Alex Blue Bird and I been working on a Colouring book series since 2018. Sending her the cartoon characters that I designed as references for this massive project.
I use to use Adobe illustrator but it was a total pain. Once Affinity was on the Scene, I dove in, and endured much trial and error. I vector every art piece Alex sends to the Affinity program. I’m very picky I love my lines nice and crispy and having any error within is unacceptable.
Here you can see the full layout of the Colouring Book I just finished. Vector line work All done in Affinity. Even the cover too. I do like to tinker with procreate from time to time. So I took my crips lines from affinity and transferred to procreate. What bugs me about procreate is there a layer limit. The bigger the design the less layers you have to work with. Yet I’m in the mood for an adventure. And so you see my finished work. Now time to transfer procreated coloured character back to Affinity Design. When doing this I use PSD this way my layers are separate. Pet peeve it pixel the perfect character line-art. Quick fix ( take my Affinity Vectored line work and carefully match it to the pixel lines. Delete the pixel line combine all into one. Now I went from how dare you mess up my perfect vector lines procreate to Thank You to our Creator for the people who created Affinity Design.
This is what can be achieved when working with duo programs, Medibang, Affinity Design, and Procreate. The possibilities are endless.
Need to work out the bugs off the colouring book. Plus make sure the free colouring page download is added to the KoFi Shop. And yes any sales that occur from this project the profit will be split in half, Alex will get her fair share. So sales from this colouring book will be supporting two artist not one.
In our KoFi Shop we will have more cartoon designs available that will include a humble Angel Policy with each design. Buying the colouring book limits you to personal use, buying the individual design will come with Angel policy. perfect for small local business, for commercial use that will require your written proposal that will be reviewed by a lawyer. Even in those fields Alex will get half of everything. From colouring books sales, digital stamps, plus from commercial use too. Like I said two artist will be supported.
There will be section with exclusively cartoon character designs free for everyone to colour and enjoy but it’s Strictly for personal use only. Example if you colour the art and put it on a t-shirt to sell you’re breaking the ( Free Gift ) Rules. But if you colour the art in your style have it placed on a t-shirt and gift to a friend then you’re in the green light. Another example, download the free design, print them out on paper to sell. Forbidden. But download and print the free design and give them to children in a classroom to colour Perfect. We, the duo of artist, don’t earn a penny from these designs placed in the free gift and nor should anybody else.
