Im open minded! :D

Anything else you want your partner(s) to know?
I was cut off from reading for a ton of years in college and I would really love to dive into more books! I would especially love fantasty romances if you know of any :3 Especially LGBTQIA+ fantasy romance <3
