So I'm getting into G3...and I want the ponies that are represented in the books, annuals, etc. Here is what I see as the core

Pinkie Pie
Rainbow Dash
Minty
Wisteria
Sunny Daze
Sparkleworks
Sew and Sew
Rarity
Starcatcher (wish the toy had a heart on her head, a little more non-denominational)
Skywishes

and then just before G3.5
Cheerilee
Sweetie Bell
Toola Roola
Scootaloo
Starsong

Maybe-like I don't know if they had big enough appearances:
Kimono
Thistle Whistle
Island Delight

Is this the "G3 family?" Am I missing anyone important?

There was a core 7 in the later years of G3 who was
•Rainbow Dash
•Pinkie Pie
•Toola Roola
•Cheerilee
•Scootaloo
•Sweetie Belle
•Starsong

I always believe Minty to have played a big part because I am sure she was Pinkie Pie’s best friend

Yeah, I included them in my second list (minus the ones fro the first)....

If you wanted more characters that appear in the media: Whistle Wishes, Lily Lightly, Brights Brightly, Star Flight, Heart Bright, Daffidazey, Puzzle Mint, Storybelle, etc. most of them only appear a few times though.

More ponies that appeared
Forsythia
Waterfire
Seaspray
Island Delight
Cloud Climber
Coconut Grove
Baby Honolulu

Cotton Candy and her café appeared in The Runaway Rainbow. I haven’t seen the cartoons in many years but I’m sure she might’ve also had some lines in other films as well?

oh my god....what was I asking....I bet there are like fifty....
I remember why I wasn't into G3's originally. Some kids I babysat had as many G3s in their house as kids had in the eighties. You could go to a thrift store and buy a bag of eleven G3s for about $5.00. They were so numerous, it was like an infestation. I think there were more G3s than any other generation (of course I could be wrong about that point-but there were a lot).
Now I am really glad that happened. Flooding the market brought back their popularity, and they are very close in design to G1s.

Also, I love G3 Cotton Candy.

Edit: Okay I made a list based on the core seven from the end, as well the "meet the ponies" from all the annuals, major media appearances, and some that were just drawn in prominent places over and over (like Silver Glow, or Moondancer who appears in a pamphlet).

This should work better (?) More like a core group that doesn't include ponies like Lilly Lightly, for instance, but still Rarity that appears in all unicorn stories. But since its G3 a short list will automatically disclude ponies with major appearances like Lilly, Puzzlemint, Daffidazy, etc. And I added the seven core from the end of the line. Sew 'n Sew replaced Sunny Daze in the crazy live action play, but I didn't include her.

Triple Treat and Sweetberry might be good additions as well? They both make a few of appearances in the early G3 content. Though I wouldn't consider them among the main cast.

The pony herself isn't featured at all but... There is a pony called Rainbowbery, the berry itself is mentioned a lot haha

I have rainbow berry… love those slh ponies.

okay, I got it! I saw that G3 had a "favorite friends" set released before the core seven. It was:
Pinkie, Minty, Rainbow Dash, Sunny Daze, Wysteria, Rarity, and Starcatcher. So those ponies plus whomever is left over from the core seven: Toola Roola, Cheerilee, Scootaloo, Sweetie Bell, Starsong, should be the "official" core G3.That's 12 ponies.

Sounds about right to me! I actually didn't know they'd released a set like that though, turns out I already have two of them. I'll have to look into getting the full set, as well!

Non denominational? I'm confused by that. Its just twin scrolls and a diamond.
