I was thinking... what do you think will happen in 20-20 years with G3 ponies. Do you think they'll still be collected like we collect G1s now? Will G3 ponies that are rare now will be super rare then? Will Pinkie Pie be the next Cotton Candy (which she already seems to be)?

Thoughts?

I think that while g1s will still be the most sought after, the g2 and g3 will still be loved.:rose3:

GREAT QUESTION!!!!
i have thought this many times especially when buying G3s and trading them for G1s...
i always wonder if i will regret not collecting the G3s

so far all i can think is that kids right now dont seem to be AS interested in MLPs like we were in the 80s
so i dont think there are as many potential collecters in the future, and therefore not as much demand, a TON of supply and then not as much value.

PLUS there is no G3 cartoon on tv which to me seems to boost kids interest a LOT
and increase the warm fuzzies and nostalgia that we get when we see ANYthing related to G1

but then i thought, there will always be us 80's kids who collect G3s as well.
BUT all of those like us are adults and have been buying them MIB for a while and can afford to do so as adults.

So basically anyone who would be super into G3s in 20 years will already have them MIB or MINT from collecting them now.

phew! that was a mouthful
but thats my logic thus far :)

IMO in 20 years I think G1s will be super rare highly prized clloector items. I do wonder if by then so many bait ponies will have been customised etc and the fact many places don't take 2nd hand toys anymore if the majority of G1s around will be from collectors own collections an as such in wonderful condition and in turn more valuable?

G2 & G3s I don't imagine will age as well as I don't think are made anywhere near as well. I also don't think people today have the same mentality about holding onto things? For example my Mum packed up all my old toys (thanks Mum!!!!) but today people seem much more inclined to throw things away or whatever. Maybe there will not be the supply of G3s in 20 years like we have access to with G1 today?

Personally I'm actually a bit over G3s :-( I had a good look at mine and decided I really don't feel that same passion for as do for G1. So I've listed quite a few of mine on Ebay. I'm only keeping Anchors Away, Twinkle Hope, Porto-Bella, Fingerpaints, Winter Minty, by Birthflower pony and a few other favs :D

Ah! Let's look into my crystal ball! There, I shall see it all! :witchcrystalball:

- G1 ponies are the Silkstone Barbie dolls of the My Little Pony line 20 years from now on. ;) Average price range: $35-100, depending on their condition and rarity. Prices of non-cancerous and non-discolored/-faded ponies will jump. Mail orders and rares will be even more valuable. Future Mimic prices: $250-350. Future Dibble Dabble prices: $350-500. Future 'Punzie (Rapunzel) prices: around $1000. Future rare internationals like Greek Ladybug... Are you ready? Try $2500. Lol.

- Euro-only G2s with undiscolored symbols and no stickiness (no 'melting') are something for wealthier collectors 20 years from now on ($50-250 price range), opposed to normal, more common G2s who are still not as sought after as the original G1s. ($5-15 price range).

- G3s are highly popular these days. They're considered very retro among all the holographic/ gadget toys of the future. They're the ponies everyone still remembers from their childhood. They have special charm because they are of the era we still produced plastic. They'll have the position G1 ponies had from the midnineties up until 2003-2005. They are still very common because of their popularity, but they are far more affordable than G1 ponies. Prizes of non-htf ponies: $7-15, depending on the condition and popularity of the pony. Rarer G3s will sell for much higher prices. Mail orders: $30-65. Rare store ponies such as Beachbelle and Caribbean Delight: $50-60 in near mint/ mint condition. Same goes for rare ponies such as TATAT II. They're the new Mimics. ;)

(Disclaimer: Twilight's crystal ball is not responsible for any irregularities of the future... In the future.)

Ok I'm gonna talk like an "old" person now..

I think the kids today have many more options with toys than we did back in the day (ok there's my old person quote). I honestly don't know what little girls have been collecting. My friends' kids have lots of ponies but they're played with. I don't picture kids keeping things mib (only their parents). The G1's hopefully will increase in value but of course people will make mistakes with the current re-releases of G1s (or will they be valuble as well?). I do think that rare g3s now will be sought after years from now (hopefully for you guys who are hanging on to them)

Forgot to add...If there's an ugly pony out there - buy it because she will in the end be very rare (because no one is buying her now).

Interesting Question!

That's a great question! I do know the '80's was the first decade where many lines of different toys were introduced for the first time (MLP, Masters of the Universe, Strawberry Shortcake, Care Bears, etc.). Us kids of the '80s were bombarded with ads on lots of cool toys, and had to have it all! Now I don't have kids, so I don't know how accurate this is, but from watching the kids I do know, they are so desensitized to all the different lines of toys out there that it's not as a novelty for them to collect the items in different lines. For MLPs, I don't think as many girls collect them in the sets in the way that we did as kids. I remember getting excited when the Twice As Fancy ponies and Twinkle Eye ponies came out, I don't hear little girls getting excited over a new line of ponies like I used to, I don't know. So, all that to say, I think some of us here are correct that our age group (generation Xer's) will still probably be the largest collecting group (we'll all be in our 50's & 60's and still talking ponies here, hee hee!). NOW, unless our current generation of kids get on Ebay and get that major nostalgic feeling if they stumble across that "first pony" or that "one pony" and have to have it, like many of us did, then they are trapped in MLP collecting forever! We may get a number of those :) Good question to ponder on!!! ;-) Makes me want to help little girls I care about now start a collection and take care of it to help continue the tradition! :)

Well, I'm an old person too, then, because I 100% agree with you on that! :)

Compared to Barbie Collecting

Someone here compared this to Barbie collecting -- that's probably accurate that we are a lot like the first people back in the 60's & 70's who started the Barbie collections and are still collecting strong. I think we'll be similar to that in 20 years.

i think if hasbro goes in to this new line, the kids won't go for it.So yep i think they'll try to get the old G3's. best get all mine first then Robyn won't have to get so many.
