Do you think big fish shouldn't be allowed to be kept in private, home tanks? I remember seeing a very big one called an Arowana that didn't have much room to turn in its tank years ago and would constantly knock its head on the glass and I felt very sorry for it.I don't see the need for people to keep them, anymore then I do ginormous snakes, or sharks etc. Maybe if your an aquarium/zoo and your doing it to help the animals and have plenty of room and know how, but not for private ones. Does anyone else believe the same or am I just being ignorant?

A large fish should have a large tank. It's not fair to them to be confined like that. I'm sure there are psychological issues that come from being in such a small space. Just because they are fish doesn't mean they don't have some sort of feelings or mental process going on.

If the fish is given the proper sized tank and kept by someone who understands it's environmental and nutritional needs then I think it's fine. Unfortunately, many people want a big fish because it's cool, or shows off their wealth if rare and expensive. They don't care about te fish itself, just what having it gives them. Fish are living things too and that should be respected.

It makes me sad to see fish in tanks too small. I don't know what sort of higher brain function if any fish may have but regardless I think every creature deserves a nice quality of life. To just sit in a tank with no room to swim around or interesting stuff to play or hide in doesn't sound like much of a life.

I agree with Sta_Flare. Big animal needs big space and if it is more exotic the more knowledge to care from him is needed.

If you got the money for big fish then you should have money for big tank. And if the fish is to show off then I would definetly get big tank too. It would look even more massive and better (as show off point of view).

I agree if you are going to keep large fish then they tank should be correctly adjusted as they grow. I would prefer larger fish to be in a back yard pond or something more then in a home.

My sister does not have huge fish but her Angels have gotten rather large I think she bought 3 different size tanks for them over the years she had them. She treats them like her kids cleans the tank feeds them freshen there water gives them treats.

Her Husband joke she loves them more then him sometimes. She also been keeping angles sense she was in middle school.

I will just stick with beta's.

It's mean if the fish don't have room to move freely. I know fish are pretty dumb as far as it goes, but I am too and I sure wouldn't want to live in a closet.

I had two big Oscars once, they lived in a 55 gallon aquarium and did pretty good. They both were friendly, ate out of our hands and 'played' with Action hank. He would run back and forth in front of their tank and they would chase after him. When he'd duck down from their view they would get all agitated like. "Where's our kid?" They both lived several years past their life expectancy, so I think they were happy. I buried them in my little pet graveyard even though my sisters joked we should have eaten them!
