how do you get screen shots from movies?

I got the new Magic Dance Shoes DVD and wanted to take some screen shots... I thought it would be as easy as playing the DVD on my computer and hitting print screen, but when I try to paste it into any of my photo programs, it does really odd things and only ends up saving with a black screen...

Anyone know how to do this?

i cant remember how to do it. its been a while. i know for me, i hit pause and then i hit whatever saves the pic and goes to an album where those images are stored. but you have to remember to save them to another file in order to view them else where on your computer.
