Technically this isn't a pony topic, but since a lot of collectors will most likely be attending the San Diego Comic Con this weekend in the hopes of getting the exclusive pony, this might be useful information for those about to make the trip.
For the first time ever, all tickets to the Comic Con are sold out for all days. If you don't already have your tickets, you won't be able to attend. We were going to drive the 2 hours to San Diego and buy tickets at the door, but that is no longer possible.

At least we found out BEFORE we drove two hours, looked for parking, and walked 10 blocks in the blazing heat.
It sold out Saturday last year, but that was around noon on Saturday, not the night before. We did see some people selling/giving away their one day passes late in the day, but I wouldn't rely on that as a way to get in.
