Okay, so I bought this wooden rocking horse w/ the intention of painting it as a MLP. Well, I got it home and got to looking at it - the shape was horrid! I mean, this rocking horse was so boxy and shapeless that even if I did paint it as a Pony, it would still look awful. Her legs were straight, as was her belly. Her ears weren't there - the mane and forehead ran straight into them. The back had no dip, and the butt was huge. Plus there was no curve to the edges - it was just 90 degree angles all around.

So I took it upon myself to do some minor adjustments - at least w/ the mane. I wanted to shave it down to where it had a neck and ears and a distinguishable back, so that I could add some yarn for the mane. I had no clue what I was getting myself in to! I searched for something suitable to use to carve w/, since I didn't have any whittling tools (or experience, being as I'd never done ANY before), but wouldn't hurt if I ruined it. I found an old steak knife (don't laugh!). It wasn't my ideal whittling tool, but it did the job alright, even if I did have to take quadruple the time, I'm sure, lol.

Well, I got to carving and I just couldn't stop! I whittled the lass some ears, gave her a muzzle that wasn't square and some eyes (she had none, lol). I gave her some legs that weren't sticks, and rounded her rear as well as dipped her back. She now has a round belly, too! And her rockers rock properly (they were extremely uneven). I also carved a rut down the top of her neck for a mane. After this, I sanded her down, but left her a bit choppy for the 'carved' look. ^-^ Finally, I made the edges curved all around. Then came the painting - the easy part. :) Well, sort of. Took me some time to do that symbol! And her eye is too big, but I didn't want to re-do it, lol.

Finally, I took some yarn and made her a tail (just double-lengthed some pink and tied it in the middle w/ a purple piece of yarn for a bow) and got-glued it on her. I then too some yarn double-lengthed for the mane and laid them out side-by-side and hot-glued a piece of yarn across the lot of them. Once that dried, I folded it, put some hot-glue on the outside of the fold, and stuffed it in the rut down the length of her neck. This way, it looks like the hair's coming out of her neck, as it would a Pony. :) I think it turned out very nice.

All-in-all, I'm extremely pleased w/ her! I put a lot of hours and hand cramps into her, and I think it was worth it. :) Please lmk what you think!

I'll get some pics taken later w/ the real Sweet Song. What do you think?

She looks great! I would love a rocking horse like that someday when I have kids- you did an incredible job!

Wow, she looks great! Do you have any before pics? I'd love to see what she used to look like. Amazing job, anyway!

Blah - I wish I did, lol. She's not life-size, or ride-on size, btw - just a small one. :) Although I do have a ride-on size one that I plan to customize into a Pony someday. :)
