Hi all :)

I just wanted to start a little discussion regarding something that some members may find a little problematic if they aren't aware of it to begin with.

You'll notice that there are hundreds upon hundreds of auctions on Ebay like this one, which offer a certain number of ponies, but do not provide a photo specifying what you will receive, as the lot is random:

I purchased 2 of this very auction, and this is what I received:

Personally? I love the element of surprise, and I was ready for just about anything. I'm particularly delighted by the G1 Dollymix Sundance that somehow found her way in there. :)

We must be aware, however, that to the untrained eye, it can be very difficult to distinguish authentic MLP products from knock-offs or fakes. And so, it is entirely possible to receive a mix in a random lot like this one. Especially when buying sight-unseen from overseas, just be prepared that you might receive a real mix of things, though experience will vary from person to person and seller to seller. ;)

is this going on with other kinds of lots too? because I had my eye on a set of 8 megaman x figures from china

I'm not familiar with Megaman, but I would imagine that any lot listed (especially for toys) without photos of the specific items you will receive (ie, random items), could possibly end up containing fake merchandise. It's not a certainty, just something to be aware of.

ok thanks Jewel :)

I know most of the ponies in these random lots are probably going to be fake but that's what I love about it. They make such bright ponies with weird cutie marks. Naming them makes me feel so special because I know I might have a one of a kind fakie :lolpony:

Wasn't there a thread awhile back where someone won a similar auction and received 10 of the same G4 blind bag? I can't recall which member that happened to, but that's also something a person needs to be aware is possible in an auction like this.

Yes, this phenomenon is certainly nothing new, but I thought it might benefit our newer members who may not be aware, that's all :)

Eek, I'm so sorry Jewel, I didn't mean my post to sound that way at all. I was just mentioning the incident so newer members knew that was a possibility.

Oh no no, no reason to apologize! I was typing a bit quickly last night and I think I may have come across a little terse, my bad.

:ponylove:

Thank you for letting us know Jewel, you are such an awesome collector to friend to have around!! ** hugs**

Another thing to know, you may get Ponyville minis in your lot as well, and they may not have hair. I had a friend who recently bought a lot of the blind bags and when she received her package, 6 were Ponyville Boutique Ponies, and none of them had their hair (I call these cancer ponies)! Every one of them was Telly Savalas bald.

And I couldn't help her, it's only thanks to Jewel that my last cancer Pony got her wig! LOL!

Neat! Thanks for posting and for going out on a limb to buy one of these lots. I've always been curious what would show up.

I went to China in May/June of this year and made my way to the Toy market in Gangzhou. There weren't a lot of 'stores' selling toys, but those that were, were selling bags of toys. The toys were anywhere from Real and super cute bags of Hello Kitty Toys to terribly painted Frozen Figures. They were about $25 US a bag.

THAT IS SO EXPENSIVE!

Unless the bags are really, REALLY big

That's so fascinating, Sky Rocket! I had a friend visiting family in the Jiangsu (I hope that spelled right) province and she said they sold toys (she believed to be knock offs or factory seconds) in bins, and you filled a bag and bought them by weight. She brought me home some Cyborg 009 toys she picked out for me, and the quality was surprisingly good!

I bet China is a really interesting place to explore.

I actually did the same with some left-over pony budget, just to see what I would get - I got 9 of the fakies! I dare say I won't be buying again - lst time went so well, too!

I guess the quality was less than you hoped for, eh? There are some awfully poor fakies out there...

Honestly? I love collecting knock off fakies. Especially if they're poor quality.
I just like to laugh at them.

I might try to buy a couple of those lots! Maybe I can post what I receive and we can all make fun of 'em. :p
