Mimic's Mimic!

Painted pony help!

I need advice about rehairing a painted pony. When I went to widen her hairline holes, I noticed that Mimic's paint was coming up, and if I'm not careful??? Her skin is gonna peel RIGHT off. D:

Should I seal her now? If so, should I do several layers, or would one do it? Any advice right now is much appreciated! Thanks!
 
Oh she's marvelous, simply marvelous!

Hmm... I use a spray sealer (recommended by Pika) called Testor's Dullcote. It's so easy to use, but I think I may have (in your case) done it before giving her the twinkle eyes... I'm not sure what it would do to them. If you do decide to use the spray sealer, I might cover up her twinkle eyes with some painter's tape first so the finish they have does not change.
 
Hey eyes aren't in permanently yet, thankfully! XD

I do have some acrylic sealer on hand from Plaid in gloss and matte......? Anybody ever use those before?

Wow you are doing a perfect job on her! Can't wait to see her with mane and tail:allecto:
 
how are you widdening the hair plugs? that has a big part in it. when i rerooted FBRs (which i seal) i have a push pin on hand to careflly stick in the paint covered holes to get te paint to move then when i stick the hair in there is less cracking and tearing. but unforturneately it will still happen especially in the closely put together holes-there's just so much wear to that spot that it'll come up. but usually it's not too noticeable.

i used to not seal my paint jobs and to tell you the truth, i've had less cracking that when i didn't but then again i didn't have cracking alot when i didn't seal. idk why...maybe i'm magical :lol:

but there is no real way to *stop* thye cracking but you can make it less noticible and if it gets so bad you can alwasy touch the paint back up when you're done.

she's looking great though! looks like the genuine article to me! course i don't much carew for mimic so what do i really know XD;;; ii'm a glory girl after all :D

I had no idea that some of you that customize stencil the symbol. I just never thought about it and figured you guys all just painted them by hand. That is a great idea. Very funny and entertaining to read. Love your threads. :allecto:

I'm sure a lot of people freehand theirs-- some symbols are really intricate afterall!

But simple ones like Bowtie and Mimic are just easier to stencil. And since I wanted to 'mimic' her perfectly, it was also just the best method. c: I plan to try freehand one day soon, but for now, a stencil is fine.

LOL, Graphic Design school came in handy for something afterall! :D
 
Pushpin! :) I use the pushpin/loop wire method like Lady Minty. Though I'm seriously thinking about a doll needle now. I'm just not sure the ones the craft stores sell are the same people here are talking about. I should ask about that... >.>; I'm a very visual person, I like having visual aids to help me out too.

As for Mimic, I'm not fond of green. Least favorite color! But I don't mind her. She's actually kind of grown on me since I started this project. XD

I started her to practice customizing (she's my second one.) and to complete my TE collection. c: When I do get a real Mimic, I'll probably put this one up in the freebies section to somebody who wants a Mimic but can't afford her. (On the condition of course that when THAT person gets a Mimic they have to send her on to someone else.... but that's a hot potato game to play later.)

LOL I thought about maybe offering to make one for someone else when I'm done this one. Since I'll have the kinks worked out by then. But I think 2 would be my limit for it. x_x
 
She looks great, can't wait too see her done!
 
amazing work so far !! :) that is just too cool a copy idea (so appropriately named) and I can't wait to see how the mane and tail are gonna really complete that mimic
 
:wow1:This was way too cool!!! I hope we see pics when is completed with hair too ^_^, i am a BIG fun of TE ponies myself since my favourite pony is Galaxy, its not only the beautifull eyes that TE are so special for but also the amazing hair colours combination!!!! I hope you make custom ponies TE ^_^
