How to remove the head?

Hi! This has been a problem for me for quite some time. I hate tail rust and when ever I see any slightest bit of it, I just want to pop the head off and take away the washer.

But the problem is removing the head without damaging the pony. I did mistakenly cut off the bit that's inside the pony's neck on one of my Peachys. All the tutorials just say "rinse the head with warm water and it will pop right off". No it won't!! Or I happen to have to have ponies with extra strong glue. The glue goes all the way in her neck, so even with a exacto knife it's really difficult to just cut the glue (when you can't even see the glue).

Please any advice on this? I hate dirrrrty ponies!

i always use a kitchen knife :p sounds cruel, but some ponies just wont let their heads get off. if that doesn't work i don't know

I have an exacto knife that came with extra blades, so I use one that's just a rectangle. It's a lot easier to control how deeply you cut because you can push it into the head instead of slicing blindly along the neck seam. Half the time you just need a tiny cut all the way around and then you can manage to pull/stretch/twist the head the rest of the way.

This works best on G1s though (no casualties since I started removing heads this way) but I have yet to find a fool proof method for G3s -curses them- I always seem to completely sever the diva poses =/

I tend to use a combo of water and knife. It really helps if the water is hot. I mean like almost as hot as you can stand. I hold the pony's head under water for a minute or so (it softens the glue and makes it sort of stretchy) and then rock the head around and twist it a little until I see the glue making little strings when I pull the head from the body. Then I hold the body and head as far apart as I can and use the knife to cut the stringy glue, which makes it easier to pull them a little further apart, etc.

for G1s these days, if their head is glued on, i let my sink water run hot for a few minutes (it gets REALLY hot quickly) then i carefully stick the pony under the spray and let it be there for a minute of two and usually the head'll come right off after a bit of twisting.

For G3s i don't bother with that. If it's glued on, it gets decpiated via my exacto utility knife. i've yet to cut myself wit that one, plus it's hadle allows easy ontrol and limited depth insertion.

and as an added bonus, i found that if you put a McPony in the oven for 10 minutes, or the microwave for 30 seconds, the head'll twist right off (with a bit of work sometimes)

hope that helps

Thanks for all your answers! :) I will try the HOT water, perhaps my water hasn't been hot enough in my earlier trials. Hope it helps :)
