How do you organize your collection???

I just got these two HUGE bookshelves at a public auction and moved them in - finally my ponies have a permanent home and can be displayed ALL AT ONCE!!!! I'm *very* excited.....

I'm also pretty anal about things, and now I'm trying to decide how to get them up there and looking good. The only other collection I've ever seen in real life was WAY bigger than mine, and was organized exactly like the G1 checklist on Dream Valley. If she was missing one (which wasn't too often) she left a space for it. Row after row... *drool*

But I don't have near that many and I'd leave a LOT of spaces to be filled. But I need SOME kind of order... any ideas? Pics? What do YOU do to keep them all straight?

I have mine like Delc's, sort of. I have my plushes on the top shelf, followed by some random ones (2 BBrothers, a custom, a princess, Kiss Curl)
and then some of my favorites (collectors poses, Twinkle eyes, a few extra minty ones
THEN my boys, and more favorites and HTFs
shelf after that are some of the more common ones; Majesty, Tootsie, and then my Sundae Best, SHS and other childhood ponies. But all my extra special ones dont fit on the shelf and are in my room scattered about, and my G3's are on one of those old Beanie Beds all squished in there lol
So I guess mine is a bad example, but what I would recommend is just keeping sets together. If you only have 1 of a set, put all the singles on a shelf by them selves. And then put all your favorites at eye level :D

Well I have various ways of organizing mine. Here's a general pic of the main part of my room for an idea...

I sure wish I could spread them out more but for now they stay kinda squished on the shelves. My new finds hang out below my monitor on my computer desk (can't see it very well here) so I can enjoy them for awhile. The left side of the room has all my G1 stuff and the right side is all my G3's. And I usually have the G1's divided by kind of pony (merry-go-round, twinkle eyed, etc.) and also I keep all the mail order ones together and the playsets are on the same shelf as well. If you look closely you can kinda see how I do it. Good luck! :)

okay this is long, so you don't have to read it if you don't want to..

My collection isn't very "organized," but it has a little order to it. I have all the SHS together, all the UK exclusives together, the SS and TEs are together, then mostly the other ponies are seperated by features like that, like TAF and BnG. All the babies are randomly thrown together but kept in sets; does that make sense? The sets are together, but not in any particular order. I think it goes original babies, rainbow babies, mail orders, BBEs, NBBEs (Cuddles, Half Note and Tiddlywinks), peek-a-boos, glittery, ballerina, fancy pants and then valentine's twins. All of the UK babies are with the UK exclusives, and the newborns are all stuffed into my open Lulabye Nursery, in various things like Firefly's crib and Jabber/Jebber's sandbox.

I try to fit in playsets whereever I can.. and poses that I particularly like, like Bowtie's shy pose, I keep together on the front row of my top shelf. I think it goes Bowtie's pose, Moondancer's pose, Glory's pose, Firefly's pose. The back row is more misc. because I have mixed things, like my 3 rockin' beats, my one Sweetsteps ballerina, and Diamond Dreams.


My MIB G3s hang on my large birdcage, and the loose ones are all playing around in the celebration castle on top of it. My Petites, First Born, and various pieces of ponywear and accessories are bagged and hung on my wall. My pamphlets and MOC Ponywears are also there =)


I ran out of shelf space a while ago so I started mounting shoeboxes on my wall and MAKING more shelves.. and I have more sets randomly thrown together, like the babies. But overall it has a very impressive effect, and I've managed to get ponies on all four walls =D.

I don't organize my ponies. I don't have space, they are all in plastic bags in plastic containers underneath my bed. But if I could I would definitly go with the checklist organization... I'm a very organizing person =P

I try to organize them from the year and order that they came out. If that doesn't work then I just make them look pretty.
