I think I'll be due for a new laptop soon. This one is literally falling apart that I have duct tape holding it together.. oops.

I am thinking maybe a Chromebook since I really only do internet anymore. I don't game or use any programs really. My current laptop is a tablet/laptop convertable, and I rarely use the tablet side so that isn't important. I got it with full intent to draw and that never happened, so I am sure a chromebook is the best way to go. My only must requirement is that it has to have the number keypad and a large enough screen.

I'll need to save up (some items will be up for sale soon to fund it), but in the mean time I want to research and get reviews.

Anyone got suggestions for good chromebooks or laptops that won't break the bank? Is Acer good?

Acer is great, I had my 17” Acer laptop for 9 years before he started having any problems (and still got 2 pretty good years out of him after that)

I’ll have to get him out and check what the bottom says but I’m not at home right now. Respond to this in like 3 hours to remind me :)

I remembered to come back :)
Ok so it here’s a pic of the system info, I think the important part is he’s an Acer Aspire but I’m not very technology-y so idk if you need more than that :)

I use an Asus and it's been very reliable for over 7 years. Mine's a ROG STRIX gaming laptop because I needed something higher power for graphics work and it's fantastic. Literally never had a single problem in over 7 years so as a brand I'd definitely recommend

I was disappointed in the Chromebook but it gets a few things done. It's basically a large tablet with apps. It's ok. It doesn't have a number pad though, just at the top.

Who needs new when you can get old stuff that works better!

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T410 and a HP Pavilion G6, the ThinkPad is more geared towards work and internet, while the G6 is bigger and is better for gaming which is mostly what I use it for. I'm currently using the ThinkPad for all my internet stuff and the G6 is what I use for the animation I'm trying to make that I really need to get back to working on.

Also nether of these have a numpad but they both have DVD drives and those things you can stick SD cards into.

Most laptops with numpads will start at 15" and up so that should help you narrow it down. I've enjoyed my Acer except for the crummy built in speakers. It is a higher end model but from what I can tell the lower end ones are pretty solid.

I'd steer away from the chrome books unless you plan to have it constantly connected to the internet. Tho it's been a few years since I checked them so maybe they've improved the offline programs. But I'm generally anti giving Google more info than they need on me regardless.

When I was looking I used Newegg to filter through the options and then bought mine at Best Buy with price matching Amazon.

CD/DVD drives are aggressively being phased out so you might be hard pressed to find one included. Amazon has external ones for around $20 tho. I was surprised my newer laptop didn't have an sd reader too so if that's something you use I would watch out for it.

You might also check local pc repair shops. They can have good deals on refurbished machines.

Thank you so much! I will research it more when I have a moment!
No problem! ^_^
Oh @Lilykin did mention the one thing that wasn’t my favorite about my Acer though, totally forgot to mention it, it only has one speaker where most laptops have 2 so it is kinda quiet (really only a problem if you wanna play a movie or something in the background while you move around the room). Idk if they’ve changed that in newer models

It really took me off guard the first time I played something! My old Toshiba had great speakers and it never occurred to me that a 12yr old laptop would have better speakers than a brand new one lol. Def need some external speakers or headphones.
