Hi! I am Sudsy, and I am new here.

I am very excited to have found this group! I just picked up the hobby of restoring and customizing ponies about a month ago. When I was a kid, I LOVED the 1986 movie, so the G1s have a very special place in my heart. I never owned any of the toys as a kid, but I am an artist, and about a month or so ago I ended up in a pony restore rabbit hole on YouTube. I realized I had almost all the materials to try it for myself, went on eBay and got a lot of old G1s, and jumped right in. So glad I did because I LOVE IT!

Here are the befores and afters of some of the ponies I have done so far and a custom G3 Rarity. You’ll have to forgive me while I figure out the best way to include photos in posts...

Thank you so much! Right now I am working on two customs: a Breath of the Wild Link pony, and an Arcane Jinx pony, and I am attempting to restore my first So Soft pony (Gusty). I can't wait to be able to show them off to some like-minded pony lovers

I am very glad to have found RetroGeek’s videos. If I hadn't, I probably wouldn't have picked up this new hobby xD

It is! I haven’t done any restoration on old ponys, but I have on old dolls and little toys and it’s so nice to see them all bright and shiny again

Thank you! In addition to a good cleaning (warm water + soap, acetone, oxiclean soak), I also treat my ponies with Salon 40 creme and UV exposure. Sometimes that takes a while (Baby Moondancer took 3 weeks), but it usually does the trick!

Thank you! No dye, just a layer of Salon 40 creme and 3 hours or so in the bright sun . I like to try to restore my G1s to as like-new condition as I can get them and customize G3s. I don’t have a good reason lol. I guess I would like to get to the point where people with these old 40 yo ponies see my work and ask me to restore them. Not necessarily collectors, but people who have them from childhood and played with them and loved them and would like to have them back to the way they were.
