Happy tails with rusty mechanisms?

I have a nice happy tail pony that kind of works, but I looked inside and her mechanism and tail washer are rather rusty. Is there a way to remove the mechanism, clean it up, and replace it? Or does anyone know how it's anchored in there?

By the way - I don't know much about the Happy Tails at all. XD;

they're just slid in there. You can pull them out but be careful of the tail so it doesn't rip the tail hole.

I've fixed a few happy tail ponies before =)
