:lolpony:Hello! I do a wide variety of art so this post is partially a commissions post and also compiling some of my 3D work.

I do a wide variety of character art including anthros, chibis, duping all the generations, etc!
You might know that I'm obsessed with the takara ponies and they influence a lot of my recent art, but I started
by drawing G1 ponies over ten years ago (before even g4 came out) so my art style has a lot of variation.
If you're interested in a drawing, feel free to message me and we'll go from there!
Commissions are OPEN as of 12 - April - 2024.

I've been doing a lot of 3D modeling recently (more posted below) and now that I have some experience
with ponies, I've considered offering 3D model commissions. Theses could be for 3D printing or just
visual art like the images above.
Let me know if anyone would be interested in commissioning a 3D model. I already have some 3D armatures
of G1 style ponies (see below), so customizing those would be relatively straightforward.

Due to a recent thread posted on MLPTP I ended up trying to replicate some of the Petite Pony sculpts
from scratch, but ended up branching into a variety of sculpts. New ones are now posted to itch.io.
The above includes the Petite pony Pegasus pose, a Mimic pose petite pony, and then two non-pony-ponies:
Cutesaurus and Creamsicle, the My Little Pony and friends.
The first two ponies are completely free, the non-pony-ponies are $5. They are untested for 3D printing but
you can also download/buy if you would like to edit the files in any way you like! The files all include
a version with a hook instead of a stand like the the Mommy Charms ponies.

I apologize these aren't ponies but im kind of obsessed with making dinosaur friends for Cutesaurus.
Also making the Takara MLP Twin Baby Animal Friends set is on my list. I'd also like to make
a Takara like that quadraped Fakie that I referenced above in 3D.
Heck, I want to make the Big Brother ponies... and flutter ponies... and G2 ponies...
One of these days, after I have made as many replica ponies as I desire, I will craft
my own line of fakies, and then the world will be mine... allllll mine.

:QB:I mean, thanks for reading! <3 :sundance:

I am interested in 3d model commission to make my art style into printed models. Plus, can they be rigged for animation in blender?
Do you have a price range in mind? For something like these/ a bit less detailed than these: (Absolutely not asking for this level of hair details.)

Oooh I would be interested in doing that!

Full disclosure it's not a type of commission I've done before, so I am not sure how to price it. I would be able to modify existing armatures, but retopology and making a clean armature would be extra time and such (assuming you want to be able to animate it yourself, I'd be making the mesh a lot neater so it moves properly, versus if you just want a static statue I wouldn't be worried about the mesh). So maybe in the $50-75 range? But I think I'd want to clarify exactly what you want.

I'm not sure what your level of knowledge is so sorry if this is all a retread, but hopefully it will be helpful to others too:

First off, I have a base with an armature for making my ponies. This is super minimal detail, I add a lot when I'm making the poses, including the eyes, nose holes, refining the mouth, and smoothing and cleaning up all the joints. I'd probably start off with something like this, although I'd probably just make it from scratch based off your sketches so I don't have to go about editing the existing one too much.

However, this isn't really made for animating. Below, you can see how even when it moves with the armature, it looks wonky.

So while you /could/ animate something like this it would look off at the joints. Also I made this armature pretty lazily so it doesn't do much except move the legs and neck, the ears get kind of funky when they're moved.

Here's an example of a sculpt I did of an Animal Crossing character and I had animated (she also had a shirt, I hid it for this picture so you could see the vertices better); but it's a lot neater and so it's easier to animate. Making this clean version takes a lot longer than making the base sculpture. Less vertices also means less lag for animation and rendering purposes.

If I printed out the model with the vertices on the left, the print would look something like the one on the right, because the smoothness is actually coming from a series of settings within Blender, if that makes sense. The computer just showing me a smooth figure, but in fact it is made out of flat, large faces.

For models like Cutesaurus, who I want to print, they have way more vertices because that is equivalent to more detail on a 3D printer. So I start with a model similar to the pony at top (plus hair, and a bow), then I remesh the model and refine it to add details. This way, it's all one piece.

But, it's not advisable to animate this kind of model because 1. the result would look really wonky and 2. it would probably explode your computer.

That's not to say it's completely out of the question to make a 3D model that can be animated, posed, and printed by you; it's just that you would probably need to do some additional editing after posing the model in order to get the best print quality. (And I'm not an expert in print quality, I'm just going off of what I've been told)

Thank you so much for these detailed response. I am just beginning to use blender and getting used to the functions.

I see, I should decide if I want a printed figurine or a model for animation, but what you are already experienced with is visual display model.

So let's focus on Printing model first. This price range is acceptable for me.

So, if I want a printed a model from my 2d Art; How many angles you would need if the pose is a bit complex? Is Top, side, front adequate? Since I will be drawing digitally, I can remove mane and tail for view too.

That summary sounds right, it sounds like a printing model would be best to start with.

I think top and both sides would be ideal, if the legs are in very different poses. At least one (ideally one from the back, one from the front) 3/4 on the head to get a better idea of the direction of the ears, how protruding the eye ridges are. Do you want a sculpted mane/tail?

And if you want them to be a unicorn/pegasus, details on how those parts would look of course; I can make those separately and combine them into 3 separate ponies of each type without any issue.

That sounds great. I will get in contact with the 3D print shop first to see the material options. I never try to do anything like this too.

I might start with the sheer reference for a generic earth pony first, just to see if it looks great painted. But it will be a long while until I have anything concrete.
